Fries and drinks have very low cost margin. It would cost you nothing to give them out with the new burgers.
They should have taken the best selling burger and and the "new" burger and priced them the same. Then slap a "Limited time offer only" while advertising getting "More for less". I don't know if they got to choose at what price the burger sells for though.
How is that a promotion ?
The key is
1) To draw as many people into the restaurant as you can
2) To Sell as many of the burgers as you can with the highest selling point possible.
So lets say their Junior Whopper is their best burger and it sells for $1, how are you going to win selling that burger for $1 even though it will draw people in.
Did you know a Soda and Fries will cost on average of $.11 and .$20 respectively ??
You can sell any of those burger for $3.50 and that would not cut much into your profit margin.
All those people walking by hungry, where else can they get a full MEAL w/ a main size burger for $3.50 ??
Remember, this is to sell as many of the NEW burgers as possible.....not overall sales.
