The EU was never accepted as canon for the Star Wars universe, there's really no point in quoting any of it since Lucas made it a point to disregard it. EU is great fanfic but that just leaves the developers to have just as much creativity in what they do with the lore.

Lucas says whatever he wants at the time is canon. Look at The Force Unleashed. That garbage story is canon.

There is nothing stupider in geekdom than the idea of 'canon.' The Star Wars, DC comics, marvel comics, & star trek universes are not real. There is no history to discover. It's all just a collection of stories. Some are good, some suck. It all depends on the particular story.

The only legitimate response to a geek with a complaint about canon is a swift, hard kick to the nads.

Very true, but some people like our stories, even fiction, to be coherent. Nothing ruins a story faster than holes in the plot, continuity problems, and chronological problems. Of course there are going to usually be a few of these problems, but how glaringly they distract for the story over all is what makes a difference. Some massive nerds go overboard and get upset if a colored diode is a different color from one episode to the next on a prop in the background. People that rage over stupid shit like that deserve the crap kicked out of them.

to me, the colored diode from one shot to the next is analogous to the star wars universe from one novel written by a nerd to some other star wars novel written by another nerd. whether or not Lucas gives his stamp of approval or not, it just shouldn't fucking matter.

I seem to remember Bobba Fett has come back to life countless times, and at some point...Leia was married to Lando? who gives a shit.

besides--as much venom and hate the fan community has towards Lucas for "destroying their lives by making 3 shitty prequels," I wonder why they are so concerned with what he deems as canon?

Good points...

People act like Star Wars is a 2nd Bible...

I love the stories but don't base my life on it...

That said, I WILL be spending lots of time in SWTOR...

This thread and the BF3 Sticky give me an idea. Would a sticky thread that provides links and up-to-date release date info for all the known upcoming/in-development MMOs be useful?

Pfft. Battlefield 3 an MMO?

That is SO not canon.

No, I didn't mean it was an MMO, simply that it was stickied as an informative post for an upcoming game. This thread is the same thing and yet it isn't stickied. Now, we can't have stickies for EVERY MMO that's upcoming, so merging the two ideas together, I was thinking it would be cool to have a sticky with, in the format of the BF3 thread, the first few posts in it would contain links to info about upcoming MMOs and more importantly, the latest release date info.

I can't wait for this game to come out and hopefully dethrone wow. Rant incoming.

I've played wow on and off for years and to me wow has become less about fun and more about stupid crap like having to do a set dps rotation, using potions at the right time and doing "x" amount of dps in a raid. Being successful in raids means having good logs on worldoflogs.

I mean really, when did it become this stupid to just enjoy a game? Having to "research" and go to websites like elitistjerks to study.

To me wow died a long time ago when it became less about fun and more about studying dps theorycrafting and watching videos for pve and pvp. The game has degraded into nothing more than a glorified chat box in between studying for raids and arena.

Logged into WoW the other night.. blizz sent me 2 7 day passes..

the patch took longer to install that it took for me to say F*** this POS..

The entire economy is shot.. 30k-90k and up seem to be the average prices for lame crap or mats on the AHs..
Same people doing the same crappy content and PVP..
same people crying about don't bother applying to raid unless you have an 99999999 gearscore or better.. or 9999999 resilience or better for PVP..

I took my DK and Rogue out for a bit and within 10 mins was bored to tears..
cancelled my accounts again and went back to Rift.

I wonder if Blizz's new MMO is an attempt to address people with these thoughts. Its supposed to be a "casual" MMO.

So wait...because its not fun to you, its "stupid crap"? Lots of people have a good time in WoW still. There are obviously people that like the theory crafting and the practicing dps rotations. You aren't going to excel at something if you don't practice or put time into it. If you aren't having fun, don't play, but don't expect to be able to make a general statement about the game like that.

I'm really confused by this especially since you play Rift. Would you take a fresh 50 tank with only quest gear to a T2 or raid in Rift? Why should I or others carry you through stuff just because you are emo and took a break from the game?

WoW isn't casual? Or is the difference that makes it casual mean that it just won't have high end raiding?

WoW is an example in Webster's when you look up casual. Some of you obviously didn't put in the time in classic to know what real purples feel like.

Like all the 6/7 heroic firelands guilds raiding until 1-2am every night for 5 days a week right?

I know the scene, my old guild finished level 60 naxx us 6th (quite an accomplishment if you remember back to those times) and sunwell us 16th. It was fun then, but its not as fresh and exiting now. The content is so stale and rehashed (ZG and ZA), the high end raiding/arena community are arrogant pricks that do nothing but study videos and worldoflogs, and there's nothing to do except chat in org/stormwind while you're in que for a bg or dungeon. Everything is automated now, none of the trademark things that should exist in an rpg (world exploration, etc) exist at max level. You just sit in que and wait for a dungeon or pvp. Or you could level an alt since there's hardly anything to do at max level except (again) sitting in a que waiting to pvp or do your 300th run of super simplified ZG/ZA.

Looks like i'm not alone in my opinion since wow lost nearly 1 million subs in the past 8 months.

Anyway, i'm done with the tangent. I have high hopes for SWTOR and hope it puts a serious dent into wow subs.

Lol. I guess.

So if you think WoW is casual and Blizz apparently doesnt, what do you think Titan will be?

I think something important to realize is that hardcore vs casual can mean several different things to different people. Some people think that hardcore simply means you play 24 hours a day, and casual you play 5 hours a week max, and that it has nothing to do with the ambient difficult of the game. Others think difficulty(ie, the "having to study for raids) is what matters, and still others probably think that simply raiding or not is what makes it casual(ie, you can play 24 hours a day but unless you actually raid you aren't hardcore).

sure I would... and we do all the time..
why do you have to have BETTER gear than the content you are raiding to get a spot?

The point of doing the content is to get geared up not to farm it in 2 secs with people ridiculously past the gear you can even acquire in the content.. just to burn the gear and disenchant..
the problem with WoW asshats is they want ridiculously over geared people to do trivial stuff. You should not need a T50 gearscore to go raid T10 content. not to mention the old catch 22 "must have GS6000+ and have all achievements please link.." So how are you supposed to get those achievements and the gear if no one wants to take you to these places to gear up.. If you are geared from heroics you are ready for the first stage of raiding.. but even for that they want ridiculous scores that you cannot get unless you get into that content..

that's the problem with WoW..

and again sure we take whomever in Rift.. since we are all friends and family we help each other instead of replacing someone because they may not have the gearscore.
or the knowledge..

Seriously agree. What tipped the scale for me was killing Onyxia for the third time.
