It is funny to see all the different configurations of Falcons now. I speculated that the solid capacitors were involded in reliability improvement. Now after seeing so many different types on the newer units, it looks like they were just clearing inventory all the while....heck some poor soul even claimed to get a Zephyr unit with a new mfg date......OUCH!! I'd have to see the pic to believe it though.

***OH yeah, if anyone in the Cincinnati, OH/Northern KY area spots any Jaspers in the BB's....give me a shout. I'm driving my wife crazy!!!!

Thanks bud I've been involved in this industry for quite a while. Not directly any more, but I still have a pretty good idea of how things work. I could very easily have been wrong though. In retrospect, I should have directed focus more towards the power connector than Kill-a-watt measurements, although clearly power consumption was the conservative way to ensure early detection.

(PS - I think the Zephyr was a return or some weird fluke. I highly doubt Microsoft is still sending those out.)

360 Pro

Lot: 842X
Serial Number : yadayadayada84307
Sticker on system: 12.1A

Now, I opened up the box and was dismayed to see the older 175 watt PSU. However, because of this board I know that many early falcons shipped w/ the PSU from the older mobos of the time.

I looked into the power socket on the actual console. Lo and behold, the top potion is not a solid bar - its broken in 2 equal size halves. The same configuration that a 150 watt PSU would fit in.

I believe I have a Jasper with a older PSU !!!! I can't think of any other way to verify - the LOT/Serial Number line up, the Amps on the sticker line up, and the power socket on the console itself lines up.

Oh, under Memory there is NO mention of 256mb - just the HD.

Interesting - maybe I'm wrong afterall on this part.

Yah, I'm festering on this point as well - it made sense to put the memory in all consoles. I was going to turn mine off and take the HD off and restart, but wasn't sure what that would do.

I can honestly say that after playing about 3 hours of COD4, the console is barely warm in the back and the fans are still spinning low.

Give that a try, although I *think* people that had the internal memory still had access to it after adding an HD. I'd be curious to see the inside of a Pro that didn't show the extra memory - I wonder if it would actually have it, but that it was disabled at the factory?

Yes even if you have a harddrive attached you can still select the on board 256mb separately so it shouldn't be hard to tell if you have it or not. Like when you are playing a game and you go to load or save, the screen will pop up asking harddrive or 256 memory.

Just bought 2 arcade units in Orange, CT (BB off US-1) because they were both lot FDOU 843X, both born on 10-23-08. Out of the box they are "12V...14.2A" and with 175 power supplies, but power cords have the "Jasper" look as posted on here. Can someone please tell me where to look for this Jasper sticker, and if you think these are Falcons or not? They came with memory cards too, but like I said, have the Jasper power cord design.

The power connector on the console is as good an indicator as any. I highly doubt there will be any Falcons with the Jasper power connector. It would be a mistake at the factory if it happened.

By Jasper look, I mean the plug that goes into the Xbox - between the sets of prongs looks like: __ __

Come on man you can figure this out...

14.2A
Memory Cards
175W

FALCON

The Jasper sticker is stuck to the motherboard near the rear fans, some people claim they've been able to view it through the vents in the console, I can't confirm that.

Got my Jasper at the Palo Alto, CA Fry's.
I got an arcade with the 60GB drive extra.
It didnt have NXE update installed.

Only one jasper arcade left there.
All the pros and elites were not jasper.

The bay area targets barely had any xboxes
so I wouldnt hold out for that gift card offer.

Take it from me, 10-23-08 with FDOU 843X doesn't mean anything good. I was fooled by the "2" in the 12.A or whatever. Both of mine were 14.A..........something 2. Couldn't see it until I got them home. I guess I was filled with a rush in the store after seeing a pile of 843x 10-23-08's. I think I'm the first person I know of from all the reading that didn't get a Jasper from these 2 stats alone.

WOW Bakselee! I cant figure it out either. I got a 0843x, FDOU, 10-21-08 with a 12.1a--I have yet to open it but I assume its a Jasper. There seems to be no rhyme nor reason. Two days earlier and not one--Makes no sence.

Jasperhunter and Darrell--You guys are very knowledgeble--What do you think?

What makes you think you didn't get a Jasper? Show us a pic of your power connector. If it's really a split bar on top (as some are calling it), then I would bet money it's Jasper. The PSU and current rating could simply be an old label and an old PSU. The same thing happened with Falcon.

Nah, I fucked up in my excitement. The "split bar" is in the middle (between the 2 rows of prongs). The bar on the top is a solid bar. Sorry for trashing this board up with 4 useless posts. All the research I had done told me I was jipped, but I still couldn't believe it after 843X + 10-23-08. No digital cam necessary.

Bakesalee - Out of curiosity, do the labels say "XBOX 360 ARCADE SYSTEM VALUE BUNDLE 2008 E"?

Someone on the old PI board theorized that each manufacturing facility would likely have multiple production lines, and they would have to convert each line over individually to Jasper production.

Not only does that make sense, but I think we are seeing the results of that now with the Falcon/Jasper overlap in lots 842 and 843. It will probably be a few weeks until we can be confident that any lot number is 100% Jasper.

It also makes me wonder which lot included the first Jaspers. They would likely be the minority vs. the Falcons of course. I wouldn't be suprised if we start having sightings of some 841 Jaspers trickle in over the next few weeks.

All of a sudden, the mystery poster that gave us the 841 CSON information is starting to look a little more "connected" than we gave him credit for. We wanted to believe it, but there were so many trolls over there.

I think you hit the nail on the head. I saw a 0842/FDOU/10/11/08 that had 12.1a today!
