well if this chem weapon plant is confirmed and everything he will have egg on his face.

I guess he hasn't been listening to CNN while at the oscars.

You don't know about Michael Moore's Academy winner documentary "Bowling for Columbine." Do you?
If you know it just a bit, you will understand why he did it.

oh i know exactly why he did it. just the fervor with which he went off and the resounding cheers and boos that followed, that's what caught me off guard.

In response to the title, I dont think there have been 50 casualties, I think its less.

2nd time, Casualty in the military sense is not DEAD, its someone who needs medical assistance or cannot carry on without assistance

CNN: US secures facility that MAY have produced chem weapons
"We are continuing to look for weapons of mass destruction," Abizaid said. "We have received reports from various prisoners that have given us leads. Suffice it to say that we continue to look, but so far we haven't found any conclusive evidence. We are confident that we will find it."

While I would love for Bush's facade to be unmasked . . . I would prefer to find Saddam's stash (including production facilities). Maybe FOXNews is right and this facility is indeed a former if not current chem weapons factory. But I don't think FOX or the Jerusalem Post (albeit their embed is present) discovered it. So considering this handiwork was dutifully performed by the 3rd and they are in direct communication with CENTCOM . . . as long as they are guardedly optimistic . . . claims from FOX et al should be considered specious at best.

maybe we should just wait for saddam to use some of his WMD? maybe we can send all the skeptics over there and have them be with our troops and see if they break a sweat when they get shelled cause they dont know whats in those shells...maybe...oh forget it...just keep watching cnn

Maybe this, maybe that...you don't declare war over maybe. I don't see anyone up in arms over the fact that MAYBE NK will vaporize Seoul next week.

So we should declare this as a Chemical Weapons Factory for our convenience? Skepticism is good, it prevents people from making claims they'll later have to correct. Remember the SCUDs?

NK has a history of doing what they are doing, and we have forces very close, who are monitoring them...I have a really good feeling that Bush had conclusive info on a direct threat to us, and thats why we are doing this

claims from FOX et al should be considered specious at best.

they're only specious if you believe saddam's claims he destroyed the wmd his puppets declared in 1998.

its also specious, if you believe the iraqi propanda claims that they cannot 'prove a negative', a negative,
of course, which they created by claiming to have destroyed every wmd they had produced up to that point
(1998) without producing a shred of verifiable evidence to support their case.

and its also specious if you beleive that in the interim, since the last inspector were booted out in 1998,
saddam and his ba'ath cronies turned into flower children and the only chemical they have been playing
with since then is of the talcam variety.

British military officials said on Monday that two British soldiers were missing after coming under attack in southern Iraq. "We can confirm that two soldiers are reported missing following an attack on British vehicles in southern Iraq," a British official at Central Command in Iraq told Reuters.

"Efforts are being made to find them and recover them," the official said

Just coming in.

anyone else bothered that the press is making a huge deal out of every missing person or person killed? I understand why...but if we make a big deal out of everything like that that happens, then people are going to start thinking this was a bad idea, in previous wars, we lost thousands of people a day, and I guarentee that the press didnt do all that publicity for every one of those soldiers

I agree

Much of this discussion is reminescent of our UN presentations/dossiers . . . why take a legitimate argument and weigh it down with BS that can be easily refuted?!

I saw Rumsfeld give an unqualified assessment that ZERO Scuds had been fired or found in Iraq. He also noted the missile fired into Iran was Iraqi. My point . . . both accounts were WIDELY disseminated in the media as being the exact opposite . . . well except for the missile fired into Iran . . . FOX took a pass on reporting the original story but did report the US military perspective that it was Iraqi NOT American.

Al Jazeera has a unique albeit biased perspective on covering this conflict. FOXNews is definitely NOT unique but EXPLICITLY biased in its reporting. Everything they say should be independently verified from a more objective source but I don't consider MSNBC, CNN, CNBC, NBC, ABC, or CBS sufficiently objective to count.

The CIA Factbook lists Iraq's top two industries . . . petroleum and chemicals. This camouflaged facility occupied 100 acres and may very well produce Saddam's nastiness. The questions that need answering: 1) are there WMD onsite, 2) when is the last time WMD was produced there, 3) was WMD ever produced there? Until answers are provided . . . FOX and JP are propaganda merchants . . . granted even if they get this one right it is quite reasonable to call them propaganda merchants.

Some of those cars are driving pretty damn fast on the Baghdad video feed. Like at least 100, maybe 120 :Q Well if I was still in Baghdad, I think I would be driving like that to get out of the city too!

Apparently you don't understand what specious means . . . I don't regularly read the Jerusalem Post so I must be wary of linking them to FoxNews . . . plus I believe their embed was the original source of the story. FOX packages opinion as news. It is presented from a POV which colors commentary to the degree that real events and facts become a story which no longer represents reality. It's not even as simple as 'reality is in the eye of the beholder' . . . even when FOX has the facts in hand they will present ONLY the elements consistent with a preconceived position.

Hence, I need NONE of the preconditions you stated for FOX reports to be considered specious . . . their speciousness is a product of their activity. Accordingly, Saddam's argument that he cannot prove a negative is also specious. They never had to prove the absence of WMD per se . . . they were suppose to show what happened to the material that previously existed including precursors. Aldouri is absolutely right when he says Iraq cannot prove what cannot be proven. The typical Fox anchor is absolutely right that Saddam is a lying POS. The former is not proof that Iraq has no WMD while the latter is not proof that it does.
