Well, after hearing about the Vonage price drop, and being inspired by this thread, I figured it would be helpful to start a referral thread for Vonage.

If any fellow AT'ers are considering joining Vonage, there are several users here that can refer you. There are benefits to this for the new user, and the person referring. If you sign up for Vonage and are referred by an existing user, you get a free month, and the referrer gets two...depending on the service chosen.

Personally, seeing how they just lowered their price to 24.99 for unlimited local and LD, it seems like a no brainer considering the next step down is 500 minutes total for LD and local.

For more information on the Vonage VOIP service, go here.

http://www.vonage.com/

Also, this thread can double as an information thread for current users, new users, and anyone considering the service.

I'm sure there are many happy Vonage customers here, including myself, Amused, and aircooled, so this can be a win-win situation for everyone.

We should probably handle this as follows....

For referrals, a user should post they are interested in signing up, and whoever replies to them first gets the referral. Hopefully, if one or two users start getting a lot of referrals, they will allow some other users to get some referrals.

Thanks Insane3D.

The referral process requires we send you a referral to a valid email address, so be ready to PM your valid email addy that to one of us. The savings is real! and I highly recommend it!

edit: As popular as Vonage is getting...... This deserves a sticky!!!!!

Is the service not available, or just your area code? You can have any area code you want, and with the unlimited LD, it wouldn't really matter unless local people are calling you.

Edit:

From your profile, it says you are in Alabama, and service is available...although only for the Mobile area code (251).

Yep, as long as you have hi-speed internet, you can pick any available area code you want.... give it a look-see, it's worth the savings!!!

It would kind of alienate my local friends.

The only listing for Alabama is the Mobile area code.

Would it? You could call them no? Also, it's 4.99 more a month, but you could just get your own 800 number.

http://www.vonage.com/features.php?feature=toll_free

Also, you might want to give them a call. If they add your area code in the future, they will automatically change your numbers area code to the one you want as soon as it's available.

I know nothing about packet8, but Vonage has been incredible for me, and the price keeps getting lower.

Shoot me a PM if you need a referral. I highly recommend it.

Actually my first month's fee was more than the rest, but that's why the referral helps out so much

Free... sorta.

4.6 Disconnect Fee
Customer will be charged a disconnect fee of $39.99 per voice line upon termination of Service for any reason or for convenience by Customer. The disconnect fee becomes due and payable immediately upon termination and will billed directly to Customer's credit card. If Customer has multiple lines, Customer will be charged a disconnect fee of $39.99 per line for each line disconnected. To receive a credit for the disconnect fee, Customer must return the Device(s) undamaged and in original condition within fourteen (14) days of termination as set forth in Section 1.8. Vonage will not credit Customer if the Device(s) is damaged or not in its original condition as received by the Customer or if Customer has otherwise failed to comply fully with the requirements of Section 1.8. In the event Customer disconnects multiple lines, Vonage will issue Customer a credit for all disconnect fees upon receipt of all Devices (including without limitation Multimedia Terminal Adapters) in accordance with this Section and Section 1.8.

I still love my Vonage though.

Hence why I said keep all the original packaging above. It's technically free...if you cancel, you just send it back and there will be no charge. If you dumped Vonage, it would be essentially useless anyhow...
