I play the guitar and bass (controllers, no actual instruments) on lefty because it feels that much more "natural" to me. Think I should try the drums on lefty? My foot still hurts

Go with whatever is comfortable. When my fiancee plays the drums she plays righty but switches what foot she uses the bass with. Seems hard for me, but it works for her. I'm a lefty but I play guitar and drums righty because that's what feels right to me.

The Nyko guitar is decent. It is really thick and as such people with small hands might have trouble using it. I use the five finger approach and with that method, the only way I can play bass successfully is to put it on my lap and play it like a steel.

It's fairly accurate, though there seems to be more resistance in the buttons, making it harder at first to get the hammer-on notes. Once you acclimate to this, accuracy is quite impressive. The strum bar is a little easier to use than the Strat. It's not quite as clicky as the GH3 guitar, but close.

It's super light and short. Feels like a toy much more than other instruments.

Overall, given the fact that I can play GH3 with it, and will only be using it for bass (no solo struts), I am satisfied.

Green Grass and High Tides is fucking torture on drums; this song is like 15 minutes long, and my drum set starts to pick up random double drum strikes if I'm hitting blue and green at the same time (I play lefty).

Play a lot for a couple of weeks, and then go back to GGAHT. I thought it sucked even on medium at first... but then my endurance improved and when I went back to it I 5 starred it my first try on hard, and again the first time I tried it on expert.... once you get past the point where lack of endurance is killing you, you'll find that it's actually a pretty repetitive and boring song for drums.. heh. It's an awsome (and difficult) song though on guitar

I four-starred it on Medium; had a system where I ignore certain notes, use overdrive to get back up, then ignore more notes, rinse, repeat. My drumset acts up, if I've got a red and yellow or blue and green note hit together, I can hit them at exactly the same time and usually one doesn't pick up. Plus this pedal isn't really suited for quick double hits.

10 mins, but its still torture on drums and guitar (hard mode, for get expert) Great song tho. Fun playing a duel with online. If I do really well the other guy usually quits as the song is so freaking long they usually dont want to exhaust themselves.

I bought the Rock Band game right when it came out. My unit has a production date of 10/31/2007. I'm assuming I have the older style drums, the ELs. I REALLY hate the clacking sound on the drums to the point I really haven't played this game more than 4~5 hours. What is the best solution to make it sound better? (IE: deaden the sound?)

A lot of people on the rock band forums get gum rubber pads. I don't mind the noise they make, in fact I think it helps to be able to hear how my hits are landing compared to what I am seeing on the screen.... so I've never modified my drums. Those forums though are full of mods for the drums.
Some people also have padded their actual drumsticks and they say it helps with the noise... I dunno, I tend to think that would affect your actual drumming too much.

You can get a lot of variations of drum pads on e-bay...

You can try Drum Soft Pads. I'd steer clear of "DrumPads4RockBand.com" as their pads are not that good, apparently. You can also get different sticks that are made for electronic drums.

I think that site is wrong. I believe the older versions are the QMs, at least that is what I got with my Special Edition set in early Dec. The standalone drums are ELs as well as the RMA I just received for my QM set. QMs are really good at being modded and ELs, at least my experience with them, are really bad at mods and have really poor sensitivity and a small target to hit for it to register.

To quiet mine I use one layer with socks and on top of those I have neoprene mouse pads rubber banded to the top of my drum. I have really good sensitivity as even fast drums rolls are picked up and also increased rebound bc of the mouse pads and decreased sound as well. I also don't have to hit my pads hard like when I had my EL set. The QM is superior set to play with with a couple simple mods. You could also go with rubber tipped drum sticks like jdport mentioned. If you don't want to spend 25-35 bucks on those pads, just cut 7" circles from any mouse pads you can find and secure them with 2 rubber bands like I said. Works great.

Also another reason to get pads is to prevent the drumheads from cracking. I don't play really hard, but even after a couple months they still cracked and lost responsiveness. If you have to do 2 mods, do the one I mentioned and get something to reinforce the bass pedal bc it will break, guaranteed. Or just get a real bass pedal and add a sensor to it, that's what I did.

If you have an EL, send it back until you get a QM. You can find the serial # on the bottom of the drums to verify the model.

Via Major Nelson:

MTV Games and Harmonix have teamed up with McDonald?s to drop the price on select Rock Band tracks in the United States and Canada. Each week until June 1st, you can grab two tracks for 80 points each. To help you budget your time and money, here is the schedule of tracks:

5/6/08-5/12/08 :
Crushcrushcrush - Paramore
Rock 'n Roll Band - Boston

5/13/08-5/19/08 :
Shockwave - Black Tide
Sugar Magnolia - Grateful Dead

5/20/08-5/26/08:
We Care A Lot - Faith No More
All the Small Things - Blink 182

5/27/08-6/2/08:
Gimme Three Steps - Lynyrd Skynyrd
Dirty Little Secret - All-American Rejects

The lower price will start tomorrow at 0200 PT. But I wanted to give everyone a heads up as soon as I found out about this promotion.

I didn't download any of these - I may need to get the Boston track - maybe the Blink 182 one, too.

Also, I broke bass pedal #2. They sent a new one no questions asked, though. I'm very content with EA's support for this game.

Darn, all the songs on this list that I care about I already have... maybe I'll pick up a couple of the others though since they'll be half price
I already have Rock 'n Roll Band and Gimme Three Steps... the other songs I don't know, any thoughts on which ones are particularly fun to play?

Link - Rock Band DLC being added to South Park: Season 11 DVD

For the first time ever on DVD, every episode is UNCENSORED! While supplies last, every DVD will include a 3-song download pack for the MTV Games sensation ROCK BAND!

I think that's kind of funny considering they were playing Guitar Hero.

Makes sense though since Viacom owns Comedy Central and MTV.

That was my first thought too... heh. But, I thought it said the songs would go on a limited number of the DVD's.... so the rental places would probably get DVD's without the songs..

I'll be getting "Train in Vain" and "Kool Thing". I didn't realize it when I played it in GH3, but it sounds like drums would be a lot of fun in Kool Thing.

So, I'm finally up to the fall out boy song on expert drums. Why does such a god-awful song have to be so hard? It's double torture because I have to listen to arguably the worst song in Rock Band while trying to get through it.
