Lawls, they keep calling this filthy air "mist".
Just heard on ESPN that four US olympians got a sort of reprimand for wearing pollution masks. Seems pretty stupid because many Chinese themselves wear those same masks. I guess it's seen as making a statement; but what's wrong with making a statement when it's already a well established truth?
Bad PR and rude to the host. They're supposed to hack their lungs up like men and not cry about it

I frankly think that with the pollution issue being tossed around for a while, any athletes regardless of any country should have had enough time to decide whether they would want to participate in the Olympics.
If they decided that they would join then yes, they should expect their lungs to be hacked up and not cry about it.
I wouldn't expect that at all. China knows they have a major pollution issue and preventing athletes from protecting themselves because they want to pretend it's not really a problem seems ridiculous.

Is this compelling, or should I just sign up for DIRECTV real quickly?

If the athletes were wearing the masks inside the airport where no smokestacks are in operation, it's obviously a PR stunt. Beijing's new international terminal rivals the best in the world if I'm not mistaken. According to Wikipedia, Terminal 3 is bigger than all of London's Heathrow Airport.

I've been to China and spent a couple of months there. Many Chinese wear masks, often makeshift masks made from cloth, indoors too when the pollution is particularly bad. No doubt the air conditioning systems remove most of the "mist" but it doesn't remove it all. On really bad days the air pollution can literally make you gag and choke. It's that nasty.

Rubbish, it's just a big of fog, think of a light haze over a New England field on a fall morning, that's all it is.

Depends where you are. If you have Satellite or are in China, you can stream olympics live 24/7 on CCTV channels. If in the US you need to go to www.nbcolympics.com and stream it from there. However, nbcolympics does not show all of the games like the Chinese CCTV.

The 3rd option regardless where you live is to download ppstream and stream it off the olympic channel, but the program is in Chinese so you gotta figure your way around it.

What CCTV channel do you get from your satellite? CCTV4 and the other international stations that you normally get from a satellite do not have the rights to broadcast the Olympics.

Both soccer games I've watched haven't had any commentary, and it doesn't support full screen, but otherwise have been very good. The lack of commentary is likely because they weren't televised. When I watched the olympic trials, they had the normal commentary.

I've heard they won't show the stuff that's on the main NBC channel until after it's been on TV. Not sure about the other channels.

LIVE WORKING P2P ONLINE STREAMING CCTV COVERAGE:

TvAnts TvAnts TvAnts TvAnts TvAnts

Search for CCTV and let it play. You have to be patient though since it took me a few minutes to get it to smoothly play after lots of buffering.

Enjoy!

I caught the first half of the USA mens basketball game against Australia and it was ugly. It looked like they had no plays with everyone just jacking up long range shots. I guess NBA players have to adjust quite a bit since there is no such thing as illegal defence in FIBA rules.

Really? It doesn't seem that bad to me. There's an "HD" CCTV5 channel that I"m watching and it's ok full screen. It's not real HD But it's better quality than the normal channels.

Good quality in the Enhanced player. PIP with 4 streams is gimicky though as the windows are too small. But if NBCOlympics.com is not showing the Opening Ceremony or any major events live, then what's the point.

Is it just me who always struggles with TvAnts? I've used myp2p.eu to find live streams and half the times, the URL seems incorrect. The other half of the time the quality or performance sucks. Someone please PM me a good tvants URL within the next couple hours.

LongCoolMother, I'm sure NBC will broadcast in HD. You do have a color TV, right?

Engadget has a pretty comprehensive list of Olympics + HDTV

Including other countries' viewing websites.

I'm using tvants and CCTV1 is the first channel on the list, the one with most users. Good quality too. I have it hooked up to my 20" crt, looks just as good as any SD broadcast. The ceremony is almost over though. Some pretty dramatic fireworks!

Yea I heard you guys aren't getting much coverage - maybe because the USA team is not as strong as it has been? Or maybe they don't want to give too much publicity to China? It's been all over the media here for weeks already, and when the games start, we can watch any event live on an interactive digital service.

That lighting of the torch was fucking amazing by the way.
