Ok I found a different Konqueror. Now when I install it wants Dependencies: qt-embedded (>=2.3.2), opie-base, libjpeg62. I have 2 of them but not the opie-base. I guess I will try to search for that one.

Hi,

Thought I'd post with something "fun" I have found for the Zaurus...I have the original Sharp ROM.
I installed a nifty startup screen by following directions at this web site http://www.mmhart.com/ssz.htm and downloading a premade startup screen...I'm using a big picture of Tux!

Whats funny to is when I try to install Konqueror it still says it needs libssl even tho that is installed too.

I'm not quite sure why you're having so many problems. For me, installing Konqueror involved starting Qtopia desktop, right clicking konqueror-snapshot-full from the "Software" tab then hitting install. It downloaded and installed and I was set to go. This was under OZ 3.2 by the way.

I have got to be missing something so obvious. I just reflashed with OZ 3.2 and I got to Qtopia 1.6 and right click this file konqueror-snapshot-full_0.9.1-20021229.2_arm.ipk then hit install. Then it wants 2 other files which of one is in here and one is not (opie-base). If you got to the properties of Konqueror and look under Dependencies you will see this ependencies: qt-embedded (>=2.3.2), opie-base, libjpeg62. The only file I cannot find is this opie-base. Nacs you must be using certain feeds that already has that file in there. I cannot seem to find the feed with that file and I searched everywhere.

Well I found the file but NOW it is looking for other files which I do not have. This seems to go on and on and on. There must be one feed directory that has them all. Hopefully www.zaurus.com will come back online soon.

I am using the D-Link DCF-660W for wireless and it works perfectly. All I had to do was put it in and it connected without any user intervention.

Have you noticed that all these web sites devoted to Linux related stuff are nearly always down for the count?? It's kinda hilarious.

I've been using the feeds myself to install stuff in OZ... I'm out of space infact, I need a SD card

You just have to go to /etc/ and edit ipkg.conf (or something like that I don't have my pda here). I used vi to edit the conf from console(I am too use to console, I never use x), I've been using pico/joe for years now (I don't like vi much)...

quick tips for using vi, hit "i" to start editing. Ctrl+C for command mode then :wq<enter> to write+quit.

There are 3 lines that are commented out, ie "# src testing http://url" just delete the # from each line, and save it... Then open the package manager again and go to download lists, then you're good to go. Btw helps if you are able to get online tho, try pinging your router from console, or ssh2 to your pda to see if it works... You could just add these by hand inside of the package manager but removing three #s is a lot easier then typing the stuff out on that tiny keyboard, I'd like to know why they were commented out in the first place..

You can also install packages via console, "ipkg install http://url -d <ram/cf/sd/root>" I've been installing to ram and root, as I don't have a sd card yet (my cf card is filled with mp3s)...

I have noticed with Konqueror that some websites start to load, then all of a sudden Konqueror closes, I enabled logging, and it doesn't tell me anything, anyone figure out why it does this?

I've been using OpenZaurus today and for some reason, it seems much slower than the Sharp ROM. Programs seem to take a bit longer to load than they used to. Is it just me?

I'm currently using an IBM 340mb Microdrive in mine and was wondering if battery life would be noticably better if I was using a CF card.

I think I see why Konqueror closes itself on some sites... For some reason it does not send User_Agent so most sites think it's a spam bot looking for email addresses and more then likely reject the connection... I don't see why it wouldn't say anything and just close, or maybe it's just a coincidence... I guess I'll just have to try to install Opera. When I get a SD card that is, where's a good deal on a 512 stick when you want one

I don't actually have an IBM Microdrive, but I hear they use more battery power and produce more heat then a CF card - noticeably so. It makes sense, because the Microdrive has more moving parts.

The microdrives are also notorious for breaking. I've heard many people complain about their IBM microdrives failing.

Here?s how to transer your internet ?bookmarks? from Internet Explorer, Opera or Netscape to the Zaurus and use them as your Zaurus Opera ?startup page?:

1. Get the Columbine Book Merge free utility from HERE. This utility opens with two panes; open your bookmark file in the left pane and drag and drop whichever URLS you want to use in the Zaurus over to the right-hand pane. You can create your own folders and arrange them any way you want.
2. Save the file as ?index.html? to your desktop or wherever. You must type in the .html extension; the utility doesn?t automatically add it. Copy the file to your Zaurus . Before you copy it if you know some html you can massage it adding your own pictures or colors or anything you like. Book Merge gives you a VERY basic plain-looking page.
3. On your Zaurus navigate to the Opera folder and rename the ?index.html? file you find there. Copy your new index.html file to the Opera folder on the Zaurus.

Now when you open Opera on the Zaurus it will display your favorite internet sites as hotlinks on the startup page.

Nacs, the site isn't coming along... at most, for another week. It's finals time, and I'm afraid everything else in life just stops momentarily. Also my computer decided to go down the drain... I've recovered for the most part, but there's still so much work to do... I've already got a web host (Dathorn) and the domain name (Zaurusrex.com). Now, I'm just waiting for the hell that is finals to end...

OK yesterday I bought the Belkin wireless pda card for $29, according to the Zaurus Dev forums this card will work with the Z, but I can't get it to work, I setup the SSID and the channel for my WAP and when I try and connect thru opera I get nothing, what else do I need to try?

Uh, oh, I just bought the Belkin card myself online, but have not received it yet. I was hoping it would work just as soon as I plugged it in with no trouble.

Play with Adhoc and Infastructure. My DLink doesn't work right away, I have to configure it for my LAN. I don't have my Zaurus at the moment since I had to send it out for repair but what I'd have to do is switch ot to Adhoc so I can change my channel. Then I put it on Infastructure, put in my network and password and it works. Atleast thats what I remember doing...
