Old comics fan here:
Never been a real big fan of team books, but loved X-men in the rare times it was good (Chris Claremont era etc.) My expectations were low for this movie as sequals usually suck and the first movie (which I enjoyed) was mediocre.
UFCK THAT! - this movie was very good and perhaps great. (I'm a nit picky pain in da a$$ kinda guy) Solid in all aspects, no weak spots at all. Always room to nitpick, but I admit its mostly personal tastes for me and not movie flaws.
This movie is hands down better than Matrix2. I was ready for the opposite, I thought it was Matrix2 which wold blow me away and X2 would just be OK. NOPE. Matrix reloaded is good, above average for Sci-fi (no that that says much) but not very good or great. The first was better. X2 was a much better, much more fun movie.
As for the personal nit picks, well one reason I don't like team books is that most charecters are window dressing most of the time and only one or a few are being developed. Each character gets 2 or 3 issues out of each 15 or so and the rest of the time is filler. The exception being who ever is popular at the moment, ie: usually wolverine.
So Wolvie is popular, i can deal even tho i think he's been largely ruined... so he gets the bulk of charecter development in the movie. Ole "one eye" is just a prop (he never is well written which is why no one likes him). They are moving rather fast with the Pheonix. It looks like they are going to pack years worth of Pheonix/ Dark Pheonix stuff from X-men and X-factor into one and a half movies. Yeesh. I am assuming they are going to skip the doppelganger Jean Grey stuff and not fine the "real" Jean in a capsul under the water... I miss beast and Angle, but can deal. The cameos were cool. I like how the handle Wolvie comming around (works considering its only a trilogy). So many hotties I don't even care about the lack of developed female charecters.
well I could babble on but who the hell wants to read my drivel. Anyway I think they made good movie choices, so I don't care about inconsistencies with the comics (I mean its not like the comics bother to be consistent within themselves...) I wish there was more consequences for the ideological differences within the X-men (wolvie is slaughtering people and no one seems to care - then again the "bad" guys are protrayed as mindless evil robots so I guess no one should care) It would be nice to see more dynamics between the charecters too, but I admit that would be hard in just a 2 hour movie.
anyway I am really looking forward to Hulk (a differnt kind of movie by a different kind of film maker) and have hope that Spider-man sequals will be good (the first one was not that great, but I didn't care because Spidey will always be my FAV).
keep the banter going, I like the different impressions and comments in this thread.
