Wow, I was fairly close on my memory of the events leading up to the creation of Venom. I was unsure of the symbiote's origins and I had forgotten that it for the most part did not communicate except on a direct telepathic level, and even then not very often. I'm surprised the Directory left out the part about Venom moving to San Fran after defeating Carnage in the Maximum Carnage saga. I am certain of it though; I'm looking at the comics that prove it.

There's a lot of backstory to Venom, so in order to get him in a Spiderman movie they'd either have to cram a lot of stuff into several movies or fudge it on his origins. Of course the current movie fudged Doc Ock's origins and eventual demise slightly, as well as Spiderman's and Green Goblin's. I see no reason why Venom couldn't have a quicker, less background-heavy origin.

/me gets out his protest board, writes "Venom in Spiderman 4/5!!!" and starts marching in a circle

I dunno if Tobey McGuire will be able to do all the way up to Spiderman 5 if there is one. I remember reading an article on MSNBC about how they weren't sure if they wanted him to be it or not, and that he had a major back problem from filming that horse movie. I dunno if I can find this article, but I'm sure some of you read his interviews.

they wouldn't have to fudge too much if they go by the cartoon/"ultimate" storyline where the symbiote comes back on the shuttle (they have followed those storylines more than original storylines anyway so it makes sense) since john jameson is back from space (or hell they could send him there/back in between movies 2 and 3). spend the first 1/4 of the movie with it attached to spidey (or less) then show eddie brock getting it, then they can duke it out.

another good spiderman site. has synopsis of the amazing spiderman comic from 1-56 as well as cartoon summaries.

She's just part of the equation to help Pete realize there are still good people left in the world worth protecting, that's all.

Toby said back problems, but the studio was saying it was a salary problem. Not sure who to believe. I'm tending to believe the studio.

What upsets me is that Spiderman has super human strength and Doc Ock has his mechanical arms right?. So where in the story does it make sense that when Spiderman punches him there is no blood or anything. I don?t recall seeing anything that showed that those mechanical arms made him impervious to pain or injury.
It?s just a movie though, so I suppose I can forgive it. By the way, what did everyone think of Bruce Campbell?s little usher part? Bruce is the man!

It's possible that Doc Ock has lost all feeling to pain since his spinal cord was "fused". Spidey also may not have been hitting at full force b/c he is not a murderer, he was probably hitting at half force to just try and knock Ock out. But if you've ever read the comics, it wouldn't even matter if Spidey did knock Doc out b/c the arms control themselves and would have still been attacking Spidey... (I think issue 88 or 89 was where the arms fight Spidey w/out Doc Ock)

Tobey was only in a few movies before the first, and with that lack of experience I think thats what was needed for the part of Peter Parker. Lets not forget that he is suppose to look and act like a nerd. Seasoned actors generally overdramatize and maybe Tobey's willow-washy acting made Parker's character come alive.

if you're talking about who I think you are, he was the ring leader of the match against bone saw and "the human spider" which he renamed spiderman.
