Cullen is Prime. I'm glad that he signed on for the movie. Prime is not the same without that voice.

I was a little disappointed to hear that Frank Welker wouldn't be Megatron, but the new voice fits the new design better than the old voice. Although as much as they had to work on Hugo's voice to get it to sound like that, Welker could have probably done it.</end quote></div>
While I've heard it's not very good, remember the game based on the movie has Welker doing the voice-acting for Megatron, at least.

The game is utter crap though. Avoid it unless you are the most ardent fan who has to play it no matter what.

***SPOILER FREE ASSESSMENT***

Pros:
*CGI was on another level. It's jaw droppingly good, somewhere between what you felt when watching The Matrix and Jurassic Park.
*Shia did a great job as Sam.
*Megan Fox is hot, and can act.
*Badass factor is high; Bay does a good job incorporating sweet weaponry (both human and alien).
*Action overload. I didn't even have time to process fight scenes as they happened. This lends itself to second viewings.
*Good amount of humor.

Cons:
*Humor was mostly mainstream.
*Bay included his signature cheesy slow-motion scenes.
*Transformers dialog could have been a little better in writing and execution.
*Some characters were over the top; Anthony Anderson and John Turturro come to mind.

One last thing: Starscream rocks; there is nothing cooler than a transforming F-22 Raptor. We need to see more of him (in the sequel perhaps).

7/10 for me- even with the crowd on "opening" (7/2) night.

Maybe it was the high expectations, or that I had seen Live Free or Die Hard the day before. Shia was awesome as Sam, Megan Fox was hotter than the movie itself. Some painfully predictable humor/cheesiness. Random characters/scenes that had nothing to do with the plot, etc. I don't know if this is really a spoiler or not, but the whole S7 thing turned me off. Just didn't play the part well.

All in all though, an enjoyable flick, if only to see friggin transformers on a movie screen.

I went in there looking to see some action and thats exactly what I got. The special effects were amazing. Overall I would give it a B+.

This is a little off topic, but does anyone think they have an idea on what the first preview in the beginning is? All I could find about it was this article 'Cloverfield'

You couldn't have posted in one of the dozen other transformers threads? Including **THE OFFICIAL*** one which was like the 4th thread down during the slowest part of the day?

You've been around for 3 years. Its pretty safe to assume that any new movie will already have threads going on it after opening night if not earlier.

Or all of them merged together.

And have one or two upside down as well. Wouldn't that be fun.

I watched the old one with my friends, we are planning on going to see the new one tomorrow. I had never seen the old one before but... Holy crap it was one of the most amazing movies I had ever seen. I had no idea what was happening but all I know was there was a lot of stuff going on with loads of awesome 90s music and laser guns. It was an overload of lights, sounds, music, and bad dialog. I was in nerd heaven.

Agreed, Bay definitely went for a lot of campy/cheesy stuff, but you have to realize that stuff also has the most mass-market appeal. A good portion of kids AND adults will get the material.

Not my first choice from an artistic perspective, but remember that G1 Transformers was incredibly campy/cheesy as well.

Just came back from the movie! FREAKING GREAT!

Every time a transformer "transformed", it was an awesome sequence. You'd think you'd get used to the transformation process, but man it was crazy each time!

I don't think I've ever wanted to go see a movie at theater TWICE.

I just came back but they butchered the living crap out of the characters. Whoever designed them should be shot and hanged, stat. I mean I'm speechless. They butchered the characters beyond recognition.

They needed Stan Bush.

You got the touch and Dare! Damn...I used to get pumped to those songs before songs in college. Lol.

I just recently acquired the album (1986 album) and plan on putting it on my iPod Shuffle which is arriving tomorrow.

Let me tell you this, Optimus does quote one thing from the old movie, he tells Megatron that one must stand and one must fall right before their final fight. I got the chills MANY times throughout that entire movie. It was truly bad-ass.

Well, given the good reviews (critic and individual), I'm going to take advantage of my day off and go check this out at the theater this morning. The wife has no interest in seeing it, so I'll watch it on my own. First showing is 10:30 this morning, so I'll let you guys know what I think.

I may have to go see this 1 or 2 more times before the movie is out of theatres.

Well, I'm not sure how to classify him, but that was my quick idea.

They needed the humans to move the story along. There was barely any plot as there was. Compared to the G1 cartoons though, this was Shakespeare.

The original show was robots with a bit of humans added for flavor, this was the opposite. I believe this show was actually more like one of the Japanese animes (Transformers has a TON of animes in Japan... I found them all available for download on an HTTP site, but I have yet to get them). Also, what about the lack of dinobots? Grimlock is my favorite autobot . At least Starscream was in the movie as he was my favorite decepticon. It was great when Megatron yelled at him for failing him once again, but I was a bit disappointed when Starscream didn't make a quip back at him about being a better leader. We all know Starscream always mentioned how he'd be a better leader than Megatron.

The Decepticons needed more developing, I'll give you that. But then, it would have been a 2 and half to 3 hour long movie.

I wouldn't have minded it being that long... I needed me a movie about transforming robots, not a kid with high pheromone levels that is looking to mate with the female! I was also a bit disappointed not to hear any of the corny auto-related phrases like, "Suffering spark plugs, he's right!"

I'm sure she will be mostly in the next FHM or whatever.

I hopes so... she was rockin' in the movie.

I still found it sad for some of the other movies that came out this year... that I laughed more at Transformers (an action movie) than their movie ( that were comedies ).
