Uh, how about no? You kinda need to prove to a raiding guild that you can A) Do what is required of you the entire encounter, B) Fit in with the group, C) Commit to this group of people for the foreseeable future. Hint, we're not randoming out loot for a reason because we see loot as payment for services rendered in arrears. Some guilds are more douchey than others, that's a given. Success can = ego inflation and elitism, and sometimes justifiably so if the content is legitimately hard enough that a group of random, semi-coordinated people cannot complete it easily.
The new LFR in WoW is perfect for you if you want to see the content, get some mild upgrades, and keep rolling alts. I'm enjoying it when I can queue with some guild mates and just spend a couple hours basically dicking around with encounters that normally require a bit more concentration from us in normal and heroic mode.
I don't think you understand what I mean, you make it sound like I'm saying "Invite me and BTW let's random for loot instead of DKP so I can get phat lewts nao". I'm not saying that; I have no problem with DKP systems that mean it takes 2 months before you get anything.
What I'm saying is that even when your skill(referencing your point A) is not in question and ability to meet time commitments(C) is not in question, you still have to jump through social hoops. And sometimes these social hoops come before a trial invite and sometimes they come after a trial invite, it varies. I prefer a guild where guild chat is freed up and you're expected to have thick skin; how can you not fit in with that kind of guild, unless you take everything personally? Which is easily remedied by a boot from the guild if you can't take a joke.
This reminds me, are all raid loots thus far dropped, or is there also a system where everyone in the raid gets a certain type of "raid currency" that can be saved up to buy gear? And just because they don't have that system now doesn't mean it can't be done for expansions. EQ didn't add that stuff for 6 years. For anyone who actually knows EQ, think Phosphenes from Solteris.
