So in a fit of boredom, I downloaded SWTOR as a FTP experience. I chose the Jedi Consular.

And gawd is it boring.

Combat is a joke, utterly unchallenging. You spend 90% of your time slogging your ass around and 10% of the time doing things. The story is just, well, silly.

I found WoW boring too, and this seems to take the most boring concepts of WoW and distill them into a Star Wars universe.

Although I probably qualify as a TOR apologist, I would note that the Consular story is probably one of the worst in the game.

Consensus seems to be that the storylines for the Sith Warrior and Imperial Agent are the most engaging while the Jedi Knight storyline most closely resembles a 'KOTOR' story.

Although changing the story probably won't remedy your dislike of the underlying game mechanics, it might be worth trying.

Agreed 100%. I did Consular and went Sage. A lot of the quests shared between the classes were BORING...the main questline was interesting but the gameplay sucked.

Yes, I agree. WoW does suck and is better left to the mouthbreathers.

I resubbed to SWTOR last week, decent time waster on down days. The class stories are good but too bad they are just going with Planet wide stories instead.

I started Agent but only made it to about 20, it's something I'd like to finish at some point in the future after hearing such good things about it.

I really enjoyed the Bounty Hunter line personally, the whole Great Hunt sequence was a lot of fun imo but it does kind of taper off after that. I felt like BH companions were especially good which really enhanced it.

ya, the companions do add some interesting decisions to make.

and same here, I felt the BH line was great up till the end of the Great Hunt, then it became "Okay, what's next now, oh, fight the Republic, sure"

I keep thinking I want to re-install and finish out my Sentinel leveling...but last time I did that (nearly a year ago), I was bummed by the cartel coin crud and the fact that I had to re-buy all of my previous content (yes--including my sentinel, which was ~level 41 or so)

That being said, I had good fun with it. My main was Sith Inquisitor > assassin which was both a blast to play and had a superb story. The Bounty Hunter was fun for a while, but midway through (level 35ish--just on or after Taris) it really started to drag and I hated the story. I never got the Jawa companion, though, so maybe that helped.

When I first tried a Jedi Knight, I thought the story was horrible and cloying, so I switched to Sith and was able to keep playing. Then realized that the only way to make the Jedi storyline engaging was to just be as evil as possible. That was fun.

daily HM and weekly raids were fun with my guild and randoms, and I was in a good guild for a little while, but the gear grind at the end is what really did it for me.

Well im back. Kind of interesting to see everything they have changed. Nice to see the servers have a decent population on them too!

Sadly no new expansion though. Have to resubscribe to get it for free. But can still level to 55 so might fart around a bit at least.

So I do have a Jedi Consular/Shadow.

It isn't bad per-se. I do feel like basically the Jedi Shadow is playing mental health therapist to the Jedi Masters in the story, which is interesting, slightly. I've always felt that the most interesting aspect of Star Wars was the mysteries of the force part, which is why I chose the class.

PVE kind of sucks, let's be honest, PVE in WOW was better for some reason, it seems, to me. PVP is surprisingly good in this game though. It seems like they really did a decent job building the classes first for PVP.

The F2P limitations are actually perfect for me. I mean, the only reason to sub is if you play the game over 20 hours a week, in which case you probably have some issues you need to iron out. F2P is just enough.

The biggest problem I have with the consular is that I really don't like the companions. The big lizard is slightly interesting, but should have come on at level 40. The sarcastic guy with the hologirl is slightly more tolerable...but eh, is again, kind of boring.

I wish that instead, I'd been paired with say, an impetus young Jedi Knight who continually leapt into battle and fucked shit up.

Might try smuggler next.

I think you'd have preferred Knight. Smuggler is amusing, though to get the full flavor you need to do heroics (Smuggler lines in multiplayer are the best).

Why would I have preferred Knight?

I also find the whole stealth-tank thing interesting. Not quite sure how the mechanics work out, as it appears to me that going down the...assassin tree or whatever still allows for decent tanking.

Your first companion is a DPS Jedi (Kira), and all your adventures are rather more obviously heroic.

Also, Knights get the most epic ending.

So, about the Consular, I do have to say that Balmorra is a big step up in terms of story and morally gray areas. I generally just choose whatever response I want to make without regard to light and dark side. Previously, I made light side decisions mostly, but on Balmorra I made mainly dark side decisions.

Also, on Balmorra you finally get a new companion to replace the annoying Therran.

I found the conversation options even more enjoyable after I disabled the lightside/darkside cues, stops it from 'tainting' your answers imo

Ooooo, thanks for the suggestion.

Still, generally light side choices are on 1-2 while dark side is always 3 on the wheel. Unless there's a way to scramble those.

There was even a major update 3.0.

A year and a half between posts, in the "Official thread" is just a sad shame.

I still play on an off occasionally, but seeing as I usually only have the weekend to play, I have not had much time lately. I am not one for the end-game grind, so once my main has done most of the solo, and maybe some minor group stuff I am pretty much done until the next "drop" either mini expac like Oricon or full xpac like SoR

Although with the 12xp for subs, i am trying some other characters but have not done much with them either.

I just resubscribed for a month to check out the 12xp bonus, but all my characters are still pretty much lowbies... don't have anyone near max level, although it'd be nice to change that.

Also don't forget that the 12x exp is only for the class story missions and not everything else. Also you may not need to worry about gear too much as with the class stories you now get more basic commendation for the reward and it costs less now for the gear.
