Yeah the MSI boards are nice for running stock or a mild overclock but these Solteks are a budget overclockers best friend, I just hope we can keep buying them here in the states :brokenheart:

Cool, glad to see this thread is still going strong. That is too bad that about Soltek USA. Guess i'll cherish this board a little more.

I havnt been benchmarking anymore. been playing Mafia (almost done, sweet game!) About to play Splinter Cell. This new system takes everything I throw at it like a champ.

Soltek frn2- l
1700 + tbred A @ 166x11.5 = 1909
2x 256 2700 corsair xms @ 7 3 3 2.5

That's a good overclock on that "A" I'm sure your stoked with it. These boards definitely got game that's for certain! I've played Splinter Cell but haven't played Mafia, right now I'm ate up with the Hulk! Man this game is cool! Some of the lines the soldiers say when your pounding and crushing them are great, and the moves you can do with the Hulk are the ones I always wanted to be able to use  Best superhero game I've ever played by far! The sound quality is very good and I'm surprised how crisp it is.

Not that I put too much faith in 3Dmark benchmarking. But replacing my old mobo (Shuttle AK35G2) with this Soltek, my 3Dmark 2001 scores increased from 10000ish to 15000ish.
Might be the difference of 4x AGP and 8x AGP with my 9700 pro.

This mobo is incredible.

I have 3 sticks of identical samsung 512 2700, I only have 2 installed at the moment because I thought that dual channel would only work in pairs, but from what I understand I can add the 3rd stick and dual channel will still be enabled... Can someone confirm this?

Yes, you can use all 3 sticks and still have DC-DDR mode though stability at higher FSB speeds might be effected.

I think you misunderstood me, I'm saying that I think by using 3 sticks you probably won't get as high of an overclock as using 2 sticks but only individual testing of the results will give you a definite answer. and yes if you want to try 3 sticks you will want to use another identically sized stick of ram, preferably an identical stick in every way I.E. brand, timing, series, ect.

Good news! Soltek U.S.A. is negotiating with Soltek HQ to try and resolve the problems and remain in business. Evidently it's due price wars and lack of support. Price issue is increased due to the logistic problem and Asian market situation related to SARS.

Well, I did get an order in at Googlegear for our favorite motherboard, on roughly the fifth try. (I finally figured out that they don't like Opera, my usual browser.) But it's good to read that sales might not be discontinued.

By the way, thanks for the thoughts on how best to add USB ports. I hadn't considered a hub before.

Now to decide on the CPU and RAM..

Crap, I had my Soltek FRN2-RL for nearly over a week now, and still no CPU! I just can't find any good deals, or get the good CPU deals. My local frys had plenty of great combo deals (where i keep the cpu and ebay the mobo), but I can't get there to these 1 day only sales. Already got a great deal on the mobo, why not get a great deal on the cpu.

Should just grab an insanely cheap XP1700 for now until you can afford or shall i say... find a better deal on something else... you can get XP1700's for like $50 USD... nothing wrong with that !!!

Is there a good chance of getting the Thoroughbred B version from newegg these days?
