Russian arms sold to Iraq? possibly anti-tank weapons

First of all, before this war only 1 M-1 Abrahms has been knocked out of commision. Many have been knocked out of commision already in one week of fighting.
An RPG bounces off them as if it were nothing. The M-1 has very tough armor made of depleted uranium, but it also has some reactive armor that is designed to explode when hit. Maybe that doesn't make sense, but it repels certain objects that hit it very well. An internet search would do a better job of explaining it than me though.

Anyway, my point is that an RPG, which Iraq has, won't knock one out, but Russian anti-tank weapons can. Many might have come to Iraq through Syria, but I can't provide a link right now. Maybe later.

From what I've heard, the M1's that have been knocked out have been hit from behind, in their engine. Usually tankers position themselves so their fron is the only part facing the enemy, but the sandstorms this week enabled Iraqi's to sneak around from behind and knock the tanks out. They knew where to hit.

And even so, the tanks were only damaged and not destroyed. They were knocked out of commision since the engine was gone, but the tank's main armor was not penetrated. The crews all got out safely. The only reason they were disabled was because the Iraqi's got around from behind.

CNN will run story in a few minutes about what happened as @ 1,000 women and children tried to cross a bridge from "militia" controlled area to a US controlled one. (Basra)

A 4 whl truck came onto the bridge and opened fire with machine guns, a british tank engaged and destroyed thevehicle along with 3 Fed heads, apparently they have been picking their own people off as they try to escape over the bridge....

where are the anti-war people crying about innocent civilians???

I'm not anti-war but I feel compelled to point out to you that the incident you referred to happened while the war the anti-war people are against is going on.

Please compell yourself to understand things of this nature have been happening to Iraqi's for decades. For those that argue the loss of innocent life is not worth the effort, I would argue that the safety of 27,000,000 outweighs the loss of a few thousand, especially when more than that have already been victimized. The greatest immoral act is to do nothing in the name of this brutality, to protest this makes me wonder about someone's true humanity.

Oh...ok...so it *is* the fault of the coalition that innocent civilians are being killed. I see...it's not the fault of the barbaric Iraqi troops who seek to suppress the populace.

So I guess Syria is next.........like some Middle Eastern countries have said.

U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld issued a warning to Syria Friday, saying it would be held accountable for shipments of military equipment -- including night-vision goggles -- that have been moved across the border into Iraq.

These deliveries pose a direct threat to the lives of coalition forces. We consider such trafficking as hostile acts and will hold the Syrian government accountable for such shipments," Rumsfeld said at a Pentagon briefing.

Rumsfeld also warned any country against sending any "military forces, intelligence personnel or proxies" into Iraq that are not under the control of Gen. Tommy Franks, chief of the U.S. Central Command.

While I think Syria should stop supplying Iraq, many Middle Eastern countries have maintained the US would not stop with Iraq but instead look for a reason to go into Syria and Iran next. Looks like Syria is willing to oblige.

But...from that article:

Saddam's regime was using much of Iraq's burgeoning oil revenue to improve the daily lives of its people. It even won UN humanitarian awards for its literacy programs.

and

In the 1980's, our Arab allies in the region and our own assessment convinced us that Iraq might be a new kind of moderate Arab leader, that [Saddam] could be brought into the moderate Arab camp," said New York Times reporter Patrick Tyler.

But then we found out that Saddam Hussein wasn't our patsy, that he actually had a mind of his own. Can't have that, now can we? Oh no, he's threatening Kuwait, a country ruled by some rich oil shieks who are on our payroll. That's gonna hurt our bottom line, can't have that. Ok, let's go kick Saddam out of Kuwait. Now let's impose brutal sanctions on Iraq for 10 years and send this country, who was once the most progressive and modern nation in the whole Middle East, back into the stone age and create another poor, religiously fanatic nation of angry muslim arabs who hate the US.
