Played a Terran who went cloaked banshees - god they are annoying. He had no minerals left and only a turtled up base. Lost his command centre trying to expand. Then he flies off his buildings to the corner of the map and harasses using cloaked banshees. Forces me to get observers and phoenixes to finish him off another 10 minutes later.

My goal now, in life, is to rape every single Terran player there is

Bring it on bitch

edit: i pulled that kind of harassment against a protoss on desert oasis recently. I was originally going to 3rax into expand, but I was like ehhh I bet he doesn't get detection. And sure enough he went straight to TC & no robo when I scouted. (Figured I could always abort mission and do medivac drop if I saw like 2gate robo.) Yeaaaaah it felt evil to bring in that cloaked banshee

wtf is it with impolite noobs on bnet? It isn't your partner's job to always be saving you from your own crappy play & crappy decisions.

If you chase after a reaper with ALL of your probes (and I have to fucking save you b/c you're too incompetent to scout & build stalkers), don't scream at me for "failing to leave a defense force for [the noob's] base" when the next attack kills you. B/c I'm going to build enough units to defend your base & my base from the combined enemy force... totally possible.

If you make 15 total drones and your army isn't big enough to fight anything, don't scream at me for failing to come to your defense... esp when I was off wiping out one of the enemy bases. That's right, if my force was in your base, *I* totally could have beaten off the attackers. *You* would've still been good for fucking nothing.

If you build all roaches and get raped by mutas, don't scream at me for 'not leaving marines in [the noob's] base'. I am not an on-demand turret force. My marines have better things to do than defend you from your inability to scout and tech.

When did it become my job to defend my base AND my "teammate's" base?! Buncha shitty assholes.

I mean, if you suck, then you suck. I suck at this game. But don't blame your own shortcomings on your teammate. I fall victim to shit like reaper cheese often enough, but I don't spam shit like "OMG WHY DIDNT YOU HELP ME" "YOU SUCK" etc. GAH.
Instead, try to be fucking useful or just gg out. Send resources, try to get your base restarted, offer to share unit control & do harassment or help your partner micro battles or something; don't be a dick.
While I agree 100% with you, I've been having the opposite problem. In 3v3 or 4v4 games when several opposing players rush me, I obviously don't have enough units to defend myself and most of the time my teammates don't help. Gee, what a great idea, let's not help the guy who had the misfortune to be chosen by the opposing team to be rushed while we nicely set up the defense in our base, well guess what moron? now that you have one less player than the other team you're in for an ass raping

This stuff is my main reason for preferring 1v1. In most of the team games I play on maps with separation, if the other team attacks early/mid game before us, the game is over. It's frustrating to lose to a mass of units attack-moved into your base -.-.

Yeah that's true too. 3v3 & 4v4 are really hard in this sense b/c you have to be extremely on the ball with scouting, so that you see the enemy coming in time to organize your group.

It's extra balls when you're playing with a random team vs people who play together regularly. Too often, people want to do their own thing (esp cheese, lol) & don't/won't contribute to the team aspect. Even co-op vs the computer gets harder than a 1v1 due to their much much much greater organization.

That said I've had a good number of 3v3 and 4v4 games where my team was on the ball and reasonably well organized; I find it more enjoyable/less stressful than 1v1.

If you don't mind me asking, how many games did it take you to move from gold to plat to diamond?

None of the good terran players out there will lose to a protoss 4 gate. I ran my 4 gate through placement and through gold and through platinum and only lost to one terran. Once I moved up to diamond after about 25 games I immediately lost to the next 4 terran I played...

In three of the games I actually controlled the game, took down their wall, and killed SCV's with drops. But when the MMM ball left their base it just walked across the map stim packed 3-4 times and killed everything I had. (4th game the guys marauder push raped me and he finished me with a banshee... ugh) The matchup of MMM vs 4-gate basically comes down to the effectiveness of stim pack/heal vs blink/charge.

While I would take blink and charge in a larger map with nice openings that allow my micro and multi tasking to shine, sadly most of the solo maps are incredibly tiny and force your units into terribly small spaces. This is where stim pack owns protoss.

So the terran players I play now either push into my base immediately with marine marauder when they scout and see my going gate/core or they sit in their base until they have a ball built with stim pack researched or they do some funky banshee tech. If I 4-gate I lose to each of these builds.

Last night I decided to try a 2 gate-robotics build against the terran I played. I scouted him pretty well and saw him leave his base to hit me early. I micro'd and stalled but he still entered my base with like 3 marines and 3 marauders against my 4 stalkers and 1 zealot. He also put down a bunker in my base. I pushed him out after I lost a gateway/core/pylon with 2 immortals and my probes. Then I massed immortal/sentry/stalker and beat his MMM/tank.

I will probably drop my 4-gate vs terran completely and focus on a 2-gate/robotics build for now.

I play a shit ton of Colonial Line Wars. It's an extremely indepth, fairly balanced "tug of war" style map with few noobs, unlike Desert Strike and Nexus Wars.

My biggest problem is that there is an unbalanced GG unit. After many, many, many, many games of this, I haven't lost in days, and that's tons and tons of games. If the units had "real sc" stats (with perhaps small adjustments to range), it would be amazing.

I've been having fun playing Phantom (google wikipedia assassin game) with friends too.

The DOTA (storm of the imperial sands) map is extremely well done also, and there are some survival rpgs as well, but they aren't my cup of tea.

does anyone play custom games? what are the best ones?

I've helped out my partners in the past in 2v2. I don't see why it's such a big deal when they're Zerg with the low early game anti-air and I'm Terran with the super easy Marine AA capability.

If I can build marines and/or eng bay + turrets when I scan the spire, you can build hydras, mutas, or spores. Zerg can't survive on hatchery tech for the whole game. If all my zerg partner wants to do is mass roaches & zerglings & ignore what the opponents are doing, then too bad when they lose.

Yeah I can run over enough marines to kick out the mutas. But I'm not building ONLY marines, so if the mutaguy is smart, he'll run those mutas back to my base and harass my shit... while my army is miles away. Your partner isn't there for "oh I don't feel like dealing with X Y Z possible combinations from my enemy, so my partner will save me." He's there for "oh shit both enemies are attacking me, I can't hold HELP" or "hey if i baneling his wall can you steamroll him with MM ball?" or "hey I'm killing X, but Y is moving out on me, can you defend" etc.
OR
at the very least, warn me EARLY that you're doing something that's super vulnerable to muta harass (or whatever else). Then I can try to prepare for that and help you out. It's too late if the mutas are already in your base killin ur d00dz and you're screaming at me.

That's my view on it anyway. If you're tying down 2 players' resources to defend 1 player's attack, that's very, very bad.

Ahh... random teams.

When I was laddering 2v2 I've had countless games where I get attacked by both players and it goes something like:

*looks at teammate's base and sees some units*

Me: Some help would be nice.

*battle continues*

Me: ...

Me: Don't worry I got this.

*Kills all of their units*

*Teammate sends units to my now completely safe base*

*facepalm*

I think I have played 1 placement match in 2v2 and never since. i just get so pissed because of retard opponents and 2v1 cheese. In that game my opponent made like 30 cannons and he didn't send 1 unit for help even so he had like 2 minutes of them. Afterwards I could not hold them off anymore.

That's why I actually liked to play fastest in sc1. It was not that hard to block a 2v1 rush against mediocre players especially as toss.

YES thank you day9 viewers, NUCLEAR LAUNCH DETECTED

funday monday was everything I could've hoped for. mmmm mmm nukes.

beginner99: I've found 2v2 to be quite enjoyable if you aren't doing random. Having a friend to play with makes it great, even if your friend is bad. Random is kinda just luck of the draw. With a good friend, 3v3 and 4v4 are still pretty reasonable. B/c you ladder on 3v3 random even if you always play games with 1 other friend. Really gives you a one-up on truly all random teams, hehehe.

Why do people leave in 4v4 the moment the game starts? Is really annoying, this happens almost every other game; this kind of crap pisses me off.

For the people that are playing for achievements leaving the game immediately in a 4v4 is the fastest way to Team Zen Master.

The first person to get the achievement did this almost exclusively and still ended up with about a 40% win rate.

I think it's that people are abusing a flaw where wins are awarded to the team. so people just join and leave 4v4s ASAP and hope their team pulls off a win while they keep joining and leaving other 4v4s

it's kind of sad that people value achievements / avatars so much that they're willing to continually exploit this flaw

I think team games should still award wins based on the entire team because wins based on individuals in a team game is pretty dumb.

The best solution is to make it so you cannot join another game until your previous one is finished.

No that could lead to griefing if people never leave the old game. Just give the person a loss. You drop, you lose. Lots of RTS's used to work this way.

Edit - In a 3v3 or 4v4 I'd almost prefer that someone drop, more resources for me. There's just too many damn gimps.
