I suggest you contact amdskip for a possible list of the deadbeat secret Santas from last year.

Would it make people more comfortable if I made it so that I limit participants? How about I set it so that you have to qualify for one of these two conditions:
- a registration date in 2003 or earlier and have a some sort of references I can look up
OR
- Have excellent heatware. I'm talking at least 30+ positives with no neutrals no negatives.

I WILL check references by sending emails. I'm sorry if some people don't qualify, but I think this will screen out most of the scammers.

Of course, it's entirely possible that things get lost in the mail, so I will make it that you must send the package with delivery confirmation and insurance regardless of how you send it. I will want to receive the DC numbers when you send the items out, failure to insure and get a DC number will result in negative feedback. It is still possible that packages get lost in the mail and what not, but I'll handle these situations on a per-case basis.

edit: I will definitely contact amdskip to get the list of deadbeat santas from last year. They will be banned from this year's SS for obvious reason.

To be perfectly honest, I didn't know there were any deadbeats at all, but it looks like there were at least a couple, judging from the replies. It's really sad when you try to take advantage of a $20 secret santa.

i know lastyear they asked for heat and ebay refs

hower 30 is a big number for heat, i just hit 30 refs yesterday, all positive, till like 2 weeks abo i only had 20 and ive been selling crap for years, i just dont do it all that often

there was a number of people that got screwed last year, too many to have just gotten "lost in the mail"
i know negative feedbacks and such were given last year for this, hell i actually think peopel got banned because of it

anyway limiting it to hard is bad because then only known people from the forums can get in, and makes it hard for someone new to get a good repuation here

haveing everyone provide refs and such as well as a known mailing address is a good idea

I think you guys are misunderstanding. If you've been a part of the forums since 2003 or earlier, the requirements will be more lax, as long as you have a few references it won't be a problem. The 30+ heatware requirement applies only to relatively new members (that is those that have joined in 2004).

Like I said, this might exclude a few relative newcomers to the forums but I think it will screen out the scammers.

Judging from the poll, I'll likely just be going with one $20 limit group, separated georgraphically. If a few more people choose the $50 option I might consider making a small group of "hish stakes" Secret Santas
