I enjoyed both games today, though I was disapointed at the russians in the second half. Way to give up...


Of course, the big show here is monday night, Bulgaria - Sweden. They've set up some jumbotrons and there'll be a beer and meat fest nearby, gonna have a good time. The local bookies give bulgaria 1-8 odds of making it past the first round and 1-32 for winning to tourney. Definately not favourites, but they could still go a long way, the team isn't bad.

Ohh, and if we win, I look forward to some good drinking and rioting. Them streetcars need to be turned sideways

Have you seen the Czech play lately? They're AWESOME. Pavel Nedved, Milan Barros and Jan Koller, very good team. Remember that they were in the final at the last Euro Championship. I'd say Holland and the Czech will advance, ze Germans lost 0-2 against Hungary last week

England depends way too much on Owen's performance, if Owen somehow is not perfoming well, then they can kiss their asses goodbye. Also his game relies way too much on his speed, he needs to develop on more of his techniques, well I guess he has to when he gets older and slower, and has to adapt a different game due to physical constraints.
They also need to find a decent 2nd striker, Heskey at best is a 3rd string on any other prominent national team.

I see England playing lots of counter attacks on France in this coming game since they got the speed to do it, but France will be the one that is controlling the ball. France looks just too good, at least on paper, hopefully they won't choke like they did in the last World Cup.

Effectively, he's suggesting England could keep the French at bay and tie the match, or the French could completely dominate the game.

Yeah, live audio is not bad. I once listened through BBC Canada for an Arsenal match they didn't show here. It's old school but radio commentators tend to be better than TV.

i have that too. the video feeds for the post game highlights were TERRIBLE! all kinds of hangups and artifacting. the rest of the pre-tourney highlights were much better. i hope this improves.

Oh man, I can't believe they are not showing the matches on cable TV here in the United States. I was listening to some radio broadcast over the Internet and after 40 minutes or so I really could not stand that any longer and ordered the $179 :Q package to see all matches. This is really a lot of money for me but better than feeling terrible for a few weeks. I am German and really need to watch it.

BTW, I found a post on a soccer forum that listed some live video feeds. All the games should show up there. When I tried it for Portugal - Greece the server was too full but maybe some of you have better luck with some of the other matches.

If I absolutely have to choose between the two, I go for France 2 - 0 England.

Unless Santini plays Barthez and he makes some silly mistake again, France are more than capable to keep a clean sheet against England. They kept a clean sheet against BRAZIL 3 weeks ago so I don't see why wouldn't be able to against England.

It will be a very tight game but I do expect at least a goal. This will be an all out English football match, as more than half of the France players play in the English league.

But I must say that the attack power of France does have an edge over England. And with John Terry ruled out, France will hammer the England goal through Pires, Zidane, Henry and Trezeguet, while Vieira and Makelele will control the central midfield to keep possession.

I hope that missing Terry (I'm not going to get started on the whole Riogate saga...) isn't too big a deal. Granted, he's got a great season but he's not the quickest and with Campbell and King we should have a fairly speedy defence at least. Makelele has been awful at Chelsea this season so I hope he continues this form tonight.

Viera IS the complete midfielder at the moment, but Steven Gerrard has the potential to be as good, so the Gerrard/Lampard v Viera/Makelele looks equal on paper to me.

Up front we need Owen to be on top form and Rooney to show Thuram exactly why he's so highly rated (without elbows!)

It's going to be great!

No doubt it will be great.

However, my view is based on Erikkson's formation where he plays Gerrard on the left wing and Lampard and Scholes as central midfielders.

Granted, they are great players and I love to watch them play. But Gerrard is not naturally a winger, and Scholes and Lampard are attacking midfielders.

I am not sure how the midfield battle will look like today, and the England formation does not fully make sense to me. I can't quite picture how this team will play tomorrow.

I agree that Makelele hasn't been all that great this season, and I dislike him for his extremely poor sportsmanship at Monaco. Vieira has been in top form, and I just love his scissor tackles.

Pires/Henry vs. Cole/Campbell will be great.

Good call on the thread. Czech Republic are a good outsider, especially when you consider:

A) They beat the Dutch in qualifying who while having an abundance of talent are notoriously under achievers.

B) The Germans are boring and lack flair if Ballack doesn't play.

I'm sorry, but Italy's defence DOES NOT 'suck'. It's one of the best in the world. Buffon is arguably one of the best keepers in the game. Nesta and Cannavaro are arguably the two best centre backs in the game. Iuliano etc are all experienced players. And Italy is traditionally an exceptionally good defensive team and with strikers like Del Piero could easily win the tournament.
