The Gingerbread update really fixed a lot of the gripes I had with this phone, and caused me to unroot and go back to using 'stock'. For starters, the inconsistent lag is gone - I have 5 home screens full of widgets and shortcuts, and navigation is silky-smooth with no stuttering. I've also noticed an improvement in battery life, earning me what it feels like an extra hour of life over Froyo. I also don't notice the hiss as much when I'm making calls.
Had this phone launched with Gingerbread much, much earlier in it's life, it would not have gotten such a tarnished reputation. I don't think the Thunderbolt was ever a bad phone, but it was obvious that HTC stumbled out the gate when it came to getting things right with this phone. The Gingerbread update is enough for me to forgive HTC for some of it's mistakes. As it stands, if the Galaxy Nexus would have never been announced for Verizon, the Rezound would have been my next upgrade after the Thunderbolt.
Sorry HTC.
