I just tried downloading the latest Catalyst drivers for my ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128, but now I get really slow scrolling for some reason. In IE, pages would appear instantly before and when scrolling, the screen would refresh quickly. With the new drivers though, the screen would now actually sort of appear slowly from top to bottom instead of the whole screen appearing instantly. The scrolling is now also very slow and drawn out. Is there some setting I need to mess with? I just rolled back the drivers for now and it's back to being nice and quick.

Sounds like your clock speeds are turned down. I haven't used ATI since a 9600 Pro so I'm not sure how to tell you to turn them up, but that may be what needs to be done.

I installed the 77.72 and games are fine, but I get problems with running DVDs or movie clips. It's like white out or like artifacts. No overclocking at all.
So the problem is 2D or something.
Anyone else getting this problem?

Its a bug in the drivers. To fix the problem, go into your videocard options. Select the color correction tab. Then on the drop down menu, select "all." Move any slider on the right and then hit "restore to factory defaults." your videos and movies should play fine afterwards.

Just another follow-up on the problem with the strange gamma setting when playing videos with these new drivers (77.72). From the release notes for this driver,

O p e n I s s u e s i n V e r s i o n 7 7 . 7 2
GeForce 6 Series
? GeForce 6800/6800GT/6800 Ultra, Windows XP, Windows XP
Professional x64: NVIDIA Overlay gamma controls under Standard
mode do not work properly, resulting in overly dark or overly bright
video.
To work around this issue:
1 From the NVIDIA control panel, click the Color Correction menu tree
item.
2 From the Color Correction page, click the Apply color changes to list
arrow and select All, then click Restore Defaults.
3 Click Apply.

It looks like you'll have to switch from standard to advanced mode in order to get the option to restore defaults, however; or, move change a setting on the page, as noted by Chopstick, above.

Having video playback problems with this driver on FX5600, FX5600U, and 6800GT. It makes all video playback in all video players completely washed out like the gamma is cranked all the way up, disabling hardware acceleration does NOT fix it. Had to roll back to 77.30. The new 80.xx series drivers appear to have the same issue.

Edit: i see they have a fix in known issues already

I will upgrade again.

Edit 2: the fix does work, make sure you have "all" selected when you hit restore defaults, then set everything to your liking again, and hit apply. (i use digital vibrance  )

NOTE TO Gamingphreek to EDIT post to please update ATI Omega Driver to v2.46 (based on Catalyst 5.6). Heres the link to the Omega Drivers web site:

http://www.omegadrivers.net/

For quick comparsion here are my previous last run of the Halo timedemo (Halo v1.07) when I was running Omega Drivers v2.6 (I had problems with v2.26a). NOTE: I always run the timedemo 6 times consecutively and average them. Its' also important to note that the first run of each "batch" of runs is always lower than subsequent runs because none of the data has been cached yet. I'd rather include the slowest result and average it in than throw it out entirely. Also, anytime I change any of the game settings I re-boot, so the timedemo results are not skewed one way or the other by any data being cached from the timedemo being run.

All runs are at 1,280x1,024 with all effects enabled within the game (Specular, Shadows, Decals, ect) and game settings on "High". That said, with Omega Driver v2.6 I got:

81.92 frames/sec
88.77 frames/sec
89.00 frames/sec
89.08 frames/sec
89.12 frames/sec
89.10 frames/sec
87.83 frames/sec TOTAL

After downloading v2.46 (based on Catalyst 5.6) of the Omega Drivers this evening un-installed v2.6 of the Omega Drivers, re-booted and ran Driver Cleaner 3, defragged my hard drives, then installed v2.46 of the Omega Drivers. Then I ran the timedemo another 6 times. I got:

95.39 frames/sec
104.80 frames/sec
105.01 frames/sec
104.78 frames/sec
104.78 frames/sec
104.68 frames/sec
103.24 frames/sec TOTAL

Thats a 17.5% increase. Not too shabby. Now, I know that some will say "big deal". In another post in the "Video" section blckgrffn said ..."using Halo as a benchmark is, in my opinion, worse than using any synthetic benchmark." I don't think so, since neither Nvidia or ATI is constantly trying to optimize drivers for the Halo timedemo like they are for synthetic benchmarks such as 3DMark and others.

Just thought some forum members would find this info interesting. I'm going to post this info in another thread about v2.46 of the Omega Drivers if it hasn't already been done.

WOW, a week in the Bahamas' and 10 days in Rome. I think you need a vacation to recover from vacation, don't you? Or, from the sound of it, maybe it was work-related? The update would be great, thanks.

Lol, it wasn't vacation. In Bahamas we were doing a Vacation Bible Camp (incredible!!), and in Rome i was up at ~5:30 every morning touring each day. That isn't the problem though. The jet lag is killing me. I dont take it well evidently

Yeah, ill definitely try to get it updated tonight.

adrianx, I looked through the release notes to see if there was anything that sounded like it might be relevant to the problem that you noted. The only thing that I could pick out that might be of interest was this:

VIA and ATI AGP 3.0 Chipsets
? Problem
The use of AGP-protocol cycles for coherent access to regular system
memory results in data corruption on systems based on VIA and ATI AGP
3.0-compatible chipsets.
AGP-protocol cycles to the AGP aperture are not affected.
? Workaround
To correct the data corruption problem, the Release 75 driver exclusively
uses PCI-protocol cycles to access regular system memory when it detects a
VIA or ATI AGP 3.0-compatible chipset.

I wonder if perhaps experimenting with with a larger AGP aperture size might be of some help. Just a shot in the dark with regards to that.

Does any of these drivers completely(at least ,almost) eliminate the infinite loop problem? I am currently playing GTA:SA n getting this prob rather frequently. Currently using 66.31 driver as the 71.89 drivers made matters worse.

I wasn't aware of this problem to begin with, nor do i own the game so unfortunately i cannot comment. Check out Nvidia's forums as well as Nvnews.net forums.
