Hopefully Jasper shows up at my Target soon. Next week they have a $20 gift card if you buy a 360 Arcade.

To the best of my knowledge, you can use an older power supply with a newer console - the console will only pull the power it needs.

The opposite does not apply - an older console cannot use a newer power supply because it does not provide enough power.

To account for this, MS changes the connector configuration to ensure that you cannot plug a 175w PSU into a Zephyr (which needs 203w). Based on previous posts, it appears that they have done the same thing with the 150w PSU - it cannot be plugged into a Xenon, Zephyr, or Falcon.

I believe that you should be able to use a 175w or even a 203w PSU with the Jasper console, but haven't actually confirmed that.

Edited to add: - Sorry, I think you might have been asking if it is possible to have a console with a Jasper motherboard and a Falcon PSU in the same retail box. While this has not yet been confirmed with the Jaspers, this definitely happened with the first Falcons. This threw people off the trail in the beginning. The assumption is that MS was just using up their stock of older PSUs.

I saw a 0842X pro holiday bundle at the local BB.

It had "XBOX 360 ARCADE SYSTEM VALUE BUNDLE 2008 E" sticker on it as well...
But when I peeked at the amps through the window....it read 14.2 amps...So I'm conflicted now

Has anyone got a disguised Jasper yet?

I wouldn't risk it based on that "value bundle 2008" sticker alone, that could apply to Falcons as well. I would try to wait it out until you find one labelled 12.1a.

Guys Jaspers are popping up in 842x FDOU also with the older power brick (175watts) so dont base it off that too.

BUT it does have onboard 256mb... go figure.. its quieter than my falcon with talismoons... I just got back from wal-mart as well with a arcade 0843x FDOU 10-23-2008 MFR in Corry PA.

PSU says 150w 12.1A

No memory card in box

Console says 12.1A also

Value Bundle E sticker as well

Only one they had in these specs, 7 other arcades MFR 10-17-2008

Odds it's a Jasper 99% whish i could be 100% like moddage and why do i say that, maybe because of the big white sticker that says JASPER on his mother board.

Gonna get an amp reading, please check back from conclusion.

Queasy, have you even read this thread or seen the pics of Jaspers? We already know the new arcade Jaspers have 256MB. Most likely it is to allow NXE to be (pre) installed on arcades, or just due to 16MB chips actually costing more than 256MB chips.

The question is: do NON-arcade Jaspers have 256MB as well?

So I got a Pro from "They City" in Henrietta NY. Team:CSON, Lot 841X, 10-15-08, and the wattage shows as 14.2 on both the sticker on the unit and the PSU, and the connector for the PSU has the falcon type. It does have the sticker which reads "XBOX 360 Pro SYSTEM VALUE BUNDLE 2008 E/ES" on the side, keep that in mind with the Pros.

I may run over to wally world tomorrow and check out the stickers on their boxes, see what they've got in stock.

I, too did a search in Northern Va yesterday and today. Latest I saw was 0841-lots in the mid 0830's. Went to 2 best buys (one which must have had a 100), 2 Wall marts (the latest was at one of these), two targets (one had none) and two gamestops.

Alas, I will continue my quest for the illusive Jasper! I will not be denied!!!!

Will go on Monday to see if I can master the "peek through the hole to see the wattage trick".

Later.

Possible Jasper hit!

Location: Fry's Electronics in Fremont, CA
XBox 360 Arcade
Lot No: 0842X
Team: FDOU

The PSU states the 175W of Falcon, but the unit itself has a sticker above the female power connector that states 12.1A on the +12V rail, the same as Jasper. So the PSU is that of Falcon, but the console itself has a sticker of Jasper. Can anyone confirm whichever one I have?

In an unrelated note, this thing sure is energy efficient. My computer's PSU has 40A on the 12v rail!

While my wife was out shopping today, I sent her a picture of the peek-through amperage rating... to my amazement she came home with a 360 Arcade lot 0842X, team FDOU, dated 2008-10-14 and an amperage rating of 12.1A. No included memory card. So, I'm pretty sure it's Jasper. The only odd thing is that the power brick is still rated for 175W; must have been still using up old inventory. I haven't hooked it up yet, and I'm semi-considering to take it back tomorrow, because I'd prefer the 150W brick. Opinions?

In case you are interested, it came from the Target on Coleman Ave. in San Jose, CA.

What turns out to be a fairly reliable way to identify a Jasper is the power inlet of the xbox: http://i3.photobucket.com/albu...box360_Model_Guide.jpg

Jasperhunter, maybe it's nice to put that picture up in the first post?

Hi Guys, please excuse me if I ask a question that has been answered. I think I have read every page, but may have missed a post.

Will this added 256mb be on every SKU? Will the Elites and Pro's also have it?

Also, have any Elite Jaspers been spotted?

They chance of me being able to get the LOT number before purchase may be slim as the game stores in the UK don't let anyone near the boxes until just after you hand the cash over. Still gonna try though, might get a sympathetic employee.

Many thanks to everyone for all the contributions.

Can I ask, when someone gets a Jasper Arcade from Play.com or Amazon UK, could they post here please. As I am having no luck with local retailers, Asda only had consoles made in August.

Also for some reason this thread has stopped notifying me by email of new replies too. Strange, I am logged in as I am posting now.

It is in the first post, although maybe I should make it more clear that is the best way to ID.

That said, 12.1A on the console OR a 150W PSU is pretty much a guarantee. A few Jaspers may slip through with older labels or older PSUs as they transition the lines and use up old stock.

First post updated with a summary of information we know with regards to IDing Jasper.

Is it just me or did we lose a lot of my SeattlePI peeps right after Jasper was found?

MS will probably include the internal 256MB on all systems since it would probably cost them more to make two different motherboards. Nobody knows for sure until a Pro or Elite is found though. As far as I know, they've all been arcades so far, but this is most likely a function of the arcade being higher selling. Arcades have almost always been the highest lot numbers, at least since we've been hunting.

It's possible, although I doubt it, that Microsoft is specifically targeting Jasper to the Arcades first since it's a cost saving measure to not include a separate memory card. I kind of doubt this and think it's more related to the fact that we haven't found any Pros and Elites from the right manufacturing lot.

Incredible story! My fiance makes fun of me on a regular basis for this whole Jasper business. I'm pretty sure I could never convince her to actually look herself, although after a little eye rolling, she will accompany me to Best Buy/Walmart/wherever to hunt myself.

I thought I found a bunch of Elite japers in San Jose Frys.
They were 843x october 21 but they all were 14A.
So I'm pretty sure they are not Jasper.

The Man. date doesn't mean much because I saw some 843x Arcades
with a Man. date of 10-15-08 that were 12A Jasper.
