Really dislike any picture that doesnt fill my entire screen. The black letter box lines are very distracting even when minimal like on "House of Cards".

The weird part is that there's not really a great reason to do it. It's a TV show, so the primary audience is all 16:9 screens. (And for everything else, it's going to look especially silly on an iPad or Microsoft Surface)

I hadn't heard about this new show. I'm a huge fan of TNG, DS9, and Voyager. I've watched all of the TOS episodes, but it's a bit too hokey for me. I only watched a handful of Enterprise episodes before getting turned off by the cast and the appalling storylines. Let's hope they recapture the spirit of TNG, DS9, and Voyager.

And the decision to shoot in 18:9//2:1 is insane.

space combat looks good, klingons look terrible, sounds like katy perry song, doesn't give much info on what the series will be about.

I'm really trying to like what I'm seeing. But screwball stuff like the main character being Spock's secret step-sister really isn't helping...

I'd probably give it a try, but I have zero interest in subscribing to CBS All Access soooo...

oooh sounds like the perfect place to put ads!

Shit, you're probably right. I can almost see the banner ads at the top and bottom of the screen now.

Not that I should be suprised... they've been doing this in NASCAR racing for awhile now.

..... wait for it to hit Netflix.
It won't. That's kind of the point.

Star Trek will (in the US) only be available on CBS's streaming network. Fox's shows will only be on their network, etc. Streaming is replacing cable alright, and with it comes the balkanization of having channels.

And once again, the only way people can get all of the content that the want to watch for a reasonable price is by pirating it.

Maybe the Star Trek producers are trying to take away the crown of "most pirated episode of all time" from Game Of Thrones, although the show would actually have to be pretty good for that to happen.

Not to stick up for the jackasses at CBS here, but the problem is that you can't have everything in one place for cheap. The economics don't work out. The studios spend billions per year on TV shows. "Everything ever made for $12/month" doesn't cover the costs of new content, let alone delivering it or actually making a profit on it.

The only way to have everything for a "reasonable price" is to reduce the cost of making everything. And that would mean far fewer programs and much smaller budgets.

Except in everyone's eyes, that's what Netflix is doing now and most would prefer that continue instead of all the networks thinking they can squeeze a couple extra percentange points by restricting things to their own halfcocked service.

Rumors circulating now that there's another ST project in the works, and the Discovery series is a one-season set up of a much more traditional series.

I can't wait for this. I binge on DS9, TNG, Voyager and Enterprise at least once weekend a month.

It does make sense that they would reboot the worst race in Star Trek.

And to be clear, I am definitively saying that the Klingons are the worst race in Star Trek.
