Updated the Canada schedule for all 3 group matches.

For USA schedule, refer to foolish501's post above since FSW seem to be the only ones covering any matches.

I haven't read today's share of the Lord of the Rings yet so I'll respond to the messages tomorrow. Good night.

A: Portugal and Spain advance, though I think Greece gives Spain a run of it
B: France and England, easy call here
C: Sweden and Italy, easy call here as well
D: Germany and Holland, Germans will snap out of it and Holland's awesome forwards will carry them

I'd put my money on Holland to win.

Have you seen the Czech play lately? They're AWESOME. Pavel Nedved, Milan Barros and Jan Koller, very good team. Remember that they were in the final at the last Euro Championship. I'd say Holland and the Czech will advance, ze Germans lost 0-2 against Hungary last week

Too bad most of Holland's awesome forwards will be on the bench.

Van's the man to lead Dutch attack
Thu 10 Jun, 6:05 PM

LISBON (AFP) - Manchester United striker Ruud Van Nistelrooy will operate as the lone striker when the Netherlands face Germany in their first Euro 2004 Group D match on Tuesday, coach Dick Advocaat announced.

"Van Nistelrooy is the best choice for the team. He has proved in the past that he can score at the top level. None of the four strikers really impressed me during the training sessions and the friendly matches we played, but I believe Ruud is a real match player," Advocaat said on Thursday.

"I think this team functions best with players out wide on the flanks. I tried other schemes during the friendlies but playing with two central strikers did not work out so well."

Van Nistelrooy's role in a 4-3-3 formation with midfielders pushing up to the flanks means Patrick Kluivert will be relegated to the bench and the decision has also angered Bayern Munich hotshot Roy Makaay.

But team captain Phillip Cocu supported the coach's solution as the Dutch attempt to overcome strife within the camp - van Nistelrooy declared earlier in the week the side wasn't good enough to win the trophy - and rebound from the 1-0 defeat against Ireland in their final friendly last Saturday which saw the 1988 Euro champions booed off the pitch.

"Yesterday during the training session we played a match and it felt so much more comfortable," Cocu said.

"It is hard to understand why the combination between Kluivert and van Nistelrooy didn't work out. I think it bothers them too and they can't explain why it just won't work."

Meanwhile Dutch injury concerns eased with both Chelsea-bound winger Arjen Robben and midfielder Andy van der Meyde resuming training.

Lively left-winger Robben, who is being touted as one of the brightest prospects in the game, had been troubled by a niggling hamstring injury, but he came through a training session unscathed on Wednesday.

Inter Milan's van der Meyde tweaked a hamstring during a morning training session but after treatment was able to practice with the full squad on Wednesday evening.

"It was nothing serious, just a little tension I felt," van der Meyde said. "I just do not want to take any risk certainly if the coach decides to play wingers again because that increases my chances of playing."

Awful! how can you put Makaay and Kluivert on the bench?!?!?!

This is quite a tough one, all I'm hoping for is a Portugal England final cause my cousin is married to a portugese millionaire who is gonna fly us out for the final if that occurs

C'mon England wear the Three Lions with pride

My predictions:

Group A: Portugal and Spain
Group B: France and England (but let's not rule out the Swiss just for ndee )
Group C: Italy and the winner of Sweden vs. Denmark
Group D: Poor Latvia will be out, but I hope they win some points. It will be a crazy battle between the other 3 giants.

Sephy, NEVER RULE OUT PAVEL NEEEEEEEEEEDDDVEEEEEEEDDDD and the Czech team.

Lucky bastage!

But at least I will catch the final with a bunch of French Canadians (either in Montréal or Moncton). Do you think France will make it to the final?

maddogchen, as for the new Dutch formation, that sounds awfully like the usual formation at Manchester United before signing Louis Saha.

Ruud up as the lone striker with 2 wingers (Ronaldo and Giggs in the case of United) to feed him. So I suppose that Overmars and van der Meyde will try to play the role of Ronaldo and Giggs.

Who knows? Maybe it could work but then Advocaat was so confident in his "Dutch Diamond" just a couple of weeks ago. I wonder if it really is worth to suddenly change formation just before the tournament starts.

Here's a pic of the new Dutch formation:

England and Germany should put on good shows, but the German side is getting weaker. I'm English myself, even though I was born in Germany, so I say GO ENGLAND. GO GET EM LADS.

Welcome!

If you can trust Henry's assessment of France in the World Cup at all, the tournament (World Cup 2002) started too soon. But he argues that this time they got a nice 2-week period to rest and train so let's see how they do!

Cheering for England and after that Holland. I'd like to see van Nistelrooy finally do well at the international level the way he does for Man United. Also England are just the easiest team to follow here.

Italy and France look best on paper, but of course you play the games on grass. The Czechs could be dangerous too, and same for Sweden. Gonna buy a few games, but not too many since they're so expensive!

Actually Man United played a 4-5-1 before Saha came over, while Advocaat is pushing the 4-3-3, with the "wingers" attacking far more than they would normally. I think Robben would be best on the left for them, not sure what the obsession with Overmars is--his best years were with Arsenal.

I hear van der Sar injured his hand in training... not good news for an already-shaky backline.

You could try this:
http://www.real.com/partners/euro2004/?x=y&pid=eu_ec_euroc&src=nosrc&pcode=uefa&cpath=CNT

I don't think they will broadcast it live though. Might be delayed by a day or so.

Might try that. Thanks.

I'm rooting for Greece, but common sense tells me thats a losing battle, but after that England and Holland.

Aye, it's gonna be great.. just a shame Ireland didn't qualify though :-(

Don't think England will do too well, as they have a difficult group, but I reckon they will just about scrape though into the QF stage. The England manager is playing Steven Gerrard, one of their best players in the left of midfield (he is best in the central position as was shown for Liverpool), but since there are no left midfielders in England team I think it's just a case of stick em anywhere, which is odd.

Here is my predictions.

Group A
Portugal
Spain

Russia
Greece

Group B
France
England

Switzerland
Croatia

Group C
Italy
Sweden

Denmark
Bulgaria

Group D
Netherlands
Czech Republic

Germany
Latvia

Quarter Final
Portugal 3
England 1

France 2
Spain 1

Italy 1
Czech Republic 0

Netherlands 2
Sweden 0

Semi-Final
Portugal 3
Italy 2

France 2
Netherlands 1

Final
Portugal 1
France 2
