I too have heard that this game pretty much ASSUMES you have played and MMO before and that there isn't too much tutorial involved...

...still won't keep me from playing though.

ToR is not a hard game to learn ,it borrows a lot from WoW but adds storyline etc..end of the day you'll find people that either love or hate the game, this goes for any MMORPG.

But not all of us have played WoW or any MMO for that matter. I have zero experience with them and only wanted to get into this game because of the story. They've already lost me as a customer assuming that I am a typical MMO player.

Maybe they won't lose many because of this, but I personally know many people that have never played an MMO, and will not be interested in this one either after I explain my Beta experience to them, or participate in their own.

So you guys who are Beta testing, anyone playing without an SSD drive?

I heard for MMOs SSD drives make quite a difference, any truth to this?

That doesn't make any sense. No it won't improve an MMO any more than it would any other video game.

Have you played KOTOR?.. if so then ToR will not be hard game to learn , however any game you must know the basics and ToR is not a hard game to learn regardless of if you have played MMORPG or not,my first MMORPG was SWG back in 2004/2005,personally SWG had a harder learning curve then ToR which is not hard at all,if you get stuck use chat, you have loads of MMORPG players online that will help you with questions and even quests etc....

When it goes live players will start at same level, they will learn the game by playing and grouping, asking questions etc....

Very true, I have found the people on the starter planets to be very helpful, everyone is friendly and have no problems answering questions. We are all in the beta together seems to be the current attitude when the game goes live I can see it shifting to the we are all starting this game together type of mindset. (which is good)

Whatever, I couldn't really figure out what my character was doing. KOTOR was awesome, this game was crap. Just glad I found out via the Beta test and didn't buy it.

So a 30Gb+ game with lots of loading WOULDNT be improved by instant seek times and 3x read speeds....lol wut?

After the initial load, my game never loaded. If you're that obsessed with saving a couple seconds maybe, I had zero load times on mine.

Did you listen to the story? it is pretty clear, on tython go to the Jedi temple after killing some mobs, on Ord Mantel as a trooper anyway go into the village kill some badies and high tail it out of there. If you actually listen to what you are being told then everything is clear cut and simple for the starter planets. There was almost no learning curve besides the more advanced stuff like switching world instances, party chat, private messages, upgrading items, etc. Basic game play however was easy....

That just shows how much you actually played the game, it sounds like it wasnt what you expected and you just wrote it off in the first 5 minutes.

I played it for a couple hours.

I guess MMO's will never be for me. I'm not going to "group up" and facebook my clan and read their twitter feeds.

I wanted this to be my foray into MMO's, I went in with an open mind. Its just not my cup of tea.

Its good I learned that now without spending a single cent.

I have a ventrillo room with a few of my college mates and some older guys (28-35) we dont know each other on FB we dont have twitters we just game together, we dick around, have a good time, and generally laugh at each other. I played 1-10 without grouping up. You are not willing to "group up" but you claim to have an open mind when coming into MMO's? What do you think MMO stands for?

I knew that a large element of MMO's was "grouping up" and there would be some things I couldn't do without it, that I just wouldn't do. I am not a social gamer, gaming to me is a solitary hobby.

I was expecting to just go through the game myself for the story aspect. I'm a star wars fan, and a huge fan of KOTOR, so I wanted to like this game. I am not an MMO fan, but thought if there was enough story and single player elements that I could enjoy it for a few months at least. I wasn't expecting to need other peoples help just to figure out how to play the damn thing or figure out what my character was doing half the time.

I'm over it. I guess I was foolish to think that any MMO would be for me, I knew I wouldn't like the MMO aspect, but I thought there was more to this one and it wasn't like the others. I didn't like it, no big deal. At least all the opening FMV's were fun to watch.

Ok,,

A) If you played a couple hours and only finished the first mission, then damn you were doing something wrong.

B)It tells you exactly what to do, there is a damn marker for EVERYTHING on the map. Opening your mission log explains exactly what phase of the quest you are in

C)Yes, you can play it alone without needing to 'group' up. You will be a tad underleveled in the top planets, but it is possible. No you don't have to join a damn guild, ask for a group in general chat. Form that, play the mission, leave group. While I never cared for this before, I've done this for all the group quests and most of the people are quite friendly and helpful, plus you get an assload of XP for doing those missions, and decent loot.

D)There is a tutorial, perhaps it was not in your build. For mine there is one that tells you everything from how to move, to how to accept and complete quests.

E)I dunno how you 'couldnt figure out what your character was doing', unless you are playing blind or something. You move, select target, hit appropriate 'skill' on your launch bar on the bottom, repeat as necessary.

-----

For one asking about SSD. I have played it on both. Yes an SSD does improve the load times a bit, this is a large game after all, it also helps a tad when starting conversations (bit more instant) with NPC however that is also server response time restricted. I personally did not feel it was worth it to take up over 20gb on my SSD, some may feel otherwise. Once you are on your planet the differences are much less noticeable.

----

Sunnyd - theres a new policy on Origin recently that makes some residents in certain states pay sales tax, it's pretty BS but whatever.

All of these reasons are what made me think he is full of crap and he either hasnt played or has played but didn't play long. OR he is somehow not reading ANYTHING or paying attention to ANY dialog. I joined another server two days ago to play with some buds of mine who play on that server. In 4 hours i got to level 10 (and no i hadn't played that story line yet)

Wow, you guys are upset that I didn't like the game and couldn't figure out a few things about it. Surely I would make it up that I beta tested it for maybe 2-3 hrs. And yea, I was wondering around a lot trying to figure out what to do, so added time but whatever.

Doesn't matter, I made it all up.

When I beta tested I just followed the storyline plus went exploring and picked up all possible quests, the game allows you to do what you want(within reason),you don't need to group unless you are doing a group instance, even those can be completed solo if you are high enough however you don't get XP if you are too high a level in those.

Checking your quests log and map shows you what to do and where to go so I was a bit confused when you said the game was not noob friendly, plus there was a help section too.
Did you remember to go to one of the npc trainers to improve your skills when you leveled up?

I'm just not sure what you was expecting since you can pretty much solo most of the game if you want and bypass those group quests/instances and do what you like ie go crafting via your companions ,go PvP,go exploring ,go up in space(later when you get your ship) or follow storyline so I don't know what more you was expecting?

Btw try a different class since some are more fun then others,I tried at least 4 classes.
You say you could not figure out a few things but what was really stopping you enjoying or playing the game?

No, I don't care if you didn't like it or not. But your rather vague statements make it seem like you've never played a video game before.

States are getting serious about internet sales tax. EA probably doesn't want to get into the mess that Amazon has all over the country.

People just like to judge others on how they play a game. You didn't like it? Then you're obviously doing it wrong. You took how long to beat it? Then you didn't do it right. You set up your character this way? That's not even close to right, it's like you didn't even read a guide lol wut?

Just play the game and stab the haters in the face with a lightsaber.
