Oh yeah, for sure.

The only one I wasn't very impressed was Switzerland vs. Croatia yesterday.

Tomorrow will be another great day. I can't catch it live though.

Shush! Switzerland played pretty good! The commentator said "The Swiss won 0-0... and it wasn't a slip." I nearly pissed my pants, that dude is such a tard.

But what I wanted to say: Sörenson, the Danish Keeper, he's AWESOME, reminds of Peter Schmeichel

Just watched the replay. Dayum England choked. Sat on their asses all 2nd half and ended up getting it handed to them.

Yeah, it was pretty bad. They tried to kill the game off at 1-0, but made so little attempts at counterattack. And Beckham screwed up the only golden chance they had.

France kept attacking but England crammed most of their players around the penalty box and gave no spaces to any of the attackers. England would clear the ball, then France would pick it up. England clears again, then France picks up again.

They paid for it with another poor clearance in the 91st minute, and gave away a freekick which was converted into a vital goal by Zidane. Then Gerrard committed a crucial error for which he has no excuses.

Henry was far from effective because, I think, England played the kind of game that he (and Arsenal) really dislikes. I wouldn't be surprised if there were some input from Campbell and Cole on how to shut off the pace of Henry. He had almost no space to play around, and England never pushed forward enough for Henry to make effective use of his pace and burst through any holes in the defense.

Disagree all you want, but please just take it easy. And it would be nice if my words are not misinterpreted or taken out of context. Gosh, I can't believe I have to add these silly disclaimers in ATOT nowadays.

Meh, he was just a bitter limey.... brigden normally has more sense then that... I'd be mighty po'd if Ireland were to lose in such a horrendous fashion...

Keep it up, I enjoy the news you provide in my busy days...

**EDIT** Even if you ARE an Arsenal fan...

He called names to me and to other people in this thread long before the France-England match. He did not post a single contributing word until I told him to shut his hole and contribute something if he really feels like he knows so much more than the rest of us.

I don't know what his problem is, but just sounded to me just like a stupid kid who pretends to be full of himself and has to insult other people to make himself feel better.

By the way, who do you cheer for?

I didn't call names to anyone long before the England match. Read the thread, and please point it out. I didn't post a single contributing word until I felt there was a need to. I don't need a play by play in this thread. Save your thoughts for the post-game.

I don't feel like I know more than everyone, but honestly, joohang, you've made several statements that got on my tits, never mind your interpretation of the England/France result. To predict a result is something we all do, but to predict two completely different results in the same sentence is absolutely useless for everyone involved. What are you trying to say? What's the point of that statement?

Yes, I was upset at the loss and maybe too harsh with my words, but what upsets me the most is that everyone is shitting on the English efforts, which I think were great. Yes, they buggered it up with three careless mistakes, and the French opportunized on those mistakes. As well they should.

However, if France had lost 2-1 in the exact same circumstances, everyone would be crying the French were robbed and that England didn't deserve a win.

But, that's what makes this sport so great - the passion.

This is what you said:
The ignorance of the game, players, and teams is astounding. Too many armchair "experts" in this thread.

That is one awfully arrogant statement, especially considering that your only contribution to the thread prior to that message was:
Come on, England!
Come on, England!
Come on, England!

Our lads will trounce those French bastards.

So I take that you also came to the thread to have fun and show your support for England. But then you had to express it with an extremely high dose of arrogance.

Then you went on say that my posts were "retarded." Followed by how I know f*ck about the sport but somehow you do.

We interpreted the France/England game in a very similar way overall, but we emphasized different aspects of the match and favoured one side over the other. You keep saying that I contradict myself, but that is nothing more than me also giving credit to the opponents. I don't want to write an essay defending both sides, but that is the sort of analysis I am trained to do in my career and that is why I try to take an impartial stance while favouring one over the other.

As for the "prediction," I never cared about picking one or choosing whether it will be a tie or a win. My point was that at the time of writing the post, I also thought it will be a 1-1 tie, but by the time I finished the post, I changed my mind to 2-0. It was my way of expressing that the match was very unpredictable.

You accuse me of knowing nothing, but I followed most of those players in the European leagues very closely over the past 2 years. I watched nearly every single match they played in, and 6 of the first team players in England and France happen to be Arsenal players. I knew better than yelling out surely that I know what the result will be like. It is for fun, after all. It is beyond me why you had to overreact the way you did. What harm did I do really?

Woah, just got home from a friend of mine watching the games, pretty fvcking awesome.
Before the game I thought 0-0 against Italy would be super, afterwards I felt we lost 2 points. Denmark clearly dominated, although Italy had a few but VERY close ones.
And I think that the danish defence is playing really well.

If Italy doesn't play better then Denmark and Sweden are on for next round. It's going to be an amazing group, Italy really needs to win over Sweden and Denmark should be able to win over Bulgaria, hopefully they're broken going through the swedish meatgrinder.

But best of all two good games, very entertaining.

You're right, I did overreact, but I was upset, and I still am. You're allegedly a fan, and I don't know your origins, but you must surely appreciate the emotions involved. That's my country out there, and they buggered up an otherwise good game. The French weren't on the ball, so to speak, and we should have won that match. I would have slept better with a hearty loss of 3-0 of quality football by the French.

I take very seriously the events that transpire on that pitch, and I expect people to offer up quality analysis and spirited debate. Don't mince your words, man. If you're going to call a result, do it!

You see, I'm now living in a country where the sport only reaches the lips of the "fans" every two years. Matches are dissected by people who know little, and, in the end, care even less. I can spot a fair weather fan a mile away, and there are a load kicking about here.

That attitude gets on my tits, and I came into this thread on the defensive. I owe you an apology. Sorry for being such a lout.

brigden, I perfectly understand where you come from. I live on the other side of Canada, in Vancouver, and the only team people talk about is the Canucks. At least football is growing in popularity in Canada and the broadcast of European football leagues have been constantly getting better.

I am also sorry for our conflict here, but I am glad that we are fine now. If I drop by Guelph any time, maybe we can meet and laugh over this matter over a beer or two.

As for my origin, I was born in South Korea and grew up in Argentina. Now, that country does not even have basketball, cricket, lacrosse or rugby. Football is the ONLY sport. It is a passion which I still share. And my grievance for England comes mostly from England knocking out Argentina in the last World Cup.

I followed European football only over the past 2 years, but now I follow it rather obsessively. I save a lot of league matches on SVCD (I got a collection of 400 CDs now) and constantly watch and rewatch past matches. So while I am still quite a newbie, I don't think I am completely ignorant either, nor do I intend to act like an expert. I welcome different points of view and criticisms of my analysis of the game.

I was not aware that betting was considered that serious. I will try to predict one result from now on.

I know exactly what it is like to be devasted, as I was when France and Argentina were both knocked out. And my worst experience of all was when Arsenal were knocked out from both the FA Cup and the Champions League.

I am a graduate student of Chinese philosophy at UBC, so my analysis of the world in general does have a tendency to be non-linear and perhaps even contradictory. So we might see things differently, but there is no doubt that I am another crazy fan of the beautiful game.

Anybody in West LA wanna watch the games?

I ordered the whole package. One caveat, though, I have to charge ~$5/day. I have absolutely no interest in making money off this, but the package costs me $180, and all I want to do is recoup some of the cost. The pubs in LA are charging $20/day. PM me if anyone is interested.
Weekday games, I will likely have to watch on a tape delay (TiVo), except for maybe some of the early games that I may want to watch live.
