Phelps with his first gold and a WR too
keep hearing about how he's improved so much on all of his supposed weaknesses...really think he's pretty much a lock for 8 golds barring some fluke disqualifications...
A few are relays, can't win them all if his teammates don't perform.
yeah, but the relay's he's in have been dominated by Americans as is, and I'd actually say he's good enough to make up for some mediocre teammates as long as he has one or two others that are decent...
You're right though, in 2007 he only won 7 gold medals in the world championships because a teammate had a false start in the 4x100 relay and disqualified the team...

Anyone know what's up with that black cover like thing on walsh's shoulder?
Some sort of tape meant to improve circulation and add a little bit of support/protection as she's had a couple surgeries in the past on that shoulder. Commentators were saying that its probably better now than in 2004 but the tape is just precautionary.

So why are Koreans so damn good at archery?
Why are they so damn good at StarCraft?
Just a cultural thing...same reason why the USA is generally considered hands down the best in basket ball...
The more a people focus and support a particular sport, then the better they'll perform at it. Same holds true for poor performance. The USA in soccer for instance - we suck at it because we don't really care, heck, we even call it soccer instead of football, because that's what we call our most beloved sport...which we would absolutely dominate in national competition if there ever was such a thing.
