81.85 didn't do me much good. After rebooting the screen would black out every four seconds (for about 100ms) and lots of graphics corruption all over the place: black tray icons, dialog boxes that weren't displayed (but appeared after Alt+Tabing back and forth) and various gui elements that showed up only occasionally.

That was under 32-bit Windows 2003. Under 64-bit Windows 2003 the 2D stuff worked OK, but 64-bit Far Cry triggered a BSOD as soon as I tried to load a level (the BSOD pointed at nv4_mini.sys)

I'm back with 77.77 now. 77.77 has been really stable for my dual Opteron 244 and 6600GT video card.

81* really F*ed up my display so bad that now i cant seem to get it to look like it was before. 1024x768 looks more like 800x600 and i cant seem to get it back to the original look even when i roll back my drivers to the one i had before.

Some days i just hate friggin computers.

Editors note: This user is a moron. He forgot his new lcd could go up to 1280x1024.

Just slap me stupid. Rolfmao

Alright guys. Sending in College application tomorrow (early decision) SATs are over, and no major exams are coming up. Hopefully i will be able to make a rev to this thread and finally start going again.

Thanks for the patience!

The 81.85 drivers seem to break the dualview mode for users with dual monitor setups, at least under certain circumstances.

So far the only relation I can find between given people having the problem (myself included) is that we have AGP 6800GT 256mb cards and are running at least two monitors at a resolution at or higher than 1280x1024.

Basically, I can install the drivers and run games and use windows just fine as long as I only use the clone mode, which is useless as it displays the same thing on both monitors. The minute I enable dualview the computer hard locks, then proceeds to give me a wonderful blue memory dump screen. I've tried any number of things to fix it, and come up with nothing.

I really wish Nvidia would fix this, as it's been an issue with every single 81. series driver I've tried so far, beta or not.

I've had to revert to the 78.01 drivers to keep my setup working the way I like it.

Has anybody else here had any similar problems?

Heck yes!!!!! Got a 6800 Ultra and everytime I install the 81.85's as soon as I set them up with my 2 monitors it's BAM! BSOD. I've gone back to the 78.01's until this is figured out. Glad to see I'm not the only one!

Well, I'd think since it's something that more than one of us is experiencing then maybe Nvidia will do something about it.

I did a little more digging trying to find a fix but came up with nothing.

Just as you said, I'm glad I'm not the only one getting hit with this.

Same problem here - dualview stopped working with the upgrade. I run a Dell 2405 as my primary monitor and a 17" Samsung as the second one. I disconnected the Samsung for the time being.

Hopefully this is fixed soon...

I've been reading mostly positive things about these newest drivers, at least for single display systems.
Haven't tried them yet though, as there are still a few that say these are all jacked up nad I'm not sure I want to take the chance since I'm not having any issues now. I think I'll just stick with 77.77 drivers for now.

Glad to know the dual view problem wasn't just me as well...My problem was worse as when I went to dual view, my system was completely useless and would not boot afterwards...Went BSOD; attempted to restart itself but hung on welcome screen...All input devices locked up...Had to format and reinstall Winders...Went back to 78.01 myself until problem is rectified...

For those interested, rumor has it the 81.87 Beta drivers that are up on Nvidia's website fix multimonitor issues.

I'll be the guinea pig and test them out tonight.

*edit*

They seem to fix it, at least for basic use. Haven't tested gaming yet, but I have no reason to think they won't work for that too.

I'd recommend everyone who had the dualview problems try the 81.87 beta set. Worked for me!

Hey Gamingphreek...

Why don't you be nice (to me ), and add my XTreme-G Mobile Edition drivers to your list? I'm sure there are some laptop users out there who'd love to squeeze a bit more performance outta their "aging" GPU . I just had to give a plug for my "creation", ya know?

ATI has drivers 5.11 on their home page but when I tried to download them they were 5.10 and the REALEASE NOTES even say 5.10. What the heck is going on?

Has anyone mentioned the 79.11 forcewares yet? I didn't want to check through all the posts, but I do want to give these drivers a HUGE thumbs up. I used to use the 81.85 drivers, and I notice MUCH less shimmering/problems with the 79.11s, plus they cured the texture problems with Guild Wars for me. Performance was on par as well. The 81.85 set was garbage.

Yeah

Tomorrow, after i do a bunch of stuff, i have the evening off. So i think i might sit down and devote a good amount of effort towards updating the thread.

Bear in mind, i WILL NOT finish it tomorrow. I plan on writing a review (with Pics) comparing the 80 series drivers to the 70 series drivers. So there will be a new thread, but it is going to be in bits and pieces (so i dont lose everything i post).

After i finish that, ill buy some webspace from a site my cousin recommended and upload all the files to it.

Doing all this should take a couple days (Very busy weekend) but ill do as much as i can.

Thanks for all the feedback on this thread, and i hope i can make it that much better for you guys in the Rev 3

-Kevin
