While getting probably way to deep into performance graphs, and looking at retrospective performance, I couldn't help but notice this little gem... and thought best to put it into picture format.. I was frankly very taken back. Bang on to the % point too
To put it further in perspective, and remind everyone. Cinebench R15 was a Sore point for the FX architecture, and a strong point for Zen 1. Whereas now it's pretty representive within the Zen family. So consider that when looking at this.
Those double Digit Single Cinebench scores were a real thorn in the side of the FX, and really shoved in one's face just how lacking they were in ST performance. Yet Zen 1 launched with what everyone thought was essentially 'impossible' levels of ST uplift over what was a 4.5 yr old FX . As per the graph, a masive 1.73x ST score over Vishera.
To think we were so accustomed to Intel's , and AMD's for that matter (prior to Zen) paltry year on year performance increases as being the norm, we thought Zen's uplift over a 4+ year FX architecture was a 'miracle' . Some even
denied it was even possible. until the benchmarks hit.
Now look at what we have today after a mere 3.5 Yrs ,
on top of what was considered a 'one off' leap in performance that was Zen 1. An identical Uplift.
Don't know what else to say really. I've been doing this for a while, and it's really fascinating how things have turned out. To Have Per Core performance take such center stage again in x86 land is something. If someone told me at the time Zen launched , that in a few years Zen 3 would be like Going from FX to Zen again in SINGLE threaded performance, I'd have had a laugh at them. Lucky no one did.
