Performant isn't an invented word, it already exists and mean something different from how it's being used.why did we invent a new word form when "it doesn't offer any more performance than N7, it's lower performing than N7+" would suffice?
Performant means "performing as expected." One could logically say that N6 is no more performant than N7 because the term "performant" isn't a grayscale term and it applies only to whether the thing works like it should. If N6 works like it should and N7 does as well, then both are performant, and he's right, N6 isn't any more performant because... they both work like expected.
Since N6 is a port of N7 that doesn't require retooling but does offer ~15% logic density reduction without any claims made as to speed or power draw, my guess is that it's actually performant per TSMC.
But per DrMrLordX it's not performant, because he seems to imply he expected a speed gain... I think. But he'll have to clarify.
