BEIJING (AP) - Bela Karolyi seethed as he watched the Chinese women compete Sunday.

Not because of how good they were in qualifications, finishing 1.475 points ahead of the American team that often trains at his Texas ranch. What bothered the most famous man in gymnastics was "China's arrogance" for using girls he wasn't even sure were teenagers yet.

"They are using half-people," Karolyi said. "One of the biggest frustrations is, what arrogance. These people think we are stupid.

"We are in the business of gymnastics and we know what a kid of 14 or 15 or 16 looks like. You don't have to be a gymnastics coach to know what they look like at 16."

He's just angry that short, young, Chinese, athletes are beating American Athletes.

Doubtful since he is in favor of abolishing the rule and saying that China would win regardless of whether they used girls over or under the age limit.

Hmm, but they why is he complaining? Is it just because China is circumventing the rule?

And I think given his background he'd know how totalitarian governments cheat in events like these. Obviously American athletes aren't above cheating either, but a fool whose ego causes them to risk shaming their country is one thing, and state-sanctioned rule breaking is another. If you think every girl on the Chinese gymnastics team is 16+ I have a bridge I'd like to sell you.

Haha, they're talking about it now during the Chinese team's quals. Yeah, sure they're 16...

If you were obeying a rule, even if you didn't agree with it, while someone you were competing against was breaking that rule....wouldn't you complain?

Yea, it seems that he thinks they are at least.

I thought it was interesting that since some of them are so light, they have a hard time compressing the springboard on vault or whatever its called.

Heh...my wife and are watching them do the uneven bars with our almost 3-year old daughter.

wife: Karli, do you want to do that?
Karli: Yeah!
wife: Mommy's looking to sign you up for gymnastics and dance
me: We could just move to China. They could have her trained in no time.
wife: I don't think we'd fit in very well there.
me: They could have her competing in the next Olympics!

Does anyone know why there's an age rule? It seem kind of weird when there's a 14 year old boy diving for the UK.

The last two US women on the beam got robbed on their scores - 9.0 execution??? The last one was flawless. Plus they're hotter than hell, so give them a few tenths for that.

I know! That's what Bella Karoli said when Costas interviewed him!
