Yea let it air before crucifying it!

We can crucify it for any reason we please. This isn't a leak of pre-production material that might not reflect what it really looks like. This is the powers that be releasing a trailer that shows things in the best possible way because they want people to talk about. It worked, we're talking about it. IT. LOOKS. SHITTY.

The problem is unless they changed their silly minds is it won't "air."
To be fair, the first episode (and more likely, the first two episodes; Star Trek can't help but do a two-part pilot) will be aired on CBS. Just not the rest of it...

Pfft, yea like several minutes footage is going to give you a full picture!

Regarding what what? That the series won't "air" on Broadcast TV you will have to pay for a CBS subscription service, with the exception of the first episode. The only thing I ever watch on CBS is 60 minutes (one new story and two rehashed stories every week, sheez) and maybe the Redskins.

.

Try to understand this, it's not rocket science. That trailer reflects the creative minds behind the show editing footage to reflect the VERY BEST material available. That's what a trailer is, using the best footage in the best way to make the show look as good as possible. If it did not make the show look like they wanted it to look they'd recut the film until they had everything perfect. And that's what we got. That is the VERY BEST MATERIAL that the producers had to hype the show. That's what they wanted us to see. AND. IT. LOOKS. AWFUL.

Perhaps you're just easily amused by lens flare.

What's with the goby attitude 'pal'?? I was dismissive of your previous comment but I wasn't shitty to you!

I would think it's simple to understand that a short trailer several minutes long isn't going to give you a full picture of the 1st 2 episodes, let alone the whole series!
Maybe they did a rubbish job of the trailer, but that's another issue. Personally I think it looks interesting (assuming you mean this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3rj4inzcAKk ), so if you can resist any more childish jibs, maybe you can tell us what it is about the trailer you didn't like.
Oh,& I don't like lens flare

Ah ok, fair enough.

Star Trek: Discovery” has set an official premiere date, with the new entry in the storied sci-fi franchise set to launch this fall, Variety has learned.

The series will launch Sunday, Sept. 24 at 8:30 p.m./7:30c on CBS, though that time is approximate due to NFL Football and “60 Minutes” also airing that night. The series premiere will also be available on-demand on CBS All Access and the second episode of the series will be available on the service that same night immediately following the broadcast premiere.

So the title of thread said Jan 2017. All those delays/recasting/etc. "to get things right" does not bode well.

So in simple terms it won't air as they are horrible with scheduling during football.
It's probably the strongest spot to launch it in, at least for the Eastern and Central TZs. Similar to launching a show after the Super Bowl. Still, I agree that an irregular slot for a launch is not without its drawbacks.

The 15-episode season will be released in two chapters. The first eight episodes will run from Sunday, Sept. 24 through Sunday, Nov. 5. The season will then resume with the second chapter in January 2018.

I assume that means, when the ratings tank they will cancel it after the first 8 have aired.

So is it actually being aired on CBS or the pay wall channel? It WILL definitely tank if it is only the latter.

CBS has announced that the upcoming Star Trek Discovery will officially debut on the network on Sunday, September 24. The first and second episodes will be available on their streaming service, CBS All Access, that night as well.

After premiere night, all new episodes will be available on-demand weekly on Sundays exclusively for CBS All Access subscribers in the U.S. The 15-episode season will be released in two chapters. The first eight episodes will run from Sunday, Sept. 24 through Sunday, Nov. 5. The season will then resume with the second chapter in January 2018.
Looks like they are gonna air (2hr?) episode to try to hook everyone, and the rest will be on-demand for only those people that pay extra for the 'all access' BS.

I still think that the Orville will do better spoofing them but Michelle Yeoh is smoking hot.

1) It's going to a streaming service. So it's not like there's a finite number of show slots. This isn't like broadcast TV where you cancel a show because you have something better to run in its place.
2) Considering when production started, it should be done by the time the first half is done airing.
3) The series has already been sold internationally to Netflix and others. So CBS has to complete it to fulfill their contracts.

I bet all this CBS Access stuff is just to promote the service with a big show like a new Star Trek. Is there anything official that actually states the rest of the episodes won't be on CBS as well? Everything I see doesn't negate that, only that it will be available on CBS Access. After all, how many smart TV's have CBS Access app?

Not mine, zero apps for any channel except NF and Am, Hulu etc. Oh and the NASA channel was added recently which was quite a surprise.

Well, there's the fact that CBS released their fall lineup and Star Trek is not on it.
