TBH, I ignore dialgoue in almost every RPG/MMO after a few minutes....so I am not really looking forward to this.

Yep. My experience is pretty much the same lately for some reason.

NPC: "Hello *insert name* my dog/cat/pet dragon/child/husband/wife has gone missing and I am distraught please find him/her/it for me. l seem to recall them...*Click*

Me:Click, Click, Click, Click, Click. Okie Journal says they were last seen at the bog/dungeon/woods where an unusually high population of ninjas/sith/orcs seem to hang out. Hmmmm.

Based on the dev video I don't know how you could expect anything else. Through the entire vid all I could think of is "this looks and plays exactly like WoW". Not really a good thing, IMO - just go play WoW if that's what you want.

Even IF it is just like WOW, the fact that it is Star Wars is why I would play it over WOW...

I don't see how it being like WoW would have any negative effect on the game. WoW isn't a bad game, despite how much people dislike it. Playing Rift it is amazing the amount of WoW hate people like to spew, but can't name something they like about the game that isn't similar than WoW.

I played WoW for quite a while and the fact that WoW + Star Wars = instant purchase from me.

From what I'm gathering TOR will have quests bestowed via dialogue rather than the normal "here's your quest" window.

There are some games with good quests and stories though. LOTRO springs to mind.

I've never played WoW. I would totally jump on this for many reasons over WoW--it's new and I don't have to deal with hordes of asshats pwning my noob-ass over and over, WoW looks silly to me--and it's Fucking STAR WARS!

anyway, it looks pretty sleek to me. I actually like MMO that allow you to go single player as easy as you please. I don't have the time to try and craft a random team together--one that actually works--to finish a long-ass mission.

I also assume that upon start, the world will be 95% Jedi. Smuggler/heal class, if that is the heal class--will be in high demand, as usual.

yeah, with MMOs, the stories are just plain garbage. just get on with it so I can go grab some loot. --especially if it's your 6th or 7th playthrough with a different class.

i assume this will be a subscription game?

DA2 is disappointing b/c it appears to be the anti-DAO. People's expectations totally reversed.

Star Wars has a longer history of extremely shitty-to mostly underwhelming games. It's hard to live down to such expectations. That being said--Bioware is responsible for the absolute best of those, and KOTOR was far, far from shitty.

While it wouldn't be fair to expect KOTOR out of this, I can see how failing on that experience would leave people disappointed.

But it comes bearing the KotOR name, and I will compare it to the KotOR 3 I so dearly wish for and it will come up short.

That is what makes a SW-based MMO so difficult. Everyone wants to be a jedi...it is a challenge to make other classes interesting and fun enough for people to choose them instead.

Jedi suck.. BH and Trooper 4 the wins.. look at that video that Jedi didnt even look that exciting..

There has been alot of work put into the other classes and they look to be alot of fun as well..

yeah, the smuggler looked pretty cool. I always default to the tank/warrior/bash stuff/wear heavy armor classes on first play throughs--but I always end up having much more fun, and greater use out of support/caster type classes.

We didn't really see much of the Jedi "tank," but that support Jedi looked pretty cool. Also, it doesn't have to be the funnest class--just running around with a lightsaber is fun enough. :awe:

it's not the same name at all--just the same time point, I guess, in "the lore" if you want to call it that.

you fail comparing it to KOTOR 3, because it should not be expected to be that.

Though--I really do wish there was a KotOR3...

Jedi Consular - Burst Melee DPS, Ranged DPS or Healer
Smuggler - Ranged DPS, Burst Ranged DPS or Healer
Trooper - Ranged DPS or Ranged Tank

Sith Warrior - Melee DPS or Tank
Sith Inquisitor - Burst Melee DPS, Ranged DPS or Healer

To take the sith inquisitor as an example:
I think they mean it is capable of doing a quick burst of DPS when something comes in close to them, but their primary sustained DPS comes from ranged attacks. Other than that, it would be terribly unbalanced especially when you include PvP in which burst DPS typically rules supreme.

KotOR MMO is usurping the power of KotOR 3. With KotOR MMO there will be no KotOR 3.

I'm not sure where exactly (I'll look), but I remember reading there is an expected October 2011 date set.

Between this, Skyrim, and all the other games coming out by the end of this year, I might not leave the house for months.

This is the official response, but it's pretty old and doesn't mean much.

‪Star Wars: The Old Republic is expected to launch this year after the close of EA's fiscal 2011 (which ends March 31st, 2011). Information on the release date and pre-order programs will be released as it becomes available.

I must say though this video has me super excited it looks rather polished. Way more than almost any MMO launched every can claim.

With how DA2 turned out, I'm weary of this game now.

I was initially excited about this game but with each Bioware release I can feel EA's grip on them getting tighter. I guess it's time to remember them for what they used to be instead.

That being said, I'll still probably buy SW:TOR on day one.

Very disappointed that they made an MMO instead of KOTOR 3. I have never played an MMO, and will not start now. I dont care how much content they say the game has. A good story that you can play alone, at your own pace, and have a definite ending is more important to me than how much content the game has.

However, the way DA2 turned out, maybe it is just as well that they did not make KOTOR 3, at least I can remember the first KOTOR as one of my favorite games ever, instead of a hollow shell of itself as KOTOR 3 might have been.

Bioware, how could you?? O yeah I forgot, you sold out to EA and turned KOTOR into what you hope will be a cash cow like WOW.
