As one of the few (rabid!) Devils fans, I think that I should make sure to remind everyone in this thread that the Devils will skate away with the cup this June.

Vancouver is good team and all, but the defense is looking might thin after Jovo, and I wouldn't pin my hopes on Cloutier (remember the Lidstrom 50 footer...).

Ancient history dude (although everyone is going to point that out for the rest of his career)

As for the Devils winning the cup........... first you have to get there buddy (just like we have to make it there).

I think a team from the West is going to take it though.

Our defense has shown that we can play without Jovo. Jovo, Ohlund, Sopel (although he has the worst +/-) and Salo are a pretty good top 4. Rounded out by Baron (Mr. Shot Blocker), Malik (my least fav D-man on the team) and Bryan Allen (who played quite well while Jovo was gone, although he had a couple dumb give aways, but he is young and he is still learning).

If we can get some production from Salo's shot on the point then we will be golden

ps. Kudos to Marty Broduer for his 8th consecutive 30+ win season.

Cheers,
Aquajman

90% of Ave's games are on Fox Sports Network this season, 5% ESPN and 5% Local station (UPN20)

I don't have a TV though, so I either go up the street to a nice sports bar, or we all hook up at my buddy's house that lives near Down Town for the big games, or just listen on the radio here at my house.

Man PPV, that is Fugged up!! I think the city of Denver would protest that, we are a huge sports town, especially Hockey and Football

Actually I read somewhere that the PPV guys have the right to pick 4 of the top games and guess who they picked ......... 2 Detroit games & 2 Colorado games :| The other games like the ones CBC does not air on saturday........ I agree.......... should be shown on PPV but to take 4 top level games sucks But I guess that is how you get sales ......... who would want a PPV with Nashville or Florida ha ha ha

Well, when TO plays a Saturday game every week of the season and is on CBC for that, plus when TSN plays all the TO games they can... I'm glad that the next 6 Saturdays have Vancouver on HNIC (I think it's 6 anyways).

Vancouver has to share it's Saturday games with the Calgary and Edmonton home games, and whenever Ottawa, Montreal, or Toronto play their Saturday game out west somewhere.

Sportsnet does a great job with the Canucks. Jim Hughson is awesome, and I'll take John Garrett over Greg Millen any day (goalie scrap anyone?)

I've seen a few PPV games at bars and what not, and I actually wouldn't mind paying the $10 every now and again just to avoid all the annoying commercials. I think that all games will be offered on PPV soon in addition to the free showings, just as an option for people who don't want to see all the commercials.

Canucks not frightened by Avs

Canadian Press
2/12/2003

VANCOUVER (CP) - The Vancouver Canucks can't help but hear the footsteps, but they're not worried.

Instead of chasing, the Canucks find themselves the chased as they prepare for the streaking Colorado Avalanche in a key NHL Northwest Division game Thursday night.

The Canucks - unbeaten in seven (4-0-3) - lead the division and are second overall in the Western Conference with 72 points on a 32-16-8-0 record.

Just six points behind are the Avalanche, who have worked themselves back into the playoff picture with six straight wins and a 10-game unbeaten streak (8-0-2).

``We're riding high, they are riding high,'' forward Todd Bertuzzi said after practice Wednesday. ``You're getting two very good teams going at it. It's exciting.

``Their top guys are playing extremely well and we're going to have to play excellent hockey to beat this club.''

Three weeks ago, the Avs looked like roadkill on the conference highway, sitting ninth and out of the playoffs. Since then, Colorado has turned into the roadrunner, moving into fifth spot with a 25-14-11-5 record.

A win against the Canucks would move the Avs back into striking distance for the division title for the eighth consecutive year.

``We knew they would be coming,'' said centre Brendan Morrison, who anchors Vancouver's high-scoring line of Bertuzzi and Markus Naslund.

``They are coming now and they are coming hard.''

For years the Canucks were the doormat Colorado wiped its feet on while travelling to the playoffs. Now Vancouver has a chance to make its own tracks.

``It's a lot better than chasing,'' Bertuzzi, who has 29 goals and 63 points. ``We're a lot more fresh.

``The thing that motivates you staying on top is you know there's not that much of a difference in points. You have to be on your game very night.''

Naslund, who leads the league with 37 goals, said there's a changing of the guard.

``We're an up-and-coming team that wants to take over,'' he said. ``That's where the rivalry comes in.''

The game will pit two of hockey's best lines.

Colorado's trio of Peter Forsberg, Milan Hejduk and Alex Tanguay have combined for 16 goals and 25 assists over the last eight games.

During that same stretch, Naslund, Morrison and Bertuzzi have nine goals and 15 assists.

The Canucks take a quiet confidence into the game at GM Place. They haven't lost three straight all season and have dropped two in a row just four times.

In four meetings this season, each team has won twice.

``We all knew Colorado was going to get hot and go on a streak,'' said coach Marc Crawford, who was behind the Avs bench when they won their first Stanley Cup in 1996.

``You can't give them a lot of chances. You have to be sharp in your own zone, you want to make sure you don't turn pucks over to them.''

Some have billed the game as a watershed for Vancouver, saying a win can cement the team's confidence while a loss would leave them peaking over their shoulders.

``It's a big game, no question about it,'' agreed Morrison.

``Is this game going to make or break our season? Probably not. We're going to do everything we can to win the game and keep the distance between us.''

The most relaxed man in the Canucks dressing room was goaltender Dan Cloutier.

``For me it's just another game,'' he said with a shrug. ``There's still 20-some games left.

``You can't start putting extra pressure on yourself. They all are going to be big from now on.''

Bertuzzi ribbed for acting role

Canadian Press
2/12/2003

VANCOUVER (CP) - Todd Bertuzzi is used to taking hits on the ice but the Vancouver Canucks' forward was getting shots from his own teammates Wednesday over his acting debut in the television program Cold Squad.

Bertuzzi plays a policeman in his brief appearance in the crime drama, which airs Saturday night.

A screening of his bit part replaced the usual sports highlights on the big television in the Vancouver dressing room after practice.

The reviews were swift and, in some cases, cutting.

``I was actually impressed, hate to say it,'' said captain Markus Naslund, battling to keep a straight face. ``He has the good looks.

``Just ask him.''

Centre Brendan Morrison said the part was made for the six-foot-three Bertuzzi.

``I don't think he had to say too much,'' chuckled Morrison. ``He just stands there and looks good.

``Nothing changes. Keeps him in a comfortable role. Maybe if they released it a little bit early they could have promoted it for an Oscar performance.''

Defenceman Ed Jovanovski warned his teammates to be careful in their critiques.

``We might rib him a little bit,'' smirked Jovanovski. ``He's a pretty sensitive guy though.''

Bertuzzi, who regularly practises his brooding scowl when dealing with the media, admitted the thespian experience was kind of fun.

``It was something different,'' said the NHL all-star. ``People around were good to me.

``It was enjoyable. I would do it again.''

So will he hit the boards after he retires from the ice?

``I'm not saying I'm going to win the best actor or anything but it was fun,'' he said shaking his head.

One of the most excited people about the role was Bertuzzi's mother back in Ontario.

``My mom watches that show all the time,'' he said. ``When I told her she said `Are you kidding me?' ''

His friends haven't been burning up the telephone lines calling him about his new career.

``They are too embarrassed to talk to me about that,'' he said.

Bertuzzi's fans will have to make a choice come Saturday. The Canucks play in Calgary that night at about the same time the show airs.

``I'm sure I'll get a copy,'' Bertuzzi quipped. ``Does anyone want to talk about hockey?''

Big game tonight, unfortunately the Canucks are going DOWN! The Avalanche are on a roll - 10 game unbeaten streak. Although, I'm still impressed the Canucks haven't lost in OT yet.

Go Avalanche.

Avalanche roll into Vancouver

Sports Ticker
2/13/2003

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (Ticker) -- Patrick Roy and the Colorado Avalanche look to defeat a first-place team for the second time in three nights and extend their season-high 10-game unbeaten streak Thursday night when they visit General Motors Place to face the Vancouver Canucks.

Roy came within eight minutes of his fourth shutout in seven games and made 32 saves Tuesday as the Avalanche defeated the Atlantic Division-leading New Jersey Devils, 3-1.

Trying to join Martin Brodeur as the only goalies ever to win 30 games in eight straight seasons, Roy is 19-11-2 with a 2.32 goals-against average on the season and 6-0-2 with a 1.13 GAA in his last eight decisions.

Milan Hejduk had a goal and two assists, Alex Tanguay contributed a goal and an assist and Peter Forsberg set up all three goals Tuesday as the Avalanche won their sixth straight game and moved within six points of the Canucks for the lead in the Northwest Division. Colorado also trails Minnesota, which is idle Thursday, by one point.

The Avalanche have scored first in each game on their 6-0-2 streak and are 14-5-4-3 on the road.

The Canucks come off consecutive wins and are 4-0-3 in their last seven contests.

On Monday, Markus Naslund scored his NHL-best 37th goal and linemate Todd Bertuzzi extended his points streak to 11 games as the Canucks edged the Chicago Blackhawks, 2-1. It also was the league-leading 11th game-winning goal this season for Naslund. His 33 career game-winners put him one ahead of current New York Ranger Pavel Bure atop Vancouver's all-time list.

Bertuzzi has five goals and eight assists on his streak, which is four games short of his career high, which he set from January 3-February 4, 2001. That is tied with current New York Ranger Petr Nedved for the longest in Canucks history.

The Avalanche and Canucks have split four meetings this season, with each winning once at home.
