You should be good with the level 5 upgrades, I was doing it with mostly level 4s. Do you have the power transfer module, or whatever it's called, from the fleet commendations vendor? Allows you to switch to shooting mode or shield mode with a button press; I find the shield mode very handy in tough missions as you can just push '2' and boost your shields quickly after a big fight.

Yep have those as well as the one that gives you 10 secs worth of jamming. I get hammered pretty hard right after doing the close fly-by of the star destroyer, and then getting swarmed by wave after wave of fighters. I'll have to keep at it I guess and figure out a strategy that works.

Yeah, at that point I hit the shield, do some barrel rolls, and just avoid fire for a bit so I don't blow up. I also just focus on the objective and ignore the bonus missions when I am having a tough time with it. I've only failed a space mission once and that was from not paying attention.

Finding groups for heroic quests is damn near impossible

If you do every side-quest and heroic you'll end up over-leveled even if you skip flashpoints and space. So if you want to keep the game challenging, just skip some quests and save them for when you level up a new alt.

Anyone post actual screenshots or videos from your own systems?

I was trying to watch videos on youtube and everything seems to be pretty old, like pre-release or looks like crap.

i can livestream it tonight if we run any hardmodes. i mean, i could even if i was just leveling an alt if you just want to see the game....

I think we should be offered a 1 time AC respec. Been level 50 IA OP healer for about a month and I literally hate it [I feel like I'm fighting an uphill battle with healing]. The DPS trees offer nothing I see as "fun" [I've had my fill of "rogue combat" from WoW]. Everyone seems to be enjoying SNIPER..and there's no way in hell I'm re-rolling another IA.

Other than that - BH story [just made it to the Imp Space station] is pretty cool - divided on taking the Mercenary [healing/dps] or Powertech [DPS] route [no desire to tank].

Sorcerer - I can see why there are a lot of these around - very fun class to play.

So I lost my damn mind, picked up the CE, and have been puttering around on Shii-Cho for the past few days with a now-L18 Jedi Consular named Jonse who looks kind of like Jesus (happy accident during the character creation process). Thus far I like the questing, and the combat's okay, but dear God in heaven do I hate the running--with everywhere being so wide open and spread out, and with so (surprisingly?) few players around, wandering around Coruscant is like wandering through a shopping mall on Monday morning before the stores open. (That said, it does sell the world...so to speak.) I'm assuming Taris will be just as vastly empty...has everybody already dinged L50 and is just hanging out somewhere?

On Tuesday everyone brings their 50s to the Great Ilum Zerg. The pileup of valor is irresistible.

You want a guild invite?

I'm at level 42, but I pretty much only play on the weekends. I still find most places quite populated on Shii-cho, but if you need a hand with anything from a Level 42 Trooper, I'm happy to help. Name's Taiho in game.

Edit: ^^ or that.

It's not a visible field, but you can also search the Who listing for online members of any guild.

1) Make sure that when you barrel roll that you are moving the mouse far to the left, right, up, down, etc... That will barrel roll in that direction. Important for avoidin some of those ion turrets.

2) Learn where the natural 'pauses' of action are. Consider these your second wind. If you don't shoot a few fighters down, no big deal. So anytime you know there is going to be a pause switch to your shields power converter and wait until it is back to full strength, then, swap back to increased blaster power.

3) IMO, the best time to use the jammer on that mission is about 15 seconds or so after you pass the star destroyer when the elite figher come outs. Save up a whole slavo of missiles for it, because it is going to take around 8 + blaster fire to take it out. Then continue shooting (even if shields are down) because you will rack up about 20-30 kills from the fighter swarm directly ahead. Keep the blasters firing and move the mouse around the general area where the swarm is.

Usually, if you keep shields up and barrel roll you can almost always keeps shields up. So if you met your objectives, or have plenty of time to meet them, just shield up and dodge for a while if your armor is in tuff shape.

This is just general advice, because I tried that mission with L3 upgrades and was dieing. But that was before I had the jammer. Didn't think it would be useful....

After you crest the asteroid and they come into view fire off four missiles at the cluster of fighters approaching far up ahead. After those are off pop your jammer and smoke out the rest of the fighter pack using blasters- when missiles come back up focus on the heavy, when they are gone go back to picking off the weaker targets so they don't overwhelm you(several waves come here, they don't stop for a bit). When missiles come back up again take down the heavy, if he is already down then make a choice, if you are hurting pop '2' barrel roll and circle the screen until your shields come back up firing missiles whenever you can. If you are looking good hammer as many as you can until you get your break.

I didn't see what level you were, but once you get 50 the EMP makes this entire sequence face roll.

Side note- anyone else played through the Rakghoul instance on heroic? Finally got around to it, shocked that it was dropping Columni gear. I really enjoyed the run, half guild/half pug(not one of those times with good puggers either ) seemed reasonable on the difficulty curve, maybe a bit too easy given the loot that was dropping(probably a roflstomp with a decent guild group or even solid pug).

Yep, done both. I think it's literally the same difficulty either way, or close

Really? Hmmm, went in with my assassin tank on normal mode, made it to the first six pull by myself(after you go through the gate). Figured heroic was a lot harder with how they were hitting the tank I was healing on my Sorcerer(although he was a Jug and they kind of suck at tanking large quantities of mobs, seem to be much better suited for taking one nasty mob).

EMP is at 45 and yes the EMP is pure awesomeness....

Doh, thanks for the correction, it's the big missiles that are at 50.

So I am terrible at making decisions and came here for some guidance on which class to roll between a Powertech and a Sith Sorcerer. I expect to be leveling up solo for the majority of my time playing. I'm tentatively open to casually raid and will probably PvP more (still nothing hardcore).

Last factor would be that I will probably roll the other class at a later date and level exclusively with another person (unknown class).

play each til you get them to fleet (around level 10). see which one you like playing the best, or which has the most engaging storyline. level that one first.

getting to level 10 wont take much time but will give you an idea of how each one works. so far i havent found a class i dont like to play. they are all fun and interesting on thier own merits.

anyways, just an idea.

Yes, but I found the big missiles are a pain and not worth it except for a mission where you are seeking the bonus for destroying the bridge on a SSD. In fact, I have lost missions because I left my Proton Torpedo's equipped and didn't focus on taking out the shield generators first, as I was tried to get all my other objectives. Then, if you wait too long, the last few passes by those shield generators are not long enough to get a lock with your Proton... Thus you lose...

Of course, it isn't that you cannot finish with them equipped, it is just a pain because if you have any left, certain hardpoints require you to use them instead of opting out and using only the regular missiles. Pretty frustrating that they cannot be toggled on/off (to my knowledge).

What role are you looking to play? Sorceror = dps/ heal, powertech = tank / dps.

I'm playing the Jedi Consular Sage equivalent (healer with some dps) and with the tanking companion it's fun.

Solo has been easier than playing as a Jedi Guardian tank. Last night I was breezing through level 25 missions on Tatoone with my level 24 character. Melee tanks are currently a little lower DPS and durability than they should be in TOR, in my (somewhat noobish) opinion.

i looooooooooooved the PT

You can easily solo everything up to L30 (I didn't bother playing past that) and you will start destroying people in PvP past L25.
