Yes, I am English, and very aware of my squad's ability. England do have a habit of choking when it really matters and because of that, they've got a reputation. However, football is a game of upsets, and to call a result and change your mind in the same sentence (with no humility) just leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth.

There are better sides than the English, but for our lads to hold the French (with the best offence in the world) at bay for an entire game, and to have some twat state that the French dominated proves just how little he knows.

In the 2nd half, the French dominated. I was also not very impressed by the French but the English didn't really hold them "at bay for an entire game".

Oh so you got frustrated because I was not partial enough to one side. I'm sorry. That is not how I watch the game.

I enjoy the team plays and the individual talents of great players. Even as an Arsenal fan, I clap Manchester United if they play better football.

I'm sorry to hear that you cannot accept my attempt to watch football for what it is.

Um, how many goals did the French score in regular play?

Shyte lad... the game's not over until the official blows the final whistle... I don't care if there's 10 minutes of injury time...

England didn't play a very good game, at all. A good header on a freekick isn't playing a good game, it's taking advantage of your chances. Beckham had his shot at putting it away, but he telegraphed his kick to Barthez... He was leaning left the entire strike.

France didn't deserve to win the game, but after the Barthez save on the PK, it almost seemed that France was galvanized, and that at least a draw was imminent. Of course, after waiting until injury time, I really didn't expect them to walk away with a win.

Still, I'm not sure why English fans are surprised.. the SkySports boys kept yammering on about how England has ne'er won their opening match at Euro before. If there was a way to stick a loss to both teams, that would ahve been the game to do it... I think Thierry should stop wearing the damn Baby Bonnet, and just worry about playing his game.. It seemed like he spent 3/4 of the bloody game doing nothing but whining at the officials for fouls... And Rooney needs to keep his head, otherwise he'll be tossed in their next match...

Hehe brigden all upset because England got stuffed. Admit it, France had England in the back foot for most of the match, I was watching it too. I think England were playing a 10-0-0 formation in the second half, that was the only way to stop the likes of Zidane and Henry.

It was funny to see Heskey come on, I thought it would have been better to bring on a defender (Carragher), as that was what England were doing.. DEFENDING.

I think the reason Rooney was subbed was because he was already sitting a yellow card, and looked like he was going to get another the way he was getting on, but he played well, as well as King.

I was pulling for both sides. I didn't really care who won, cause I'm a fan of both sides, perhaps more for France though. Damn though no need to feel ashamed if your team lost jeez. Admit to it people. You're not a true supporter if you only brag about the wins and don't even remember the loses. France beat England, fess up.

What, no one is talking about the wonderful 0-0 draw between the Croats and the Swiss???

I kid, I kid

I missed the games but saw the highlights. They gave 30 seconds to the Croatia-Swiss game and 3 minutes to the Eng-Fra game heheh.
Horrible way for England to lose the match. From what I've been reading here, and the fact that I didn't see a single highlight showing Owen, I guess he let the team down. So sad.

Owen, Beckham, and Scholes were all quiet. Actually, Owen was totally ineffective. So was the French offensive. If I were to give cheers to anyone, it would be to the English defence (gasp!) and Barthez for stopping Beckham's terrible penalty.

Yeah, it was pretty bad. They tried to kill the game off at 1-0, but made so little attempts at counterattack. And Beckham screwed up the only golden chance they had.

France kept attacking but England crammed most of their players around the penalty box and gave no spaces to any of the attackers. England would clear the ball, then France would pick it up. England clears again, then France picks up again.

They paid for it with another poor clearance in the 91st minute, and gave away a freekick which was converted into a vital goal by Zidane. Then Gerrard committed a crucial error for which he has no excuses.

Henry was far from effective because, I think, England played the kind of game that he (and Arsenal) really dislikes. I wouldn't be surprised if there were some input from Campbell and Cole on how to shut off the pace of Henry. He had almost no space to play around, and England never pushed forward enough for Henry to make effective use of his pace and burst through any holes in the defense.

Disagree all you want, but please just take it easy. And it would be nice if my words are not misinterpreted or taken out of context. Gosh, I can't believe I have to add these silly disclaimers in ATOT nowadays.

While I hope Denmark win, I think Italy will win. Sweden v Bulgaria is too difficult to call, I just can't wait till Thursday now so England can put yesterday behind them. At least they've shown France can be negated very effectively with good defending

I think it's easy to call that Sweden will kick their asses Who does Bulgaria still have? Hristov, Balakov or some other players I knew a couple years ago aren't playing anymore IIRC

Bulgaria qualified ahead of Belgium and Croatia so won't be pushovers though - they've got a very good formation and players like Petrov are capable of doing Sweden some damage
