espn has started the trojan worship early this year:
The Trojans blindsided the Buckeyes. And with little standing in their path to a title, everyone asks: Can USC be stopped?
by the time january rolls around they'll be tripping over themselves trying to crow this USC team the best team ever. just like that team that won the threepeat
And the sad thing is, USC is going to end up being just like OSU at the end of the season. ASU and Cal lost which means Cal will drop out of the rankings and ASU probably should considering they lost to a team that got spanked by a #22 Utah. Oregon squeezed by a mediocre Purdue team and will now go play teams in a weak PAC-10 conference.
It looks as if USC will play one ranked opponent this season besides OSU, and that's Oregon. That is if Oregon can remain in the top 25. USC's win against OSU is quality, no doubt, but we just don't know how quality yet. We know OSU was overrated, we just don't know by how much. If OSU loses against Wisconsin or Penn State then an argument can certainly be made that USC beat a mediocre OSU team at home. Quality, but no incredibly so. That leaves USC the top team in a weak conference this year, just like OSU was last year. I'm not saying that USC would go get killed like OSU did last year in an NC game, I'm simply saying that everyone arguing that OSU shouldn't have played for the NC last year could probably make the same argument against USC this year. They are the best team in a weak conference and will have few quality wins.
I'd definitely say that if a Big 12 and SEC team goes undefeated, they should play each other in the NC. Both of those teams would have to have several quality wins against teams like Georgia, LSU, Florida, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Missouri. Honestly, 2 of the ranked teams that USC was going to have to play just lost to unranked opponents. I would find it hard to send USC over an undefeated Missouri, Oklahoma, LSU, or Georgia.
