Didn't get much of a chance to see the first 90 minutes, but I watched the entire first extra period.

A great result by a team not expected to win a match, let alone make it to the finals. Realistically, I think it's safe to say that Portugal, with the way they've been playing in front of their countrymen, will probably take the final, but I would expect to see Greece give them a good what-for.

Cheers, to Portugal for finally fulfilling some of the promise their Golden Generation was supposed to have shown, and a big cheers to Greece (my step-fathers home country) for playing some inspired football. What a great tournament this year, with all but one of the favorites eliminated. What a bloody fanastic sport!

Slainte,

As for mr. Nilsterrooij I think he's a very sore loser coz he did something similar when Man Utd faced FC Porto in the Champions League. He now will have to face some disciplinary proceedings (link) due to his behaviour after the match ended last wednesday, I hope that UEFA fries his rear end with a 5 game suspension.

Actually no. I just saw him at this Tournament and he just seems like an unfair player. I didn't bother with him until the England - Portugal game, such an arrogant pr!ck IMO.

I'm certainly not a fan of the Greek style of play. Very cynical. I've never enjoyed watching defensive teams play.

ahh, reminds me of those days when defensive tactics got Italy to the World Cup Finals in 1994.

Oh well history passed. its been a string of suprises frankly with the giants like France, Germany, Italy, Spain.. England all out before the Semi Finals.

But sincerely, I think both teams deserve to be in the Finals stage no matter how lame they have played. I kinda tipped Czech to Win the tournament being so impressive this year. Oh well, its football.

This is going to be a great match!

Figo is the best player still in competition. He's one of the Top-10 players in the world for the last 5 to 7 years.

That's undeniable. After the quarter-finals in 1996, semi-finals in 2000, today Figo will lift what was stolen from us in 2000 against France. Overated? He's the best portuguese player since Eusébio and he deserves the second World Player of the Year award for his performance on the more than 70 games he played this year.

He was the man of the match in the last game against Holland. It is a close call between Figo and Ronaldo. However, no way that he is the player of the tournament. I had my doubts about Figo's recent performances at Real Madrid and earlier in Euro as well. He played far below his full potential.

All my respect to him for his great runs in the semifinal, though. I hope to see him do the same today in the final as well.

I'm not saying he is the player of the tournament that title will be awarded to any of these players: Baros, Maniche, Ricardo Carvalho, Delas, Charisteas, Rooney, Nedved, Poborsky.

All I'm saying is that he isn't at all overated, he's still one of the best players in the world. In the last two months of the season with Real Madrid he was the only one who wasn't affraid of the ball. He never hid himself on the pitch, tried his best to help his team out while others were more interested in fashion shows, discos, publicity stunts. Probably that's why he hasn't played at his best. In 2002 he had an ankle injury, now he is tired.

I'll be pissed off if Figo is awarded player of the tournament, unless he pulls some beautiful magic from his arse today.

Greece won Euro2004.

I'm not surprised their goal came from yet another corner, after that they stuck in ultra defence mode, which again is not a surprise. Portugal goalkeeper Ricardo was definitely at fault for their goal. But well won Greece, odds were against ya throughout the tournament.

Well done Greece. Total shock, but tbh they played very well through the whole tournament and nobody can say they didnt deserve it or had any kind of easy run; beating the hosts (and one of the favourites) Portugal twice, France the holders (biggest favourites)...

IMO they won it because they were so organised, so determined and all played their socks off for every game. Exactly what was lacking in most of the pre-cup favourites.

They open the tournament with their first "finals" match win, and finish it with their first cup win. Amazing.

Roll on the Athens Olympics... but probably not until the party's finished, maybe sometime in 2005

Wow...

Simply stupendous for the Greeks. This was one of those matches that could go either way, and when the Greeks got the corner, iyou could almost see a ghost image of the Greece-Czech game.

Too bad for Portugal though. C. Ronaldo played superbly in the match, flying up and down both wings. Figo looked very old, and very tired, but after having the weight and expectation of a nation on your shoulders for so many years, I can;t blame him for not wanting to play any more internationals.

Good game Greece. Their play wasn't stunning, and they can surely pick up some flair along the way to World Cup Qualifying.

Time to gear of for WC Qualifying... go Ireland go!
