Will the auction house require you to go to it and physically stand in a booth(like EQ) or does it hold your items for you and sell 24/7?

It's not like the EQ bazaar. You list items and it keeps the items for you there at the AH while you log off, quest, etc.

thanks! I never sold much in EQ due to that, and not wanting to leave it running all night.

All this talk of items is making me wonder- is there any indication of item or coin loot for PvP servers?

most modern games these days do not allow item drops from PVP..
in some cases you do get coin (Rift)

but honorable kills in most games reward faction or pvp points that can be spent for PVP centric gear..
most of the modern MMOs are going this way..
however since PVP isnt even being tested right now in TOR we have no idea what they are going to do with it.

Instancing is the death of MMO gaming.. it ruins the community that makes an MMO what an MMO should be..

you want small private spaces play GW2 or something single player..

open cities have been done since UO and EQ days with great success..

I'm not sure we're talking about the same thing. This isn't 'instancing' in the way that Guild Wars is instanced where a private realm is created for every group. What happens is when an area reaches saturation in terms of network/server/client processing ability a second instance of the same area is created and players are funneled there until it reaches capacity, and so on. As the number of players goes down the instances are merged seamlessly and nobody ever knows the difference.

It reduces the load on both the players and the servers that comes from overcrowding. You can still chat with everyone in the world, so there is no break in the community, and your client only has to load the models and track data for the 500 (or whatever they determine the optimum size to be) other people in your instance instead of the 5000 on the server. To the player it makes no real difference because those 500 are plenty to fill out a bustling city so you never know the difference. Most MMOs have been doing this for a long time, having learned from WoW's launch what happens when the entire server tries to crowd into two zones with no mechanism to reduce the load. Some do it more cleanly/unobtrusively than others. TOR most certainly will too...

WoW was NOT a laggy mess.. peoples computers were a laggy mess..
if people would upgrade their PCs there would be no issues.
I played WoW since Alpha and never had the issues you are reporting..

It's not a client issue, it a server problem. The load on the client goes up linearly with the number of players. The load on the server goes up proportional to the square of the number of players. Having the fastest PC available at launch did not save you from World of Warcraft's lagginess or server queues.

and Ive been following TOR since it was announced and never seen anything discussed that collaborates that towns are going to be instanced.. where are you getting this information from?

As I said Arsinek confirmed it in this thread earlier.

Searching the web a little deeper I found this this video of Q&A session with BioWare at Comic-Con 2011. I don't have Flash enabled on my PC, but a post on the official forums gives this summary:

Sharding technology (multiple instances of a zone) has been confirmed to be in-game, however they assure us it will only be used very "sparingly". Upon the initial release they may use it to ensure server stability due to the large number of players logging on, but then after the population stabilizes they will try to use it less and less often or remove it entirely.

But it *is* instancing the GW handles it's cities. You could be in Lions Arch 1 (generally the trading instance) or you could be in LA 2-N (N being the amount of shards of Lions Arch necessary to meet the current population). Moving between them was as simple as using the drop down and picking a different "shard".

You arent very bright..

Server queues have nothing to do with laggyness.
Server queues had to do with too many MORON SHEEP trying to be on the same server.

I never had any issues with performance even on a "full" server but yes had queues because of too many subscribers and not enough space on some servers.. but there were and still are empty servers but people are cattle and always go to the most populated for some reasons..

The servers are NOT a bottleneck performance wise that is exactly why there are queues.
as each server is only allowed X amount of users to prevent bad performance on the server side..
this is 100% normal and exactly how we do things even in the corp world..

I'm sorry your computer sucks.. and cannot maintain a framerate in a raid or a city.. but to blame the server when millions of others are not having the issue is retarded.

That is a well known quote and only further reinforces EXACTLY what I've been saying.. even the devs dont like and dont want to use it.. however they said in VERY LIMITED use.. and will be toned down as the game stabilizes.. and on top of that NOWHERE does it mention TOWNS.

Is the digital deluxe edition worth it? I want to play some beta, and 20 bucks for some worthwhile ingame items, or no?

hard to say.. we havent seen what the items do yet..

I got that version..

but am thinking of buying the CE now locally.

Really, why CE?

When you have your own ship, can you go inside, and customize it at all?

any in game footage of the latest beta?

I dunno.. just kinda want it I guess.
I'm a huge SW fan.. and have all the WoW and Conan and Rift CEs

I just feel I'd love the book and music and the Jedi figure.

as well as the store and other CE exclusive items.

Yeah, that's kind of what I read.

not here maybe one of our testers can give us more info!

Id like the same info for sure!

I do know that yes you can go to your own ship and walk around.. your companions will be in there just as they were in ME.

That's the stupidest thing you've said yet. What other reason do they have from keeping too many "moron sheep" from loging on to one server other than keep the load down on that server?

That is a well known quote and only further reinforces EXACTLY what I've been saying.. even the devs dont like and dont want to use it.. however they said in VERY LIMITED use.. and will be toned down as the game stabilizes.. and on top of that NOWHERE does it mention TOWNS.

Liar. You said it would it work exactly like World of Warcraft. The quote confirms that it's going to work exactly like in City of Heroes and EverQuest II. Like in those games, like I said previously in this thread, once the initial rush is over it'll seldom be used.

I don't know what's got you so utterly delusional about this, but I can't wait until month or so after Star Wars: The Old Republic launches and you're screaming mad about how much it sucks. Probably over the stupidest and littlest of things too.

You really need to learn to read and comprehend what you read..

So many fucking morons around.

The devs flat said there they are going to use instancing at LAUNCH only to help get people thorough congested areas.. and WILL be turning it OFF when people get through there.

how is that hard to understand?

And it never ONCE mentioned doing it to cities which testers halve already confirmed is NOT phased.
This is NOT how COH and those other garbage games do it. they are flat instanced everywhere and you have to select which instance you are going to go into.
which is GARBAGE.

Are you fucking that dense about server loads?
I do this for a living it's called LOAD BALANCING.

each server is only allowed x amount of people.. when X amount of people are logged on the server is FULL..
now that number is a number that has been tested to NOT impact the server.

a FULL server will still PERFORM EXACTLY THE SAME FOR THOSE USERS CONNECTED.

and it does..
unless your POS computer cannot handle loading of all the TEXTURES from all the players in your area...

With high end machines even on a full server there are NO PERFORMANCE ISSUES.. even in places like Dalaran with a high end machine.. as the textures and players positioning and inventories and all other shared resources etc.. load flawlessly..

Ive seen the different in using a lower end laptop trying to enter Dalaran or IF or anywhere else vs a super high end game machine entering the same area..

it's NOT the server.
