Eh, missed calls were probably even, but I saw more actual dives from the Brazilians. Kaka throwing his arms up everytime he lost the ball, lots of whining, plus near the end they got really ugly.

Watching the first half I thought it was going to be a blowout for Brazil, but wow, they completely crapped the bed in the second half. It was brutal.

KT

True. Every single foul on Robben was well-deserved. He embellishes but he was definitely fouled on every call. There definitely was some diving in this game, but not any more than any other WC game I've seen (and I've seen almost all of them), but there was a lot more in the way of hard challenges.

Great game by Holland, although their lack of finish by anyone not named Wesley worries me.

Only watched the second half as I am still working today and can only take a little time off to watch pieces of both games today across the street at my local pub.

I must say it was a decent game. Robyn, I think that is their forward right striker, was definitely over flopping and diving for the Dutch. Fairly annoying. From what I saw in the second half, he didn't many calls his ways for the flopping except for the free kick that led to the first Dutch goal. However, that being said, the defender did come in from the side and slightly behind for a slide tackle. While the tackle was all ball, the fact is the defender still made contact with Robyn, although that was because Robyn was in the air and coming down and brushed him, so that technically is a foul. You can not slide from behind or the side and make any physical contact with the player. It must be all ball or it is a foul by the rules. The fact that Robyn dived to oversell it was annoying as hell, but oh well.

The goal was still a good goal. From what I saw of the officiating of the second half, it looked damn good to me. The ref didn't miss many calls, and when there was fouls from contact he made them correctly. At least from every replay I watched.

The first goal was a bit of a lucky break though for the Dutch because the defender ran into the keeper. To the person that said the keeper should not have been there, it is the other way around. Playing a keeper for over 20 years, the one most adamant rule is the box belongs to the keeper. As a defender you NEVER get in the keepers way. Otherwise goals like that happen. The keeper was stopped by his own defender from being able to get his hands where they needed to be to block the shot. Piss poor defense by Brazil there.

The second goal from the Dutch though was amazing. That double header off the corner was WOW! Pure amazing play and goal. Which made the Dutch actually look good, because they didn't seem all that talented while playing. The goal Brazil made against them in the first half made the Dutch look like a middle school team from the states. They got taken to school badly on that goal.

One thing I did notice on the second half was all the late hits the Brazilian players were doing. That red card was definitely deserved and one of the few deserving red cards I've seen in the world cup so far. Those un-sportsman like actions need to be taken elsewhere. After the Brazilian ended up behind the Dutch, it seemed like they were playing a game of ball in their neighborhood with no refs. Which brought out some fouls by the Dutch for which they were called. However, the poor conduct from Brazil was completely unwarranted and has no place in professional sports.

That said, I am surprised that the Dutch won as the Brazilian team I could easily tell was more talented and had the better players. The fielded the ball better, handled the ball better, and kept possession more with way more shots on goal. Which all means the Dutch goalie also did an amazing job as well. All in all it was a good game to watch in the end.

Thanks Melo for messing up Cesar's save and allowing the equalizer. Everything downhill from there.

Oh and thanks again Melo for letting your team down later on with the stupid stupid red.

Listening to the match this morning on the radio, the ESPN commentator summed up Melo's performance by saying "he's had a full day!"

Compare to the nba, its so refreshing to see the refs try to call the game fairly and treat favorites and stars on the same level as everyone else. That's not to say they always get it right (altho I thought they were awesome in brasil/neth.), but none of this 'benefit of the doubt' BS that permeates the nba game.

eat a dick, brazil!

i'm glad the dutch won. i don't care about dutch soccer, but i don't like brazil... i definitely respect them as an amazing team who USED to play entertaining soccer (for some dumbass reason, dunga decided not to bring ronaldo and ronaldinho to the world cup team... wtf?). however, they're like the yankees of soccer.

Let's go Uruguay! Ghana has some big players out (stupid 2 yellow card rule ), so I don't think they have much of a chance.

I hate that rule too. If you really want to punish the player, fine him or something. Don't force a team to play in such a big game without their best players. That's garbage.

I've always liked the rule for that particular reason. They don't deserve to play if they can't play with proper conduct...and the whole team has to suffer the consequences.

Meh, I could personally care less who actually wins anymore. I grew up for a few years, from 3 to 9 years old, in the Netherlands so maybe I'll lean a bit more support for them over anyone else at this point. Other than that, I'm personally looking to watch good matches. Here's hoping the Uruguay and Ghana match end up a good one. Personally I think Ghana is going to be blown out, but who knows.

They are not playing because Ronaldo is to old(not to mention bad knees) and Ronaldinho isn't that good any more....

The Ghanan uni makes them all look like ads for McDonalds. Since the Netherlands advanced can Fifa allow the orange mini's to make a comeback?

That's a poor card.

...ooohhhh...did they change the two-card rule? I don't remember two yellows over two games resulting in an ejection from the next That does suck afterall. Maybe it's just been that way for a long time, and I wasn't paying attention.

edit: I guess it's been that way for a while. Shows how long I've been out of the game.

Ghana is playing rough, but they are getting to the goal so I am not so sure about the outcome yet.
