Chiefs had a very weak schedule compared to Seattle. Tough to compare their undefeated season, at that time, to Seattle's 2-loss season, at that time. Seattle is a much better team.

Heh, exactly. Chargers were also inconsistent as shit this year. Could be that they simply caught Denver sleeping in that regular season game, but SD was also playing their best ball in that game. They played ball-control all the way. Then, of course, SD got smoked in the next matchup.

I would be a bit worried a little bit about the Chargers game two weeks earlier if I were the Broncos. They had plenty of chances to put the Chargers away but made mistakes that let them stick around. If it weren't for the Chargers blowing the coverage on 3rd and 17, I think Rivers would have tied the game since the Chargers would have had the ball at about midfield with over 2 minutes and two timeouts left. The Chargers had five weeks of playing elimination football and didn't have Ryan Matthews. I think the Broncos dodged a bullet as it got really close to an epic, playoff loss. Just imagine what the media would have been saying about Manning if the Chargers had won the game in overtime.

I am expecting the Broncos to win because they are still dominating in total offense. They just need to be really careful about making mistakes that can keep the Seahawks in the game.

You're welcome. I'm always happy for someone to share in my Chargers misery. At least our kicker didn't miss a field goal to lose the game as that seems to be typically how the Chargers lose a playoff game. In this game, both the Chargers and the Broncos missed a mid-game field goal that basically canceled each other out although the Chargers definitely got a bigger momentum swing from the Broncos missed field goal. It was 17-0 when the Broncos missed that field goal near the end of the 3rd quarter. The Chargers finally gave up trying to run the ball and let Rivers be Rivers and he got damn close to pulling off a massive upset.

I was defending Rivers last year when everyone was dumping on him. He was forced to carry the team week after week so it's understandable that he was going to make mistakes. With the success of Matthews and Allen this year, Rivers didn't have to be the one to always save the day and make risking throws. The people claiming Rivers was done last year seemed to be the annoying "#bolo" people this year. Of course, to expect San Diego to be anything but a fair weather sports city is just frustrating.

I can't wait for Seattle to break #18's neck again. I seriously hate it and can't wait for its overrated career to be over. It cannot win when it counts.

I hate to break this to you 'ya but it counted last week and he had one heck of a game, even more so considering he was facing the one coach that can actually manage to plan well for him. We'll see though, NE never got any pressure on PM but then again even if they did the ball got out so quick it wouldn't have mattered. Seattle has a much better secondary than NE or SD so it should make for a good game, Denver's D has been on/off all season but stepped up big time against NE, they need that again in the SB, take away Lynch and make Wilson beat them, (if he can)..

Didn't know Tom Brady had an account on here.

I'm not a 49ers fan.

I have to explain my NFL "allegiances" all the time, which I guess makes sense. I grew up in college sports environment, so professional allegiances are really transitory, for the most part...but this is the method that works for me when it comes to the pros.

I do have a team. That team is the Redskins. I grew up in NC, and that was our team of birth. No, I do not simply pull for Carolina when they happen to show up. They are not my team and I do not abandon my team simply because a new one farts out of thin air. As for Carolina...I am "sympathetic to their cause," but I really don't give a tit about them.

After my team, allegiances go to players, for the most part, because it keeps me interested. I do this by college, primarily, and since NC State is my team--my real team, and institution, that takes precedence over all, this is what I go by.

So, here is how it works:

Skins
----
The Rams became my #2 team the day they drafted Torrey Holt (hey, so what if they won the Super Bowl that year? I was already a fan of the 3-13 team on draft day! ). I stopped caring about the Rams when Holt was done.

The Chargers are my current #2, because of Rivers--hey so what if they were perennial shit, then suddenly became good?

Then, I sympathize with teams where I've lived, particularly if they are entertaining, or at least a great environment for the game. I like the Bears, because 5 years in Chicago. It's also a great place to be a football fan.

I like the Niners, because when Harbaugh showed up (2 years after I moved here), they became a fun team to watch. No more need for me to mock them. But I pulled for them in those Singletary years if for no other reason than I was tired of being stuck with shitty football options.

Anyway, I'm a Russell Wilson fan. I was pulling for Seattle over SF the other week (...it was difficult, but I kept my composure at the bar and came away uninjured). Still, I would be happy to be pulling for SF this week, as well. I wouldn't say I'm a Seattle fan, but I've always liked some of their teams. I know some Seattle fans so I've paid more attention to them over the years that I otherwise would have. I do hate Carrol, though. I hate him to hell.

This week? 100% Russell Wilson to win the super bowl.

Wow, you need to see like a sports psychologist or something.

In seriousness, I do now recall reading a post of yours similar to this, and knew about your NC roots. Didn't that douchebag waste of a first round pick Koren Robinson play at NC State? Or was it SC?

Obviously I am a homer, but Russell Wilson just seems like the type of player AND person that anyone could root for, unless their team is playing them of course.

If you haven't seen Deion Sanders interview of Marshawn Lynch at the Media Day event, you should keep an eye out for it. Lynch left the main area after lasting just 6 minutes. The broadcasters thought he left the building and were discussing possible fines. Turns out he was still on the floor, just somewhat disguised and kinda hiding, if that is possible with all the cameras there. Anyway, what was interesting was the words exchanged.

yeah. I actually brought it up in the other playoff thread, in response to your trying to remember some scrub waste of a WO that Seattle drafted #6. ...yeah. that was NC State. One of those moments where I first found reason to follow Seattle, but Robinson left 2 years early and was a bit of a dick, anyway. He was no Torrey fucking Holt, that's for sure. Sucks, too, because he left after Rivers' first season. Imagine that team with Rivers and Robinson on offense for 3 years, and Super Mario Williams destroying QBs on the other end of the ball.

But my habits regarding sports teams, I feel, allow me to enjoy the game more. I don't get as caught up in wins and losses and certainly do not get emotionally tied up in the team, as I used to.

Indeed. He is very media shy, and I have posted before about some possible reasons why. Anyone who watches that interview will probably respect the dude just a little bit more. The tweets coming out during and after were pretty amazing, there was an incredible amount of support for him.

I can see why you would feel that way, and it makes a hell of a lot of sense. Smart, you get to enjoy sports but not get so damned wrapped up in it like so many.

As a Seahawks fan, I know these past weeks would have been a hell of a lot different for me say 20 years ago. More intense, less enjoyment. We're like scotch dude.

I agree with what Marshall Faulk said afterwards. Some guys just don't like to talk and don't like the camera, and they shouldn't be forced to deal with the media if they don't want to. It's stupid they even have fines for not talking to the media.

Pretty much this.

I disagree they should force them to participate in media day. Half of them are retard strong with the IQ of a donut. Unless there are some call outs or something, no reason for 99% of them to open their mouths. Now, if we started letting them all do the WWE thing and do some Sherman interviews, I'd be much more interested in what any of them had to say.

EDIT: I always forget it's WWE now, not WWF...

Yeah, but the product that we're interested in consuming is the game, not the bullshit interviews. Literally no one on Earth cares about a poorly-spoken athlete giving a bunch of meaningless platitudes as answers to stupid questions. "How do you think you'll slow their passing game?" "Well, God is great, and I've got my teammates behind me, and coach believes in us, and we know we can win." Nobody gives a shit. The only time we EVER care is when someone goes all Richard Sherman and everyone acts horrified that competitive people would yell competitive things at the end of a competition about their competitors.

I enjoy sports media. I HATE athlete interviews. The only good ones are Sherman (talking shit), Kobe (talking shit) and Popovich (one word answers). The rest of them are useless and should be done away with completely.

It's a business. Media interviews drum up more interest which drives revenues which pays them more money. So it's a written league policy. If enough players are bothered by it then they should make sure their union brings that up in the next CBA talks.

The only reason I even knew about the events of media day for the Superbowl (which I am actually interested in watching) is because of the Lynch / Sanders interview. Nobody in the sports world actually gives a shit what they say at media day. It is the same, tired garbage questions with the same canned, non answers.
