Will this added 256mb be on every SKU? Will the Elites and Pro's also have it?

Also, have any Elite Jaspers been spotted?

They chance of me being able to get the LOT number before purchase may be slim as the game stores in the UK don't let anyone near the boxes until just after you hand the cash over. Still gonna try though, might get a sympathetic employee.

Many thanks to everyone for all the contributions.

I thought I found a bunch of Elite japers in San Jose Frys.
They were 843x october 21 but they all were 14A.
So I'm pretty sure they are not Jasper.

The Man. date doesn't mean much because I saw some 843x Arcades
with a Man. date of 10-15-08 that were 12A Jasper.

Those Elites could be Jaspers, despite the 14.2A label. At least one Jasper has been found that was labeled as such. Similarly, many early Falcons were labeled 16.5A (like Zephyr).

I've been holding out to buy an xbox for jasper. I'm in Beijing, China and don't want to build a computer at this point so instead I'm wanting to buy a 360 and save money. Is anyone else here from Beijing on know where to find out what lot number they are at. I think they get theirs shipped from other countries so they should be a bit behind. I'm not really sure where would have a large supply of them. I found a site a while ago where people post the information like lot number, manufacture date and where they bot it but i can't seem to find it now.

People from Connecticut please report your findings. I can tell you now to avoid all 6 Gamestop matches when you type in zip code 06517. Also avoid Branford Walmart, Hamden Walmart, CC on Universal Drive, Frys on Universal Drive, Best Buy on Universal Drive.

I get a reading of 89w at the set up screen.

An update,

DC area Targets have Jaspers, $20 gift included, final price 179.99

FDOU 842X
10-18-08
It has the 2008 bundle sticker on the box.
12.1 amps
The power supply has slots in the top for better air flow
No memory card in box

The target I got mine at this morning had 3 more.
Put a kill a watt on it

dash board = 89-90 watts

As time permits will post more kill a watt data

Jasperhunter I can fully sympathise with the girlfriend thing. Mine is the same. Just showed her your post and we had a little chuckle. Also, I came here from the Seattle thread, but I agree that we have lost a few. More importantly though, we lost the idiots.

I would fully expect a couple of Jaspers to come with the older power supply and so there will be a fair few people out there with one that think they only have a Falcon.

It is a real pity that none of the other SKUs are showing Jaspers. I much prefer the Elite colour, it reminds me of my original Xbox.

@the UK guy posting regarding Asda Play.com etc, you may have seen the posts from me before on either this or the Seattle thread regarding the difficulty I have had trying to even get to a box so I can inspect the LOT number. My Asda has them in a glass cabinet behind the sales staff but they have always been really busy when I go in and they wouldn't have the time. The game shops always have them out of sigt due to shoplifters. I do keep trying though, and if I get any LOTs I will post here.

Seems like it. I was at the seattle blog since page 1, and I'm still here now even though I have a Jasper. The hunt isn't over until everyone gets their hands on one!

Bullet68 - sweet deal finding Jaspers at Target with the $20 gift card!

Peachy001- "Will this added 256mb be on every SKU? Will the Elites and Pro's also have it?"

My best guess is that only arcades will have this feature. Arcade consoles were originally coming with a free 256mb card in the box. Pros and Elites have plenty of harddrive space so I don't imagine Microsoft going through the expense of adding the memory to those consoles as well.

Anyways, an update on my Jasper, the air coming out the back is still pretty darn warm after playing a few races in GRID. Having a fresh Microsoft warranty is a blessing and a curse, I'm glad I have a warranty but at the same time I want to rip this thing open and mod it to improve airflow like I've done with all my past consoles.

I know what you mean about them not needing to add the on board 256MB, but I just can't see them fooling about with more than 1 motherboard.

You've said that before, but I don't think it's true. There's no reason they can't use one motherboard for all three systems and just have different population options. Leave the memory off, maybe put on a 0-ohm configuration resistor to tell the BIOS/firmware that it's not populated.

HOWEVER, since the system firmware does require some onboard storage, and the system had at least 16meg before, they will probably just bump everything up to the 256meg.

So I think you are right that it's included, but I think your reasoning is way off base.

As I just said, they wouldn't have to.

and wow, this xbox is definitely much cooler and quieter running then the ones ive seen in the past (zephyr/launch, falcon, etc).

This 360 had its warranty seal broke and some of the vent holes are twisted, like they had been pryed about. The tape on the dvd was perfect.

I suspect the factory might have reused a metal case from another xbox. I bought this new from Target, but i believe it had been opened and they never removed the dvd or they put fresh tape on the dvd?????

I had an original xbox360 that died just a few days ago. I am going to add some more airflow to this one and maybe I will get a little more than life out of this one than my old one did.

Bullet68 - please post on somewhere less bothersome than rapidshare. Maybe picasa, flckr, etc.

chdude3 - 256mb of flash is really really cheap these days. I firmly believe it would cost them more to make motherboards with varying amounts of flash than it will be to just include 256mb all around. As I said before, only time will tell.

Peachy - glad you enjoyed the story

Sounds like a return to me. Possibly involved in a mod attempt, maybe even a DVD-ROM swap.

Zuke, you should post pics of your male PSU plug & female end on the xbox itself....

Are you saying you have an Elite?

Thanks to everyone who has worked on this thread. I've been lurking and gathering info for weeks. First at PI and then here. My March 2006 Core RROD'd on Wednesday. Coffin is on its way but I've been wanting to upgrade to HDMI for a while now, so I've had my eye out for an Arcade Jasper.

I just got back from Target with what I believe to be a Jasper Arcade pack.

Store: Target
Location: Anderson, SC

TEAM: FDOU
LOT NO:0842X
No MU included in Box
12A on 12V According to stickers on back of console (was able to see through SN window to confirm this before buying - 1 Probable Jasper still in cabinet)
Sticker Type: "Value Bundle 2008 E"
Power Port: Broken "Bar" at top. Matches "Jasper" model in the diagram.
AC Adapter: 175W.

Question. Is there any reason why I would care whether I get the 150W or the 175W? Is there any kind of noise difference? I've seen a few people say that they'd prefer the 150 but they didn't really say why. When I get my Xenon back from MS it will probably be an OPUS anyway and the 175W will allow me to use the power supplies interchangeably between the two units.

the 150W are Jasper related. the 175W were used with older versions. It appears likely that there were 175W tagged PSU cases that they are being reused for the 150Ws.

The 150w PSU will be smaller, and might not get as warm due to the new vents. The heat generated by the PSU is really a non-issue though, since it is has nothing to do with the heat that the console generates. Size is the main thing, but the 175w will already seem much smaller to you than the beast that is the 203w PSU.

I can't imagine there would be any difference in performance whatsoever.

As I said before, I agree that you'll see the 256meg on all consoles. I just don't see it being caused by the logistics of having different motherboard layouts (which they wouldn't anyways) or different population options (which they've already done by not installing HDMI connectors on some boards which could have accommodated them).

The consoles NEED storage for system firmware, that's why the 16meg chip was there in the first place. It makes sense now to put the same 256meg chip in all variants to take advantage of economy of scale, and not have to worry about two different parts. That's why all should get 256meg.

Well guys I couldn't resist, after having my other 360s taken apart every few days, I wanted to pop this one open and check it out. Still runs too hot for my liking. Also wanted to be 100% that my motherboard was labelled a Jasper. The rear fans do look a bit different than what I'm used to from my old console. Contemplating whether I want to install extra fans or just leave this one alone.

The size of the 175W is exactly the same as the 203W I have. It weighs slightly less and there are more holes but otherwise physically they appear identical. It doesn't make much if any noise. Heat is not a factor as the brick is in a different area from the console and can breathe freely.

I've booted up the 360 and played around with it (had to do some re-cabling). So far these are my observations: 1) HDMI makes a difference on my set. Colors are richer and there was a tiny bit of noise on the components that is now gone. 2) These new fans are louder than the old ones. It's not bad, but it's a "whiny" sound that I can imagine would grate if you had to sit near it. I noticed triangles on the fans looking through the back. I seem to remember somebody commenting on those somewhere.

Haven't noticed anything heat related yet. I'll check back in later after I've gamed a while.
