Are you guys rooted and using the latest radio, or tried different ones? Probably has a lot to do with location, but the only time I ever lose 4G is when I go into the metal enclosures at work and shut the door. I never use wifi or 3G either though, LTE 24/7.

im actulaly running unrooted after having run the rooted for several months.

the latest semi official cyanogen build still crahes with some things. like google talk has constant FCs.

as much as people love cyanogen mod and i'm thankful for them with some of the other phones i've had that never had support (like the g1 past 1.6 etc), these roms are a lot flakier than some of the carrier tested images. like the current 2.3.4 htc sense build seems very solid, and it feels faster than CM 7.1.1 .

i suppose for me CM is only worth it if you really hate the skin and if your phone is not up to the current version of android. once HTC had gingerbread i went back to stock as CM7.1.1 for tbolt i still don't think is nearly as solid. you get weird freezes sometimes it doesnt reboot right, etc.

When you installed CM, you did a full cache/data wipe right? I haven't experienced any of these issues, Gtalk has never force closed, haven't had an app crash since early alpha OMFGB builds, and never get weird freezes.

Haven't tried the stock HTC/Vz builds, but the Froyo Sense builds were slow and stuttery, had lousy Gallery/Mail apps, and were riddled with bloat.

Probably a moot point though, the Tbolt had a short lifespan, and with craptastic support from Verizon, I think a lot of people are going to be switching to the Gnex/RAZR.

Never tried CM. I don't really like to experiment too much, as long as it works to my liking I'm happy. I've only tried a couple roms both coming from bamf. They've been rock solid for me. The froyo one had some minor problems with gps taking a couple minutes to lock on, and Google maps draining my battery sometimes when not in use. The latest GB one has resolved these entirely though. No freezes, no issues.

definitely the tbolt really has made me lose some faith in htc.

i mean somehow now htc makes thicker phones, that have smaller batteries, and they are not doing such a great job supporting it.

i did do a full wipe etc. i dont know a lot of people had weird problems with gps locks, and BT on the CM builds too. like i know i got at a point where navigation wouldnt work, and for some wierd reason the only way to fix it was to install a bamf build have navi lock, then install a CM build and it would work again (they still havent figured out a real fix).

but yeah im probably going nexus. the razr i'm sure will be a fine phone, but i dont caer about the super thinness THAT much, and at that rate its basically just a bionic .

hell i've even debated getting a bionic as from a cost standpoint its just really cheap online (ebay has a lot of them for $300-350 ish outright for some reason)

I get a day of heavy use on cm7 easily. Two days plus if I use extended battery.

Bionics are cheap because Moto replaced them with the Razr so fast, so people want to drop them quickly.

That GPS lock issue stems from how HTC's GPS works with the eMMC and Sense. Its afflicted all Sense phones, to varying degrees. And it affects all Source built ROMs on the Tbolt, not just CM. I had to do it as well, but it is a one-off thing at least.

And yes, I'm going to pick up a Nexus within a month of its release. HTC can suck one.

i'm using es file explorer, i have root explorer and mount file system both enabled.

i wanted to prevent the ota update and just manually flash the new radio found here

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1401959

i just picked up the rezound battery, supposed to give a good 4hours additional compared to stock.

i also just flashed the 230 release of virus's eternity rom, super smooth and fast, i should have done this sooner, not sure why i waited so long.

They are compatible? Same battery covers and whatnot?

I need to toss my Tbolt up on Swappa, sell it off.

yep fits with same battery cover, a lot of people have changed over for the extra juice.
this is a non brainer as i didnt want an extended as it would be to bulky.

how much were you looking to get for the tbolt? i wanted one to use as a tester for roms/etc.

I'm looking at possibly getting rid of my Droid X for a Thunderbolt. I'm not even close to eligible for an upgrade w/ Verizon, but I cannot hold out with this horrible X. Thoughts on getting a Tbolt?

Thanks

I personally would not. Once the Nexus hit the scene, the majority of ROM development on the Tbolt stopped. I think you can do better. Swappa has a couple Charges under 200 right now, if you want 4G. I'd avoid the first gen VZW LTE phones though, they were all huge heavy tanks with horrendous battery life. The Tbolt wouldn't even be much of an upgrade vs the X1 in terms of CPU/GPU. Slightly more RAM though.

Don't do it. Look for another phone.

I might have to do that, I barely make it through a school day, about eight hours.

i wouldn't do it, but if it was down to a charge or a tbolt i'd take the tbolt.

samsung is never going to support the charge again, but there is still some hope for HTC putting ICS on the bolt. plus there is much better aftermarket support for the bolt.

True. I made that same choice when I bought mine, but given the newer phones out, I'd look elsewhere.

Stab yourself in the eye with a sharp salad fork, then realize you'd be doing that by attempting to use a ThunderBolt.

The problem is that the TB is essentially a 4G LTE modem slapped onto a phone. If you want that, it's great, leave it plugged in and I hope you're in an area with a good LTE signal, frankly, it kicks ass for just that, except you cant even use the kickstand when you have it plugged in because for sme dumb ass reason, the put the plug on the side that should sit flat on the table when you use the kickstand.

Too many minuses to use as a primary phone though.

I could deal with the crap battery life with the massive extended battery because of the speeds, but what killed it for me was the radios (it has 2 radios) would hand off from 3G to 4G when you went into an area with poor reception, or handing off from 3G to 4G.

Some had good luck with turning the radios off and on, I didn;t and frequently had to do a hot reset to get any signal.

Dunno what's so bad about the X, but IMHO, it's a better phone than the TB.

Meh, I use 4G 24/7 and my battery usually lasts a good 24 hours with moderate use throughout the day.

The trick is the screen brightness, I use like 15% most of the time, which is perfectly visible indoors. When you blast the brightness up to view the screen outdoors, battery life plummets.

Bull. Best I ever managed with normal use was ~20 hours, and on 3G. Even in areas with strong 4G, it'd still be under 10hrs using it. But, I dumped it before the latest radios were available . . .MR4?

Maybe, or MR3. I had great battery life even on the stock radio though.

I think I took this on stock radio. Was a while ago. This was 4G only, light use, though I am rooted running different roms. I never saw how bad it was stock cause I rooted and flashed before even using the phone:

Did notice when I went down to San Diego for a few days, it absolutely raped my battery on 4G. In LA, I never have a problem.

That's why I'm not getting the GNex. TBolt is still pretty damn good for me, will wait for something that is a more substantial upgrade. Hopefully the Galaxy Journal.
