ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - It only took a little over a minute for the Vancouver Canucks to put away the Minnesota Wild.
Todd Bertuzzi scored the first of three goals in a 1:08 span of the first period as the Canucks beat the Wild 4-2 Saturday night.
Bertuzzi also had two assists as the Canucks handed the Wild just their second loss in 12 games (8-2-2) this season. The defeat ended a six-game unbeaten streak (5-0-1) for Minnesota, which entered with the most points in the NHL (18).
Bertuzzi's power-play goal, his fifth goal of the season, tied the game just 1:20 after Marion Gaborik gave the Wild a 1-0 lead.
``We stuck to our game plan,'' Bertuzzi said. ``Instead of sitting around and not doing anything about it, we went right out and got one.''
Trevor Letowski and Ed Jovanovski also scored in the first period, and Markus Naslund added a third-period insurance goal for Vancouver. Gaborik and Cliff Ronning each had a goal and an assist for the Wild.
Gaborik opened the scoring with his seventh goal 8:04 in, and the game had the feel of another Wild victory.
``You have to be careful when a team gets (the first) goal,'' Minnesota coach Jacques Lemaire said. ``The line that takes over at that point needs to keep the pressure on and play in their end. It didn't work out that way.''
Instead, a brief stretch of sloppy play by Minnesota gave the Canucks control.
Bertuzzi was left alone in front during a Vancouver power play and converted a pass from Henrik Sedin for his fourth goal of the season at 9:24.
Just 27 seconds later, the Canucks had the lead. Murray Baron's shot from the left point went wide, but the put ricocheted off the back boards to the right post, and Letowski slid a shot behind Minnesota goalie Manny Fernandez for a 2-1 lead.
Then Jovanovski's slap shot from above the right circle got past Fernandez at 10:32, and the Wild suddenly looked more like the expansion team they were two years ago than the team that started this season so well.
``The first one was a good goal. The other two, I suspect Fernandez would like to have back,'' Vancouver coach Marc Crawford said.
But Minnesota settled down, and Gaborik set up Ronning for his third goal of the season at 15:33 to get the Wild within 3-2.
``You can either let it deflate you or you can play harder,'' Ronning said of the Canucks' three-goal burst. ``I think we played harder.''
Minnesota turned up the pressure in the second period, but Vancouver goalie Dan Cloutier kept the Canucks in front with a pair of stellar glove saves on point-blank opportunities by Ronning and Alexei Zholtok.
Naslund's goal, his sixth of the season, sealed the victory at 11:50 of the third.< Notes: Darren Langdon and Marek Malik, acquired Friday in a trade with Carolina, both saw action for the Canucks. ...
