Surely you dont mean that some Jaspers have had the RROD they have only been on the market a few weeks?

I BOUGHT A PRO (60GB JASPER) EARLIER TODAY!!!!!!! I have pics!!!!

Got it at Best Buy in Wilmington, Delaware....I showed an employee the 12.1 marking spot I was looking for. I had checked every unit on the floor (no luck), but he found one in the back storeroom that had it, and I immediately bought it....manufacter date was 11/08/08...Best Buy had the $50 Gift Card Promo going on, so I got that too. SO HAPPY!

Congrats! I managed to score a Jasper Pro also today from Best Buy. Same manufacturing date as yours.

Slightly off topic for the thread, but I just got one for xmas, and I was wondering if I should box it all back up and try to go get a Jasper instead.

This is my first foray into the ever so reliable xbox 360.

The newer Falcons are just fine (August-October), people really hype the whole Jasper thing up a LOT. If you get the new Jasper revision that's great, but don't sweat it if you have a Falcon. The only advantage to Jasper is a little less power consumption and slightly less noise. If you recall the RRoD was caused by the GPU actually popping out of place due to crappy contact material between the GPU chip and the 360 motherboard. I have a funny feeling that MS began using a better contact material before Jasper units came out, then again this is purely speculation on my part. Either way you have a 3 year warranty for RRoD so just have fun with it IMO, the choice is yours though in the end.

edit: THIS illustrates what I was talking about.

Yes but less power means less heat which means less of a chance that the GPU "pops" out of place.

Exactly. Components don't just "pop" out for no reason; a primary factor was the motherboard warping due to excessive heat. The GPU was the hottest component in the system, and supposedly a major cause of mobo warping. A number of anecdotal reports have suggested that Jasper system run cooler due to the die-shrunk GPU and thus we can reasonably assume there is less mobo warping, which should hopefully reduce RRoD.

I've read through a lot of pages of this post discussing lot numbers and amp rating. My question is, if I'm looking for an arcade bundle and the manufacture date on the box is after Nov 1, 2008 can it still NOT be a Jasper? I've seen people talk about the late october arcades still being falcon but what about november? I want to buy from gamestop but they will only let me look at the manufacture date then wanted to take the box to the register and make me pay before I can look at the amp rating. I was hoping someone tell me if a post nov 08 date still was not jasper for a arcade bundle.

Its reasonably easy to see the amp rating WITHOUT opening the box, just move the XBox to the side which should give you just enough room to make it out.Dont pay until you know for certain its a Japer.Tell them to stick it up their jacksy if they want you to pay before you know.

Here's something for those of you hunting for an Elite Jasper (I'm looking for one).

I just came back from my local Best Buy and found several Elite consoles with a manufacturing date of 2008-10-31 and still no Jasper; the amp rating was still 14.2A, indicating a Falcon motherboard.

Lot No. was 0843X and Team CS-something, I think it was CSON.

Still hunting.

I bought an xbox 360 Pro. It says 12.1 on the back with a manufacturer date in november but the power supply says 175watts. Should i return it and get a new xbox? i want to be 100% sure its a jasper without opening it up. Im pretty sure its a jasper because of the 12.1 and the 2 bars on the back of the power plug. I think this wed when the best buy near me gets shipments in, if they have a jasper elite ill exchange it, otherwise ill just keep it.
One more question, the new jasper elites, do you think they started making them after the arcades and pros or they started making them the same time they just havent appeared in stores yet bc they arent as bought as often (reason for this is bc if they started making the elites a week later then the chances of it being an old power supply are slim to none).

I just recently bought a Jasper Pro. It's my first 360. I checked the memory and it said that i only had 48.8 gigs on the hard drive. I know that it came with some demo's and trial version games, but wouldn't that only take up a few gigs. Why is it not exactly 60 gigs?

Also, I have had the 360 for about a day now and I just recently started hearing something rattle inside the system. I think its loose whatever it is because it only does it if i shake it. Do you think its the eye on the disc drive?

You have a Jasper. The PSU is a 175 watt version, but that is only b/c MS is working down their inventory of PSUs. Don't sweat it, the console is a Jasper.

I grabbed a jasper arcade and a 60 gig starter kit a few weeks ago. The hard drive only had 48.8 gigs available and there were only about 2.5 gigs of demos and vids. Apparently the 120 gig only has 107 available. It's one of those fine print things that MS doesn't fully disclose. Despite this I?ve installed 4 games and downloaded a bunch of demos/vids and I still have around 16 gigs left to play with. It's no big deal really once you?re done with a game just remove it, 48.8 gigs is more than enough space for me at least.

Oh and definitely don't shake it, if you think there's something wrong with it just return it for a different one before the return policy runs out.

Part of the hard drive space is reserved for caching, system updates, game updates, and other maintenance type storage.

First rule of thumb like the others have said.....don't shake it. Nothing good will ever come from it.

Anyway....NO, there is nothing wrong with your XBOX 360. In the front, by the memory card ports there is a cage that houses a small ball. My speculation is that this is the sensing unit that detects when your XBOX is vertical or horizontal.

All 360's will have that rattle sound......

And you would know this having taken apart many of them. Thanks for clearing that up !!! Any luck on the Falcon / Jasper heat analysis?

Which brings me to today...... as I sit here staring at an open box in my living room....that just arrived from New Egg with the following specs:

Lot#: 845x
Serial: 845xx
Manu Date: 11-2-08
Team: FDOU
Amp: 12.1A
Power Supply: 150W
Box Sticker: XGX-00019, Value Bundle E

The entry above, from currentswillshift, indicates that Model XGX-00019 from newegg, will give you a jasper. An earlier post also metions the same model number XGX-00019 ordered from Dell also gives you a Jasper. Does that mean if I order the same thing from Dell, I'll get a Jasper?

I've been following this forum since the 8bit days... I'm from the Philippines and the only way I'll probably get a Jasper is if I order it from the US. I've checked out the local stores... the latest they have is a lot no. 836, while a big toy store chain here even has units from 2006 (omg). I'm hoping that if I order this from Dell, I'll get a Jasper.

For the guy in Northern Virginia: (or anyone in the DC,MD,VA area)

I got a Jasper Pro from Circuit City in Hyattsville, MD the day after Christmas. They had some other stuff mixed in. I couldnt tell really, just saw different Lot #'s below the 0840's.

I'm glad I just read about the ball by the memory card ports. My first gen 360 I had, I tried my best to figure out if that was the result of a RRoD I had. Then I heard it again with this new system and thought wtf....

Because of the holidays, $$$ has been tough to come by. Getting the wife acceptance certificate for a $35 RC thermal sensor has been tough....but I'm working or her.

Doing the heat comparison is definitely on my short list of projects.....I've been dealing with a rebooting wireless router for about two weeks and that has my attention right now. Getting kicked off XBOX live and Guild Wars from a rebooting router sux!!!!

On a somewhat Jasper relater matter...I almost freaked out last night when my 4-year old was playing lego batman and during the game the xbox FROZE UP....no way to get out of it unless I turned the unit off. Fearing I maybe had done something wrong with my x-clamp removal or a bad GPU I took the game out...cleaned it, and tried it again. The game froze at almost the exact same place in the game!!! So I pulled out the game and popped in assasin's creed. Over an hour later and no freezes....so I'm thinking it must be the disc.

I'm always looking for more xbox live friends....my gamer tag is Daht Kahm

DON'T GIVE UP HOPE JASPER HUNTERS!! Patience and dertimination will prevail!!!
