I challenge you to find a piece of electronics equipment that is as complex as the 360 and not have any failures. The original 360, Xenon, obviously had a failure rate that was wayyy too high and probably all Xenon's will eventually fail from heat / motherboard warping. But, it doesn't seem like the RRoD is a widespread problem on Falcon, and I can only imagine that its even better on Jasper.

The 3 ringed RRoD does not automatically mean the failure is related to the same exact heat / motherboard warping problem that plagued the Xenon 360's. It just means that there is a GPU failure. So its possible you have a bad GPU -- totally within the realm of standard hardware failures. Thats why your purchase comes with a 1-year warranty.

I'm still looking for a Jasper Elite -- looks like we're getting closer! I'd rather have a black 360 Elite Jasper, but I might cave and buy one of the RE5 Elites if its a Jasper.

We are getting close to the black ones, but good lord this is taking some time. I am surprised we are at March 09 and still no widespread sightings. I have also toyed with the idea of jumping onto one of those RE5 bundles. If it had been a different game then it would have been an easy choice, but I was nott keen on the controls for the aiming. The grapics were sweet though.

@peachy001 the 3 year cost me 30 quid. O.K so I left it of for 10 min and switched it back on 3 Rings again, left it off for 2 hours it works fine now. However I'm going to take it back to Game today.

It's weird that a GPU that is reduced by 25nm could get overheated just like that. There must have been a rare manufacturing problem with your box or your indoor temperature is very high.

I believe the Jasper chip is actually 65nm, not 25nm.

Its not the fact of not having failures, but the fact of having abnormally high failure rates.

£30 is pretty good for 3yr cover, I'm impressed. I seriously think that it was pure bad luck. I have seen a few instances of Jasper failure, but the key word there is "few". There does not seem to be a major issue with it and all electrical devices can fail. Yes I am aware that as a brand the 360 has a shoddy reputation, but I feel we have turned a corner with the Jasper. That is what I expect anyway, which is why I intend to snap up the first black Jasper I see. If only I could swap the bundles around then I could have the conbination I require ie Jasper Elite + the Halo bundle. Oh well I can't, so my search continues for the Jasper in the black suit.

O.K so I returned my xbox and the guy was pretty cool, he gave me a new one, another Jasper. I guess to many of my friends play the 360 for me to switch to a PS3. Good luck with your hunting peachy what rank are you on halo 3? I play COD WAW now.

Did you managed to get any LOT numbers for the Elites?
I have not played too much Halo 3. I loved the original Halo and also Halo 2, I played them so much. Not played much Halo 3 though as I have only been able to borrow a 360, and I spent most of my time on COD4. I do intend to get Halo 3 once I get my black Elite, in fact you may have seen my posts about the bundle I intend to get (also from Game). I tried it once or twice online and thought it was OK, but I struggled to adjust to the controls. I have just posted a comment on 8bitjoystick about my need to get back into Halo. Once I get my Elite I intend to do just that. I also want to spend some time on COD5 WAW, had a brief go and thought it was pretty good. Not mastered the weapons on that yet as I have only got one achievement on it. I should be borrowing a 360 again this weekend, I have it for a week hopefully, so I may be able to clock up some more achievements and some online play too. I have a friend that plays Gears 2 a lot, but the guy lending me his console doesn't have it.

So i have ordered a Xbox Elite RE5 bundle here in Dortmund, Germany. Hopefully i get mine before Friday the 13th. I will tell you if it is really a Jasper. It's quite hard to get one in Germany because it is limited to 2000 Units and you can't buy it at Amazon. Only Gamestop has the bundle.

RUMOR: Microsoft to axe Xbox 360 Elite Edition

If this is true, it will explain why stores (specifically the 3 local Best Buy stores I frequent) are not re-stocking Elites.

This is making me think in buying the red RE5 limited edition console.

Hey all. I've been on the hunt for a while now. I was following the "thread" before this one was made at the beginning. I just recently put money down to pre-order the RE5 Elite. I am hoping this wouldnt be the end of elites as we know it, but this also tempts me to buy more than one and sell them.

Regardless, I am ecstatic to know that, allegedly -according to Major Nelson, the RE5's are Jaspers. This is the whole reason I have waited so long. Wanted an Xbox-knew the failure rate/RRoD - wanted an Elite - heard about jaspers -> YAY!

I have seen that rumour about phasing Elites out at a few places too. Man I'm peeved. Did I shoot Bambi in a former life, is someone else in the world enjoying massive good fortune to compensate for this happening to me? This is bloody typical, they will probably phase the Elite out before I get one. It may also explain why my local Game store is discounting Elites. But, hang on, the discounting is a limited offer and stops this coming thursday (the day before RE special ed). So when the price rises again surely they will sell less. The articles I have read say that the phase out is expected to happen 2nd quarter, so I may still have chance to get one. That is provided they have produced some Jasper Elites.

I am not alone in my hunt, there are others out there, little pockets of resistance scattered across the globe, all hunting for the black Jasper. That is one of the reason the Elite sales may have slowed.

I may have to get the RE5 bundle, but I don't want the game which means I will have to trade it in. Probably won't get much for it either. Bummer.

Huh??? you want an "elite", but you have no problem in getting the RE bundle (except that you don't want the game), so you obviously don't care if it's black or not... so.. what exactly is your problem then??

I don't understand why several people here are obsessed/worried/angry about the elite thing, when they think of just going out ang getting the RE bundle... I mean, I am out looking to find one, but because I want the console to be black and no other model comes in that color... But if you don't care about that, why don't you just buy an arcade (pretty much all of them are jaspers now), and buy separately the 120GB hard disk if that's what you care about, and you have an elite for $50 less... I don't see the problem here... (unles you absolutely must have a black console like I want).

I actually really do want a black one, I much prefer the colour to the new red SE. I also want the bundle that goes with the black Elite (Halo + extra controller + Kung Fu Panda + Lego Indiana Jones). The bundle is actually £4 cheaper than the SE red one, and as you can see, it has more games and an extra controller. For that reason I really want the black one. The problem I have is that the black bundle is available at £225 only until next thursday (12/3/09) after which it will return to the higher price of £259. It annoys me because I can guarantee a Jasper, but it would have to be red and the bundle offers far fewer items than the bigger (and currently cheaper) black Elite Halo bundle.

Going the Arcade + 120GB HDD is not an option as that works out even more expensive than the £259 that the black bundle will revert to.

The above reasons show why I am considering the red one, but it is only based on the inrease in price on the black ones and the fact that I would need to trade in the game for something else. The fact I can't get the extra items is also telling me to wait for the black Jaspers.

I hope MS don't announce at e3 that they will discontinue the Elite and release a new re-designed super sleek, mega good looking,glossy Xbox 360 Elite Deluxe system with 200gb hard drive, built-in wi-fi and with super quiet fans/DVD-drive... man I'm gonna be so pissed when I'm stuck with a ugly red, noisy, "reliable" Jasper (not so "elite") elite system.

Well I will be jumping on the 360 bandwagon long before E3 (June), so I can't really worry too much about that. So bummed out by the wait, especially as there has been a 2 week price cut on the Elites at my chosen store. I even have some store credit, and it is burning a hole in my pocket. I would like to get to the bottom of the reason for the slight price cut. It could be any number of reasons eg
> overstocked warehouse and they have not sold as many as they expected
> linked to Jasper and they are trying to clear out the Falcons
> they are aware they are to be discontinued and need to shift them
> they expect the red one to sell loads, but for customers that don't make the list, they have another highly desireable option
> too many Jasper hunters are holding off on the purchase until they see them in the wild
> there is a big bit of news coming at E3 (although it seems a little early for that)
> the PS3 is gonna cut the price so MS want to test the water on an Elite cut
> or it could just be none or even a combination of the above thoughts

Anyone have any other thoughts?

I have visited a number of Game stores in my hunt, just returned from the ones at Meadowhell in Sheffield. The bad news is that they are only up to LOT 829 and 830, so no Jasper Elites there. I have also tried a store in Scotland and another one in South Yorkshire, none were anywhere close to where I need them to be. The best LOT numbers I have come across are a load of 846x Elites at a load of Asda stores that I tried. Sadly those are not Jasper either, I have checked tons of them. I have a feeling it might be cheaper for me to just drive to China and pick one up from the factory.

When I spoke to some of the people in the shops they have suggested that the limited edition price will increase (I think they are wrong). Annoyingly I used to have a good contact at Game and Gamestion but I lost touch, so I have not been able to get any insider knowledge.

If anyone else has any better luck can they please either post here or send me a private message over Live (gamertag is the same as my login here (the are zeros not Os at the end of my tag). Many thanks to those that have already sent me some information.
