5.8 control panel didnt work at all for me.

5.8 gave me -10fps in CSS stress test. 94fps vs 104fps w/ 5.7s.

A lot of users reported 20+fps gains in stress test with 5.8s, so i dunno...

You are kidding right. What in the world is ATI doing. Where in the hell are they pulling these performance gains on the same basic architecture that has been around for almost 3 years now?? Something just doesn't seem right.

Ah well ill let the experts figure it out.

I wish there was some way for me to link directly to ATI's drivers. Whenever i try however, it doesn't work. I can only link to their homepage. So the most ill be able to do is update the latest drivers, and latest recommended.

I got a +20~30 performance boost in CS:S and about 5 frames in Unreal Tournament 2004.

People keep reporting these huge performance gains. However, all the reviews i have read still show only 1-2% gains.

If, indeed, these performance gains are happening, i am very interested to know where ATI is pulling them from. There is not that much driver overhead, and their drivers are not that bad that we should be seeing these gains.

I think it really depends on your system, I mean reviews use this and that blah blah and people have different rigs that work better with this and that blah blah so that's where I think it's coming from.

is anyone noticing a reduction in AA quality when using 77.77 as opposed to 77.56 quadro drivers?

the official 77.77 geforce drivers has noticablly more jaggies running 8x AA as opposed to 77.56 which render almost a perfectly smooth surface. video card is a 6800 Ultra running 430/1200.

i've switched back and forth between the two and each time using driver cleaner to get rid of "traces". anyone else want to give these from guru3D a try and see if they can reproduce the same results?

Anyone try 78.01 drivers released September 2?

I installed 77.77 drivers and now when overclocking gets artifacts. Was thinking of rolling back drivers to 71.89 but now 78.01 is released maybe better?

The 78.01's help and diminish the "flickering". So it is advisable to use it if you have the 6 or 7 series cards. THe drivers shouldn't have any bearing on overclocking.

i82, AA might look better as the Quadro drivers are optimized for a higher IQ than more speed. However, it SHOULDN'T look better as that SHOULD only be on Quadro Cards and when doing things like Line AA and what not. You also might be looking at a different frame. Although the image looks similar, it is possible that it is a different frame. Finally, check your video settings and make sure that they are identical. Obviously one would look better if it were taken in HQ as opposed to Q

YOu are going to want the latest drivers or the latest XG drivers so far. There haven't been any reported major flaws for me to recommend otherwise.

The Forceware driveres are the normal drivers. If you are referring to the XG vs Forceware, the XG's are just heavily tweaked for more IQ and performance.

I just installed an XFX 6600GT (AGP) upping from a 4200. Uninstalled old drivers and then installed the newest (78.01 i believe) drivers and started up WoW. About 15 mins of fine running ended abruptly when i saw a few weird texture glitches like something was showing through and then my comp just restarted. Got a message when windows came around that the problem was my vid driver. Thought I'd give it another shot and about 5 mins in my screen started flickering and had all these rolling bars and i couldn't exit the game or anything, had to restart myself. Its running at 61C without a load, i dont know what its running loaded

[edit- update] I rolled back to the cd drivers and that was all sorts of messed up. See through parts of my chars body, weird chunky things all over, not pretty. So untill someone responds with a better option I guess ill just start trying drivers untill something works. - NEW Tried 77.77 thought it was going good again, but had some freezes and then a complete lock up. The search continues.

It seems to be doing just fine when im not gaming, but I was wondering if there might be a better choice of drivers for my card. I was thinking of rolling back to the drivers on the XFX CD for now, but if there is a more recent version that would work better then I would rather use that.

Thanks for the help anyone who reponds.

Nah... that doesn't really sound like drivers.

XFX is not a good company at all.... very cheap products/parts.

61C at Idle is incredibly hot for a 6600GT. It sounds like you are either overheating or getting sever power fluctuation on the 12V rail.

A. What is your PSU (Specs please)
B. WHen the computer is running (BE CAREFUL) touch the heatsink briefly and tell us if it is hot. If it is cool that is bad as it isn't making proper contact, and therefore isn't properly dissipating heat. If it is hot that is good.
C. Is your fan running (Stupid question but ya gotta ask it)

Now you mentioned bars rolling up and down your screen. Aside from the causes i listed above... that almost sounds like vertical tearing. Try enabling VSYNC if that problem still occurs. TO solve the sluggish gameplay and what not with VSYNC you should enable triple buffer (I dont believe the Reference Drivers have it open, so you would have to switch to modded drivers).

tried the 71.89 they didn't work at all. then reinstalled the 78.01 but i forgot to uninstall the 71.89 so it wasn't clean but surprisingly it ran better then before. Now by better i mean it didn't crash or freeze. I got pretty regular (usually every second or two) little blips of artifacts/glitches little black and white angles and such, and my fps was jumping from 15fps to 70fps sometimes in the same spot without me doing anything. But as i said it was at least playable without freezing.

Now I did see that some people were having vid problems with the new patch on WoW and i did change a few things that might have contributed to it not freezing but I dont know.

A. my PSU I believe is the thermaltake 420w
+3.3V@30A; +5V@40A; -5V@0.3A; +12V@18A; -12V@0.8A; +5VSB@2A
B. Ill have to check the gpu heatsink and fan when i get back home.

Because there have been problems with the game for others with crashes and such im gonna try and load up another game and see if I still have problems. Ill update with that and the gpu heatsink and fan thing as well as if a different game had problems shortly.

[EDIT]
B. the heatsink is definately hot
C. the fan is running

So i tried it with a couple games, nba live 05 which i know isn't the biggest gpu stress test but it did run nice and smooth, better then my 4200 was running it.
Then i loaded up fantastic 4, same thing no problems. Then I loaded up Kotor 2 and just to put a little more stress on it set it to 1280x1024, 4x AA and AF, High texture pack and smooth shadows and it handled it just fine, no artifacts, no glitches, no nothing.

So I guess the problem lies with the game. Unless anyone has any other ideas I guess I should probably add my problem to the complaints list for those having video problems after the new patch on the WoW forums.

Well that PSU is also very low quality... no offense or anything. 18A on the 12V rail simply doesn't cut it anymore....ESPECIALLY with a Pentium (although the older 478's use the 3.3V Rail IIRC).

At least you know it is only the game though. However, i would still look into getting a quality PSU. Antec, Seasonic, OCZ, Sparkle, Fortron, Enermax (Noisetaker) are all very nice PSU's and will far outstrip that one. You might want to invest in one.

5.9 released and linked. I am trying to find a way to link to the drivers directly, but as of right now i can only link to ATI's website homepage.
