it's merely an expression of how stretched my patience for soccer has already become.

this is certainly the most sustained attention (~3 weeks) I have given the sport in my life.

Brasil/Netherlands AND Germany/Argentina will be very interesting!

Ghana could win, would be good for African game.

I read about an interesting fact: ever since 1962. the world cup winners have alternated between S. America and Europe: Brazil, England, Brazil, Germany, Argentina, Italy, Argentina, Germany, Brazil, France, Brazil, Italy, ???

Given the performance of S.A. teams on this W.C. (4/5 are in 1/4 finals, and the 1 out (Chile) lost to Brazil), it seems destined that Brazil/Argentina will win it, maybe Uruguay, Paraguay has slim chance. I'd still love it if Spain or Netherlands would win the cup, purely because they've never been world champions and have had top teams for decades.

Well, Spain is playing very well (better than Brazil for sure) and they did win Euro 2008, so I wont be surprised... Brazil will probably reach the final only because the entire left bracket sucks, no offense to Holland... But playing the way they did so far, they cant beat Argentina/Germany/Spain

No European team has ever won outside of Europe, so I am going with Brazil.

On a side note, does anyone find it annoying how all these commentators call America, "Americur"?

I've gotten used to it watching football over the years. They call Kaká "Kakur", Dida (former Brazil and current AC Milan goalkeeper) "Dider", and just generally pronounce anything ending with a "soft A" sound like it ends with "er".

I know this is a World Cup thread but I just heard that Thierry Henry signed with the New York Red Bulls. Can't any of these guys play in the MLS while they can still play? I'm still glad that he signed though, and hope he still got some left in him.

I agree and I'd probably do the same, but I hate the fact that these guys use MLS to collect their retirement checks.

On the other hand, I kinda hope more American players sign with tier 1 foreign leagues. Means they're getting higher level experience for better competitiveness in future World Cups. It's a double-edged sword.

I'm pulling for the Netherlands now that the US and Italy are out. They've never won one and have always been one of the better teams in the world. I think they're due and deserve it.

Plus, I love the old offside trap they used to play waaaaay back in the day. Only seen it on tape, it was before I was old enough to watch.
