wtf? Peasants?

----------------------------------------------
BAGHDAD, Iraq ¡X Iraq claimed Monday to have shot down two Apache helicopters and to hold two pilots prisoner.

"A small number of peasants shot down two Apaches," Information Minister Mohammed Saeed al-Sahhaf said. "Perhaps we will show pictures of the pilots."

Iraqi state television showed pictures of only one downed helicopter in a grassy field.

Men in Arab headdresses holding Kalashnikovs automatic rifles danced around the aircraft.

Iraqi state television also showed pictures of two helmets apparently belonging to members of the crew, as well as documents and other papers lying on the ground.

Sahhaf said that the government would consider displaying the other helicopter it claimed to have shot down.

U.S. Central Command said it did not have any comment on the footage. A military spokesman said officials were analyzing the images.

The report of the downed helicopters and new prisoners of war came only one day after al-Jazeera showed video images of five American prisoners of war captured in fighting near the southern Iraqi city of Nasiriyah.

"Yesterday was a black day and the black days will increase," the spokesman said.

U.S. ground forces have begun engaging the elite Iraqi Republican Guard that ring Baghdad, launching helicopter attacks Sunday night against the Guard's Medina division, a senior military official said.

The helicopter shown on television Monday showed little if any signs of damage, suggesting it had been forced to land by mechanical problems rather than ground fire.

Yup. That's why I asked.

Not to mention those Iraqi soldiers who pretend as though they are surrendering.

"Peasants" shooting down a plane just doesn't sound right, though.

I hope they don't actually think that anyone believes that those fools shot down 2 AH-64's with no more than AK-47's and some old bolt-action rifles.
Maybe they have serious AAA hiding around there.

I wonder why the chopper(s) haven't been destoyed yet, preferably with those idiots around it. The Army would have to have at least some idea as to it's location.

That saddam video proved nothing to me. I still think that freak of nature is either seriously wounded, or dead. Hopefully the latter.

Another Apache drops. And we hear news about more dead US soldiers all the time. Of course more iraqi people die at the same time but that doesn't mean that the US casualties would be any more "acceptable".

I don't mean this any offence to any american people discussing the subject but looking from an european point of view this war with Iraq seems a lot like the Vietnam war. I definetily hope that there will be little casualties to both sides but I think the US government have underestimated Iraq. I hope that the war will be over soon but can't help to think what happens if everything doesn't go as planned.

How many casualties are american people willing to accept? How many billions of dollars are american people willing to spend on this war without starting to think if there would be any better use for it?

I just don't understand why majority of the US people are behind this war. There is no UN approval and I can't see why young american people would wan't to risk their lives for something that is so controversial as this crisis is. If I were american, I would definetily be against this war. The faces of the terrified US war prisoners (don't know if that is the right term) should definetily tell something.

But then again, I'm not american so i guess I just can't see it the way you americans do. Good luck, let's hope that the so-called "liberation" of Iraq goes as planned and world peace comes. woohoo.

Dude, WTF?? Warn ppl next time before you post crap like this!

Hey all,
Sorry for the lack of warning, thought the collateral damage link title would be self-explanatory.
For all the pro-war people, just wondering how y'all would react to someone near and dear to you being killed as brutally by someone trying to 'liberate' you :\.

Still haven't seen anyone giving a credible and truthful reason for the war to begin with.
I don't think this has been posted here anti-war / pro-war debate

1. take it to the antiwar debate thread
2. if i dug around I know I could pull up some pictures of casualties from WWII that show some Eurpeans that got killed by our bombs, so were we wrong for "liberating them"?
3. anti war people dont just need their own thread, they need their own island...I recomend that one in the atlantic that the navy uses for target practice

Asan Akbar is the name of the soldier accused of throwing the grenades into the tent that killed one and injured 15. Nobody with a name like Asan Akbar should be in the US military unless he has 4 generations of US history behind him.

This political correctness will be the USA's undoing.

Well, if they actually tried to do something to protect against things like this happening (doing more research before letting in people who might be terrorists), the liberals would give their standard PC and discrimination BS.

Good to see a group looking out for what really matters in the rebuilding of Iraq.
link
Steve Mosher, head of the Population Research Institute, is especially wary of USAID and its liberal approach towards the issues of condom use and abortion.
"As soon as the dust settles after the conflict, (USAID will) be sending in the condom pushers and the sex educators," Mosher said. "There is the view at USAID that we need to remake these societies in the image of Hollywood or in the image of Manhattan. (That) we need to attack the patriarchal family."

OTOH, if inspections had been allowed to continue, it's very likely that such a plant would have been discovered eventually.

I knew it! 'eventually' Puh-leeze!! That is such a lame response. When is eventually? A month, year, decade? And just what atrocities would Saddam have performed in that timeframe. And how do you know it would have been found. 12 years later and it hadn't been.

conjur, don't let that idiot get under your skin. His only agenda is anti-US. Look at his response to a post of mine earlier in this thread.

What was Saddams FIRST action when the gulf war was suspended giving him the chance to start proving his new ways? He SLAUGHTERED some more of his own people, using helicopters the UN so WISELY let him keep... Wonders why we would ever trust their judgement, it's not as if they haven't been shown to be slow to react before

Why was America criticized by the French for taking so long to participate in ww2? Yes we knew there was a dictator who was using methods of mass genocide, we have to come to realize our error and apologize, we should have acted sooner. We are trying to make up for this mistake right now but are rather confused by your hypocrisy...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sandorski..
Hmm, the US Commander, Schwartkof(sp), chose not to intercept the helicopters. Lay blame at the right feet.

Notice how he lays the blame for Saddam committing genocide at the feet of a US general, god forbid Saddam should be held accountable for ordering the action.

He has been whining for weeks about the US not acting within UN resolutions, decrying the aboslute essential need for UN approval, not relying on the UN when it suits your needs or interests. In 1991 when the Gulf War was PAUSED by UN resolution, the US and the other 30 countries participating militarily, including his (canada), were instructed by the UN to disengage and not use force unless attacked. This is when Saddam attacked the Kurds. Sandorski feels in this case the US SHOULD HAVE VIOLATED the UN resolution and assisted the Kurds. Notice he doesn't place the blame on any other country, especially his own, that could have also violated the resolution and helped.

So in this war he feels UN resolutions should have been heeded, yet in the last he felt they should be violated, sounds to me like he feels UN resolutions should only be obeyed when it agress with his particualr perspective. This blatant hypocrisy makes your arguement rather comical, but not nearly as funny as how much you hate the US. Your bias blinded you, in your rush to place blame on the US (for Saddam committing genocide no less) you contradicted yourself, maybe you should re-examine the way you process information. If your prejudice against the US consumes you to the point that you can't even make a valid arguement without casting the glare of hypocrisy on yourself you are gong to continue to make a fool of yourself.
