I am pretty sure there was a special crossover comic produced by Marvel that included Superman. I think it came out in the early to mid 80's.

DC and Marvel have done this a few times in their history. The other time I remember was a crossover with the New Mutants and the Teen Titans.

They also did a big crossover in the late 90's (gosh it feels weird sayin that) and created a whole line of comics together for a while (Almagam). Also, there's a Justice League/Avengers crossover that's going on/just went on.

Out of the two hours there was like 30-45 minutes of actual intriguing action and story.

The remaining time consisted of:

MJ: I love you Peter. Do you love me?
Peter: No.

Peter: I don't want to be a super-hero 'cuz people don't like me. I'm not going to be Spiderman no-more.

Peter: I can love you now MJ, Do you love me?
MJ: No.

Peter: Rats. I was miserable before. I'm miserable now...I guess I'll be a super-hero again.

Brock is mentioned when Peter first goes to the paper to sell some pictures of Spiderman/himself. While J.J. is barking orders at his assistant (Ted Raimi, A.K.A. Joxer the Mighty) one of the things he says is, "...and tell Brock to have those photos on my desk by 5:00 or he's fired!"

I want a Spiderman movie with Venom, and based on how he's already been introduced (kinda) along with the possible routes for his supervillian transformation that have been created in SM2 (John Jameson bringing the symbiote back from space) I think we'll have the pleasure of seeing one. Unfortunately I think it's going to be SM5 before we see it, and if it's the last movie they make -- as has been suggested -- that means there will be no movie featuring Carnage and potentially no transformation of Venom from supervillian to super-kinda-hero.

I'm fairly certain the next Spiderman movie will have The Lizard/Lizardman in it. About 6 months previously there was some word that he was the villian of the next movie, and with the introduction of Dr. Connors in SM2 I think it's nearly a sure thing. But based on the other potential villians waiting to be created (John Jameson as The Wolfman/Man Wolf and Harry Osborne as the second Green Goblin) SM3 may be a multi-villian movie. The thing is, I don't think it'll work very well unless the two/three villians work together, and I don't remember any of them collaborating with each other to destroy Spiderman. (I haven't read those issues directly though, so I'm no expert) There's no reason why the movie can't be different from the comics though, but it'd be nice if there was a basic resemblance.

So in the meantime I'll be waiting, impatiently, for Venom to hit the big screen. And hoping against hopes that they decide to make a separate Venom movie about him becoming a pseudo-superhero.

I'm a huge Venom fan, but it's been forever since I've read the comics and I never had the Spiderman issues with Venom's origins, so I may be off on some of this. Bear with me....

Venom was a supervillian (and later superhero) who "hit the scene" when disgruntled and discredited reporter Eddie Brock united with an alien symbiote that once served as Peter Parker's Spiderman suit, but was later shunned. Allow me to explain in detail.

Eddie Brock -- as was hinted at in the first Spiderman movie -- was a reporter who was just barely scraping by, living from deadline to deadline. His career got a boost when he was able to get exclusive interviews with a serial killer. Somehow -- can't remember the specifics -- Spiderman exposed the fact that Brock was faking the interviews, thereby ruining his career and invoking Brock's intense hatred for Spiderman.

The alien symbiote (I think) was a "living liquid" type entity that was brought back with John Jameson from a spaceflight. It found Spiderman and proposed an arrangement: the symbiote would function as his suit -- bringing with it a number of advantages, including the ability to hide under his normal clothing -- and in return Peter Parker would let it stay on him 24/7, giving it a body and providing it sustenance. Eventually it became obvious that Peter Parker's style of crimefighting and the symbiote's didn't mesh very well, and along with some other incompatibilites I can't recall at this moment Peter decided they should part ways. Unfortunately the symbiote wasn't in any mood to leave.

Peter already knew the symbiote was hurt by sonics and loud noises, so he made his way to a church with a belltower. Unbeknownst to him the still-angry Eddie Brock was following him, and observed while Peter stood in the middle of the cluster of bells and set them off. The symbiote was driven off, but later found it's way to Brock, having picked up on his hatred of Spiderman. The symbiote proposed a similar arrangement as it had with Peter Parker, only this time with the goal of killing Peter. Brock of course accepted, and together the two became Venom. And since the symbiote was no longer attempting to emulate a pre-existing outfit it showed a little more of its true self, complete with huge jagged-toothed mouth and long snakelike tongue. (Looks pretty cool, too) It did however decide to keep the webshooters, since those are cool.

Afterwards much ass-kicking of/by both Spiderman and Venom ensued. Eventually Spiderman was able to subdue Venom, drive the symbiote off of Brock with sonics and get Brock in a maximum-security prison. There Brock was roomed with a notorious and rampantly nutso serial killer -- can't remember the name -- but not for long. His symbiote managed to find him again, and after reintegrating with him the two as Venom busted out of prison. But not before the symbiote left behind a symbiotic seed -- its offspring -- which bonded with said psycho serial killer on a blood level, turning him into Carnage. It was in Carnage's ensuing rampage that Venom realized -- among other things -- that as much as he hated Spiderman the world needed him and people like him, and that saving lives should be a higher priority than killing Peter Parker. After Carnage was defeated for the time being Venom left New York and went to San Fransisco, where he became the local pseudo-hero and protector of the homeless.

EDIT: I didn't read the thread either. I'll have to check out the Marvel Directory later, get my facts straight.

Whoa. Based on the Marvel directory, that Venom summary was very close. That's some kind of memory to be able to recall that from comic books. I only knew of the characters, but could never afford the comic books to know the story behind them. Sounds cool.

I just watched the movie yesterday and loved it. I found the "cheesey" moments to be hilarious, especially the elevator scene and goofy freeze-frame sequence.

As for predictions about future Spider-Man movies, I doubt they will make good on the many characters they hinted at. I think they intended it more as an inside joke more than anything else. GG2, Lizard, Venom and Man-Wolf all at once would be too much for the average movie-goer to handle. I actually wouldn't be surprised if they introduced a another villain, possibly a female one (hopefully, they won't screw it up like T3). Besides Aunt May and MJ, have we even heard another female voice in the two Spider-Man movies?

I had the advantage of purchasing the Venom comics as they came out. I started with the third batch of them and kept buying them. About 6 months after my first purchase I went back, found the first two sets of comics and bought those as well. I imagine now they'd be a bit more expensive than what I purchased them for.

So what was I wrong on? I can't check the Directory until I get home.

This is classic Sam Raimi directing. It's not quite as obvious as the death of the Green Goblin in the first movie (where it suddenly cuts to a closeup of Osborne saying "Oh" as he realizes the glider is going to impail(sp?) him) but it's the kind of stuff he does in all of his movies. One of the reasons I like the fact that he's directing the movies; if they were completely serious it would give the movies a much darker feel.

There was the landlord's daughter in the second movie, as well as Doc Ock's late wife. But by and far, no, no significant female characters besides Aunt May and MJ.

Lizardman is almost definitely going to be in the third movie. I was hearing things about it even before the first teasers came out.

what is so great about this movie?

honestly I saw this movie and thought it was average or maybe decent at best. Why it is breaking all these records beats me, maybe its just the lack of other good movies.

But IMDB rating of 8.3, that is mindboggling

ya, they did. it was when the symbiot reproduced and formed carnage and that wierd cult guy used them free his master. venom teamed up with spidey, but i dont remember exactly y, it was his hate for carnage and i think for some woman (damn women turn em all soft).

i really hope they bring in venom...he's the coolest villain along with kingpin/fisk IMO (insidius six anyone?), but i doubt itll be in spidey3. id guess they're gonna have hobgoblin and for some reason morbius is popping into my mind with black cat.

o, and i loved the mention of dr strange....made my day

actually maximum carnage was after carnage was formed. venom and carnage were allies for quite some time before they became enemies.
