Sorry but you're flat wrong... I've played and been in competitive PVP and raiding guilds in every MMO since day one of UO..
And you can't differentiate a healer from a straight dps in a BG? Kind of curious how that ended up being the case, if you have that level of MMO experience?
and yes we tested this extensively and I was not the only one to notice that most DPS companions could chew through 2 mobs before the player could kill 1..
Soccerman was(still is?) one of the top dps players in the world.
I'm flat tired of the WoW raiding attitudes.. must have x DPS must have x achievement.. must have x rotation.. must have x gearscore..
That sounds like a PUG spam. If your guild is looking for that from a member, they aren't elitists, they are scrubs.
When guilds get so fucking competitive that friends get dumped from a raid beacsue another rogue was 3% better than him... and you can only have so many rogues per raid that's flat retarded..
And you would join a competitive guild why? If you want to be in a casual guild, be in a casual guild. It isn't complicated. If you want to be in a competitive guild, then that is what you end up with. Is that elitist? I certainly don't think so. One isn't better then the other, it is a different frame of mind towards the game. Join a guild that fits with what you want to do. Are you going to be part of a guild with world/server firsts and a casual attitude? No. If your goal is to have fun playing with your friends, why does that matter to you. If you are in a casual guild and they are doing that, they are bad and you should join a new guild, one that better suits your interests.
if SWTOR ever turns into this.. I will quit MMOs forever..
The problem is you. Don't play with people that are focused on speed and progression. It really is that simple. Find a laid back guild that is focused on having fun. Their were several thousand of them in WoW, I'm sure their will be in SWTOR too. I can assure you that there are going to be min/max raid based guilds in TOR, I'm already in one, but that doesn't mean that you have to play that way. Get in guild with people who are focused on having fun and enjoy yourself. If you don't want to be competitive, don't be. Noone is forcing you to.
I was in one of those elitist guilds at the time though. Let me tell you it was annoying as hell. The amount of ass you had to kiss to get gear. Even using the DKPS or point system that the guild would come up with didn't mean squat. Especially if you just joined.
Don't join a DKP guild if you don't like DKP. This isn't complicated.
This reminds me, are all raid loots thus far dropped, or is there also a system where everyone in the raid gets a certain type of "raid currency" that can be saved up to buy gear?
Yes, there are currencies that drop from raids as well as five mans. If you participate enough in raids, you will be able to get gear even if you don't win any rolls/have enough DKP.
Now, as for giving the tank every minor upgrade, I did see that a lot, but remember I played on FV, the all tradeable server. In my guilds, some of them had official procedures that when you got an upgrade, you turned in your old gear for disbursement to someone else and some guilds people did it voluntarily, but either way, I firmly believe, based on 5 years experience on that server, in the all-tradeable concept. It worked and it did not cause people to not start new toons. In fact, the knowledge that I could start a new toon and, once I managed to reach high level, not have to spend 2 years raiding on it to get equipped helped keep me making more toons, otherwise I would not.
You trying to make sure there are a plethora of gold farmers? Unfortunately, that is the problem with doing things this way. And it isn't one that I haven't seen a way to work around.
