Any word on if with Zen 3 coupling the fabric clock (FCLK) and memory clock will be unnecessary? They say the sweet spot is DDR4 4000mhz for Zen 3. Or does the new infinity fabric in Zen 3 allow for higher memory timings without becoming unstable. I know Zen2 and Zen 3 use the same memory controller.

From the Igor's lab review, it appears that coupling the FCLK and memory clock is still necessary to get a performance increase. In his review, Zen 3 gains nearly as much as Intel does with the faster memory. Also, AMD did release a slide about memory overclocking for Zen 3:

Seeing the performance and metrics on these new 5000 Ryzens, I think the Intel 9700K at MicroCenter for $200 can't be touched. I have to cough up $450 for an 8-core 5800X and they look to be extremely close in real-world gaming benchmarks, for less than half the cost.

Outside of that... Glad to see AMD has pulled out such incredible increases in performance on the same node and power envelope.

after reading a ton of Zen 3 reviews today I'm still confused as to which is the better buy for gaming...everyone says the 5900X is excellent overall but I haven't seen any detailed write ups about the single CCX on the 5800X vs the 6+6 CCX on the 5900X and what if any factor that plays in the overall performance

Anyone see benches for Microsoft Flight Sim 2020? I think that's the most cpu limited game out there.
Okay, after my mistaken post on the phone, I did find some actual Flight Sim 2020 reviews:
Zen3 leading in FPS and 99p but Intel ahead in 99.9p (lager is Dutch for lower).

Less detailed test.

Now geekbench results on linux are also out. Two ST results for 5950X (that look to be stock) are 1735 and 1780.

These are before the launch of geekbench 5.3 that will add support for additional Zen 3 AES instructions (confirmed by the dev). We should be seeing scores north of 1800 ST on Linux then.

Care to guess which IPC thread on this forum will never list these scores? As Macos vs Linux "is not representative" but Macos vs Windows somehow is.

You risk summoning demons to this very thread with posts like that. Said demons must be already in bad mood, cause there are still 4 ALU on ZEN3 and yet perf has risen by 20%.

On topic of properly done IPC comparisons, there is a gem in OC.net forums from our old friend The Stilt, I hope he doesn't mind if i link his hard job here:

For those lazy to check, the IPC results are in this pic library:

Amazing performance from AMD, jaw dropping performance in things like compression. I am most impressed by ZSTD results, very relevant for our business 48% advance in unheard of.

Gamer's Nexus says differently. If his benches are to be believed, the 5600x ($299) is THE Gaming only cpu. In many Benches it scored ABOVE the 10900k.

A 5600 would truly be a killer CPU, especially since it could probably be overclocked nicely. The power efficiency of the 5600X at stock is amazing:
Draws less power than a 3300X!

What demons?! "Joking aside", it was always possible that he meant 'wider cores' quite literally:

A320 casually running a 5900X + DDR4-3600 RAM

Looks like we'll get beta BIOSes for these CPUs on A320, B350 and X370, just like we did for the 3000 series. This time it'll be unofficial and unsupported of course, but who cares

If I get another gen out of this C6H, oh man

@lobz

Wider dice anyway, ha ha

Overall a very nice release by AMD. Still trying to process the implications of some of the MT results, though The_Stilt's numbers add a lot of interesting data since he normalized for clockspeed. Would like to see 5950X vs 3950X @ 4 GHz (instead of 142W PPT) on MT benchmarks, since 5950X is all over the map when it comes to MT.

While getting probably way to deep into performance graphs, and looking at retrospective performance, I couldn't help but notice this little gem... and thought best to put it into picture format.. I was frankly very taken back. Bang on to the % point too

To put it further in perspective, and remind everyone. Cinebench R15 was a Sore point for the FX architecture, and a strong point for Zen 1. Whereas now it's pretty representive within the Zen family. So consider that when looking at this.

Those double Digit Single Cinebench scores were a real thorn in the side of the FX, and really shoved in one's face just how lacking they were in ST performance. Yet Zen 1 launched with what everyone thought was essentially 'impossible' levels of ST uplift over what was a 4.5 yr old FX . As per the graph, a masive 1.73x ST score over Vishera.

To think we were so accustomed to Intel's , and AMD's for that matter (prior to Zen) paltry year on year performance increases as being the norm, we thought Zen's uplift over a 4+ year FX architecture was a 'miracle' . Some even denied it was even possible. until the benchmarks hit.

Now look at what we have today after a mere 3.5 Yrs , on top of what was considered a 'one off' leap in performance that was Zen 1. An identical Uplift.

Don't know what else to say really. I've been doing this for a while, and it's really fascinating how things have turned out. To Have Per Core performance take such center stage again in x86 land is something. If someone told me at the time Zen launched , that in a few years Zen 3 would be like Going from FX to Zen again in SINGLE threaded performance, I'd have had a laugh at them. Lucky no one did.

Ahh I couldnt wait (didnt want to hahahaa) to see if someone ends up providing a mod BIOS for my MSI X370 Titanium.

Hopefully something will come out as I have a prospective buyer coming to take it off my hands along with the waterblock, they may be able to use the mod in future ....

Wow! Really impressed with the performance of Ryzen 5000.

Couple of questions:
1. I'm currently on an 8700K. Will it make sense for me to get a 5600x (or 5800x) if I plan to get a 6800XT or 3080 and game @ 1440p? Would it make more sense to wait for Zen 4 instead?
2. I'm not seeing any 8700K benchmarks in review graphs. Anyone have an idea of where in the graphs it would sit? Somewhere between the 3600 and 3900x?

Stay with your current CPU, it's perfectly fine for now.

Your 8700K is very well represented actually, just look at 10600K results. (same 6c/12t config, high clocks)
